[* Breeding Reform! [May 4]

Postby Jaykobell » 12/01/2014 7:53 PM

~*~

It was recently brought to our attention in Toxic's Evelon activity topic that breeding is one of the biggest — if not the biggest — features here on Evelon. And how can we blame you guys for thinking that? We do already have 5 breedable species, with one of them having been freshly revamped just earlier this year.

The problem was that our breeding system was limited. If you couldn't be online for a Key release, or if you had no luck for the raffle, you were basically always scraping by the bottom of the barrel to try to breed. And if you couldn't tag along with someone who had a key, then you were with no opportunity. It was only a specific clique of members who usually had keys on hand, and over time, the mentality that breeding keys were a rarity became the norm. People bred less and less, and even worse, they refused to share. Why share when you couldn't tell when the next key release was going to be?

Not only that, but many users were nervous about the 2-week breeding limit, considering we're all grown up now, with our own lives, responsibilities, jobs, and school. If something unexpected happened, it became a problem to complete a breeding. Would you have enough times?

After discussing it with the staff and the community, we decided to bring to you a brand new breeding reform!

Please check the following topics for everything you need to know!
Breeding Rules
Breeding Records
Breeding FAQ

In a very, very brief nutshell, the changes are as follows:

- Main breeding is ruled by slots, three (3) slots per USER;
- Each slot is separated into three categories: initiative (pays fee), participation (does not pay fee), and variable (can or cannot be fee, as necessary)
- No more time limit! The minimum is now one (1) week BETWEEN POSTS; failure to post between one week of each other will result in you failing the room;
- Species are no longer bond to anything! Wanna breed Kuhnas? Start a room. Wanna breed Soveri? Start a room. As long as you have a breeding slot, the species (rental or otherwise) and the KS/potions you need, you can breed!
- Think you can handle three breedings at once? Go ahead. But mind you, we won't be more lenient with you if you can't meet the one week between posts time limit between all three rooms. Make sure you can make it and see your rooms to completion!

The topics should be telling you everything you need to know, but if you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Also, let me put it very clearly right here:

We reserve the right, at ANY GIVEN TIME, to CLOSE DOWN BREEDING if the backlog becomes too much.

We also reserve the right to CHANGE THE RULES if things are being abused, or if something just isn't working in practice.

If we have to resort to either of the above, I do NOT want to hear any complaints. This system is currently in its beta stages, and if changes need to be made, then they will be made. Of course, we're crossing our fingers that the system will go smoothly, but we never know. Everything can change, in order to hopefully make it as smooth as possible.

With that said, I also heard the Mage's Brewery might be having a restock at some point, to celebrate the new system... Hmm... I'd keep my eyes peeled for that, guys. When will it happen? It'd ruin the surprise if I told you, now, wouldn't it?

Here you go, guys. You really wanted this system, from what we could tell, and the team also thought it was a good idea to finally give breeding more freedom while also giving us Mods a chance to breathe at the same time.

I'm very excited to release this! So please, if you have ANY QUESTIONS, ask them here! Or PM us! Or ask in the Help section! We will answer them!

Enjoy breeding! But don't overdo it... I'm watching all of you. Closely. And I know where you live don't you dare try me

Happy Holidays, guys! Consider it a little gift from me, and the staff, to you all.

*screams with pure joy* I have one question though, is my current kuhna key useless, or can it still be used without me paying a fee?

You can find the answer in the FAQ~

Keys remain as part of the system, for use whenever. They are separate from the slots and can be used even if you've used all of yours for the month. They are not lost, and you can even still trade/sell/swap them as before.

This is absolutely awesome. If this ends up working out and remains a permanent part of the breeding system, I'll no longer have any need to hoard breeding keys for pairings that I'm not ready to breed yet because I haven't finished the plot roleplays that come before the breedings xD

Plus, I'll actually be looking forward to breeding with other people, and not just self-breedings all the time. Holy crap.

Ahhhh really happy to see all that discussion lead somewhere ;w; I hope this system is successful; it seems to solve a lot of problems that people had in the past.

-sends many hearts-

So many things! Can't wait to get going on shenanigans; hopefully it doesn't get too bad that you'd have to close stuff. The time removal is great for me right now, too, since my computer's on the fritz, leaving me with only my phone.

Go forth, my people, and breed.

~**~

Just a small announcement guys, something you already know and I just want to rehash. Remember that you have a 7 day period to reply to your breeding rooms, once those 7 days go by without you posting, we will lock your room and fail your breeding. So if you go to reply and your room has been locked or has been moved, odds are you took too long to reply and now we've moved it away.
How do we work this out? We look at the individual time stamps between each post, and we urge you guys to do the same. So if you posted at 12:22pm, then your partner would need to reply before 12:22pm the following week.

There seems to be a bit of confusion regarding this recently, so I just thought a bit of a reminder would help give some clarity on what's been going on.
Thankies~

Are you scared? Are you free?
I can be fair or a monster
Tell me now, which one do you need?

I can feel eyes staring at me
Getting uneasy, ready to feed
I can feel teeth

~*~

Hey there, guys.

So, I bring you all a little reminder on the breeding reform. I see that all of you, new and established members alike, have all been enjoying the new breeding system a lot. We have some tweaks planned starting with the month of May, but for now, there's just a few points I'd really like to emphasize.

Let me just say outright that the staff absolutely understands the concept of having a life outside of Evelon. We understand that some of you are going through college, through your job, through your life, through your relationships; we understand that, at times, Evelon takes a backseat. We do understand; almost everyone in the staff team has their time here restricted by school, family, RL in general, work, and other equally adult things that we need to do.

That being said, Evelon does have its rules, and that's mandatory if we don't want the systems and games we have in place to fall apart.

We modified the breeding system so that people could have a lot more freedom with their breedings, most notably by implementing the "post once every week" system that allows breedings to be managed and handled in a much slower fashion than before. It helps members deal with the unexpected, and it helps the staff with the backlog.

Thing is, ever since we changed the system... You guys have been failing rooms more than ever before. Not only that, but many of you PMd the staff about issues after your room had failed.

Again, we understand that sometimes, life will unexpectedly take control. Some things can't be avoided (loss of internet, death, sudden/unfortunate injury, etc.), and we understand that. However, some things can be avoided or worked around, and typically, in case of the bigger cases, you can afford to notify the staff prior to them happening (homework, trips, planned medical interventions, etc.).

Guys, we ask that, if you have the smallest doubt you might be failing your room: PM the staff BEFORE it actually happens!

By starting your room and planning your breeding, you're still acknowledging that there's a certain level of commitment that you need to put forth. Try to plan ahead, and see if you can comfortably complete your room(s).

When members do not warn us, we do check the rooms, and we do move them once they've failed. Getting PMd after the fact means all three of us (Kyrit, Kreepy, and myself) have to sit down and decide if the reason(s) are valid enough to pull the room back up.

If you can warn us ahead of time, it would make everyone's life a lot easier. Even if you don't need it, even if you don't end up failing; doesn't matter! At least we knew what was happening. If you're PMing us to say a family member died and you might need an extension, we'll understand.

But we will start being stricter, because we have never received more requests for extensions and more PMs asking for rooms to be pulled back up, than ever before since the reform was implemented. We deliberate on a variety of factor for pulling rooms back up or not, mostly if the reason(s) given are valid enough.

In relation to Kreepy's update above mine here; guys, remember that, although you have one week to post between replies: if you fail because you procrastinated and waited until the last minute to post, it still counts as a failure. Some rooms were labeled 'done' even though there were posts that were made after the deadline. We do check the rooms, and we do check the timestamps. Even if you end up finishing your room, if you did not have 25 posts at the time: the room was a failure. We've noticed that some rooms tend to be salvaged at the very last moment, and we will start being stricter in terms of extensions.

I hope you guys can understand where we're coming from, and I hope this is understandable. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to let us know.

Hey there, guys.

Some suggestions were recently brought up in terms of the breeding system.

Please refer to our rules on breeding to see the new changes, but in a nutshell:

- Slots are no longer separated between initiator/participant/variable; each user now has three (3) slots a month that can be used as they see fit;
- Self-breedings do still take two (2) slots; this is because you are taking up the space of two breeders instead of one;
- Room prices have been rounded down to 80 for Kuhnas and 120 for Lucain, Paragon and Soveris, for easy and even splittings of rooms between partners!

That's about it.

Also, in terms of the Nursery; the team agreed that babies can (and will) remain in the Nursery until they have grown. That way, splitting can happen once both parties have seen the grown babies and there doesn't need to be members sending out codes between each other.

If you were the only breeder, though, feel free to message us and we can send you your litter right away; no one else but you will get it anyway!

Note that this is effective as of May 2015.

For those of you who have already started breeding for May and who listed slots; there's no need to worry. Your rooms are still valid and just fine! And we will deduct with the new fees for all May rooms; the system should've been out FOR May 1, but I was out of town! Whoops.

Anyhow, that's it for now. Any questions, you know the drill; feel free to ask!

With the update, would we have to specify in our initial breeding posts who is paying what amount for the room? I know it's possible to split the cost evenly now, but some people opt to contribute their part in potions instead of KS, or if they can't split evenly they might let the person who paid more have more babies, etc. Or is the KS automatically deducted from a particular person's account (the person who posts first, for instance)? I don't think I saw anything about this in the updated rules, so I figured it would be good to ask here.

It's still all subtracted from one person. If you'd like to specify who's the one paying, just write a little note in the first post where you used to write initiator/participant, etc so I know. Otherwise, for now I'll just assume the first person who posted is the one the KS is coming from. With that in mind, fee splits work the same as they have in the past, with one person transferring KS to another.

Whoops, that's a super good point, Thunder.

What crow said is right, though! We're still subtracting from one single person, but splitting is, of course, still allowed. But I'll stick a little note in the rules to say that you should specify who's paying; and that otherwise, crow will subtract from the first poster. 。◕‿◕。
