Poll time!

I've been puttering away on an idea for a while and I've hit a few snags that I'd like to get some feedback on! I think, pet collecting has been a big part of this site (I'm guilty of this too aha) and we'd like to reward users for that!

So I've been drawing up a rewards/achievement system, where the idea is, y'all collect a set (eg, Collect All Four Species of wild Hunter or, Collect all the 2018 Easter Seasonals!) and turn them in but I've had a bit of trouble working out what happens when you turn them in. So, if it's okay, I've got a poll up here with my two options. As a note, the prizes won't change, just the frequency will! Some will be new, unique or hard to obtain elsewhere!

However, if you have a suggestion/better option or even just an opinion, feel free to leave a comment below! It's much appreciated <3

Option A - Your pets are permanently deleted, however several alternative ways to obtain these pets will be available and the prizes will be much more substantial.

Option B - You keep the pets, prizes won't be as big/rewarding and there won't be as many. In this case, we'll be using the pet's ID number as a way to keep track, and turn them on so you can keep track too!

Option C - A choice is offered, you can keep your pets for a base prize, or turn them in for a bigger one! There'll be slightly more methods to obtain past event's pets. You cannot upgrade at a later date, as of this moment.

The part of me that likes big prizes wants option A, but on the other hand the part that likes collecting pets to keep characters for them wants option B, so I won't vote for now. However, I will note that maybe if we go with option A it could become a part of the Salvage Saloon?

As much as I don't want to spoil surprises, KS and even GT will be rewarded for completing and/or partially completing sets in Option A. Just to make the sacrifice feel worth it. It's unlikely Option B will reward for partial sets as well. But since these are a one time only thing and we will need to be keeping dedicated records, we'll be keeping the Salvage Saloon around and probably separate!

That being said with Option A, there will also be much more opportunities to get older pets, whether you want to redeem them for prizes or even just get something you've been wanting for a while, that's up to you!

We do understand you might have sentimental value towards specific pets though, which is why we're offering up a choice!

As a hoarder who actually tries to use most of her hoard, I'd prefer not to lose my pets for the sake of claiming collection. Besides, I think option A might cause an issue with any collection that requires uber rare pets?

Tentatively floating a third option, I haven't had the nay or yay from the mod chat yet so I won't add it to the poll but I would like to see thoughts! But I was considering larger sets (say, The Craiss Caverns Set instead of the 'All Wild Akail Set', though things like 'Christmas 2018' would remain the same), and giving you the option of either keeping the set for the base reward, or releasing the set for a larger reward/potentially exclusive reward?

but @ the rare pets thing, as mentioned, Option A includes more chances to get unobtainable and rarer pets.

It might seem like I'm pushing for Option A, and while I think it's a generally good thing for our economy (selling/buying pets has always been a bit slow imo) I'm really just trying to clear misconceptions! I think either option will benefit the economy and might help get activity either way.

That sounds like it could work. Part of why I'm kind of reluctant is because of the wild pets specifically, I think-a lot of the time there's a specific narrative associated with finding them, so they feel less "disposable" in my opinion. Although now that I'm thinking about it, with option B how will you stop people from trading pets to each other freely to all get sets?

Each pet you own has an individual ID number! I currently use it for diagnosing bugs and chasing up missing pets. It's hidden right now but all it would take on my end is to turn it on so it displays in your inventory and then we record if the number's been used or not.

Makes sense, though-would it be possible to also mark the pet itself in the inventory in some way? Especially for users that have a lot of one pet, so they could make sure they weren't accidentally trading an already-turned in pet to someone else who wants to complete a collection.

I'm definitely in favor of the "por que no los dos" situation--letting people either exchange the pets for a bigger reward, or keep them if they want to use them. There are definitely sets I have where I wouldn't mind exchanging all the pets, since I wouldn't use them, but there are also ones where I'm really attached to some of the members. And more options is always good!

Added the third option! Apparently it ate the poll, so you'll have to vote again!
So for some context, 'extra options to gain pets' will include more chances to get them around their season, either from hunts or outright buying depending on the year. We're also looking at implementing weaker & stronger versions of the Halloween's Amulet, Spring Tulip and Plastic Candycane items, with the weaker item being more commonly available, probably through hunting or as an event prize.

I've had these visible in RE's inventory for months lmao, but this is an example of one, the Broken Halloween Amulet.

As for differences in prizes, the base prize may look like this. Items being censored bc I wouldn't want to spoil it. Please note, prizes are undecided at this point and this may not reflect future decisions.

The value difference is only minor and you'd only be giving up a cosmetic item in this case. However, in other cases, the difference may be an item or a more currency.

Simply, no. That will be something you have to keep track of yourself, as the trade off. We'll keep the list public for easy access but that requires too much time that I'd rather dedicate elsewhere.
