These aquatic, saltwater reptiles undergo long migrations between feeding grounds and mating territories. Lohlanis prey on swarms of jellyfish. They return to the same beaches where they hatched to lay their own eggs during breeding season. They are highly endangered because of overfishing. Sailors traversing the ocean alongside these reptiles commonly call them ‘sea seraphs’ because of their winged appearance and their willingness to aid those whose ships have either gone astray or sunk.
