Despite their heavy appearance, a Hypofly's bones are hollow to permit rapid flight. They feed on flora that grow near large sources of water, as their skin must always remain moist. After bathing in large lakes, they will fly to nearby flowerbeds; the resulting water that falls from their bodies dampens the soil and aids in the further growth of the flora. They are highly vocal and in large groups, can reach high, cacophonous pitches that resound for a mile.
