Re: * New Traits

Postby Jaykobell » 06/13/2011 9:03 AM

You guys do know that you don't have to use the Racial Traits, right? You can take them out as you see fit. So if you want to up your challenge or whatever, you can get rid of Spiked Body on your Lucain.

Spiked Body is probably there because a Lucain could use the wingblades defensively. When the enemy is attacking, the Cain could just turn around quickly and get the enemy to impale themselves on the blades.
Not to mention, Kodai can't start considering Traits in consideration with every single character. "Oh well what if someone's character doesn't HAVE the blades? GUESS IT CAN'T BE STANDARD CAUSE OF ONE PERSON EH."
I'd also like to add the Lucain have wingblades on their elbows and ankles. And I know some Lucain don't have the wingblades, like Moofie's Cinder and Megan's white angel Cain.

Just take it out. Kodai makes the Traits in relation to the species, not in function of characters. That's why some pets have Shrine Traits taked to them. That's also why you can not use certain Racial Traits, like what Kodai did with her Hollowheart; she took out a Flying Trait because Kaibutsu can't fly. But because hers can't fly doesn't mean the others can't fly either. So as a standard, Hollowhearts have a flying Trait.

As far as she's told me, the whole Shieba x Freezair debate hasn't helped her much at all. I think it might be better to privately PM her from now on if you have suggestions concerning the Traits or the system. If she feels like this should warrant a change, she will post a poll, and then people can debate and argue and whatnot. Until then, this topic is for New Traits. So if you have anything else you want to speak in detail to her, I'd suggest taking it to her PMs. If you'd like a topic to actually talk about all those Trait things, you're free to make a Member's Suggestion topic in the subforum, where you can talk about any issue(s) you come across.

Re: * New Traits

Postby Kodai » 06/14/2011 12:56 PM

Ummmmm okay let's see.

@Tiered Traits: I think I'm just gonna have to say no to this (for now, at least), if only because it would be a much more major change than I anticipated and I don't want to make any more major changes right now because that would make everyone very very sad. P=; Maybe someday in the future when a nice, shiny new way of doing stats and battles and Traits is thought up, we can use that idea, but as things are now, I don't think it's feasible.

@Alignments: I will try to work on this and get back to you on it. o Po

@Racial Restricted/Shrine: I am totally willing to look through them all and see what could be dropped/changed. Just don't think that all of them will be.
Shrewdie is right, in that you can 'not use' a Racial Trait if it doesn't fit your character (Passive or Battle). She already used Kai as an example, so... there you go. P= The Racial Traits are indeed meant to represent the basic species – if your pet differs from the species norm, then you're free to take out those Traits.

I just want to say that, while it is nice to see people have an opinion on what I do... it doesn't help when there are only two people voicing two sides of a debate. P=; That causes me to get stuck in the middle, and since no one else says anything, I don't have a good idea if these are just personal concerns or if other people share these concerns and thus there's an actual problem.
Anyway, I'm not going to tell anyone off for having a discussion in here, since I am the one that allowed it, but I'll say that if a topic is raised that sparks a huge debate, please move the actual debating to the regular Suggestion area. o 3o

I think we should probably restrict the new Elemental Absorption traits or tweak them. As it stands now, strategically there would be no reason to pick the "halve elemental damage" traits if the Absoprtion traits reduce elemental damage to zero.

Thunder, the Half-Damage Traits are there to pick for personality reasons. I have four pets with Half-Damage Traits, but none with absorption. I think Kodai wanted to keep them unrestricted and only had them heal 1/4 HP because of that. I also don't think we should restrict them. They're the only thing which makes area elemental attacks useable in double battles right now and we don't need more stuff making the AEA even more unuseable.

Aaaand actual trait suggestions GO!

Amnesiac (Retrograde) - Physical - This creature is missing memories of its past.

Amnesiac (Anterograde) - Physical - This creature has difficulty forming new memories.
Implemented - Amnesiac (There is only one Trait, as it could easily be qualified as either (Retrograde) or (Anterograde).)

I figure it'd probably be a good idea to group them together, which is why I used parenthesis instead of calling them "Retrograde Amnesiac" and "Anterograde Amnesiac." I figure the first one is likely to see more usage as a trait than the second one, since retrograde amnesia is a more common plot device, but since the latter does occassionally crop up in media (50 First Dates, Mushi-shi, and kinda-sorta in Finding Nemo), it's probably good to have around.

I'm so cool (too bad I'm a loser).
I'm so smart (too bad I can't get anything figured out)!
I'm so brave (too bad I'm a baby).
I'm so fly
That's probably why it feels just like I'm falling for the first time!

I'm so green (it's really amazing).
I'm so clean (too bad I can't get all the dirt off of me)!
I'm so sane (It's driving me crazy)!
It's so strange
I can't believe I'm falling for the first time!

@Alignments: I think what I'm gonna do for this is just make Personality Traits in the vein of Pure Soul/Feigned Innocence, since I think that'll be the easiest thing to do. o ^o

@Racial Restricted/Shrine: Okay. There are a lot of pets with them, yes, but a lot of them also make sense (for example, Scorpinch with Virulent Poison, Corpse Kuhna with Diehard and Resist Death, Terratops with Crush and Stubborn Ferocity). Now, I don't think there's much sense in taking Restricted Traits away if they fit the species. I don't want people going to the Restricted Trait Request thread and requesting Traits "because it's in the pet description". :| That said, I'm not against removing Shrine Traits, although if I did that, I'd consider giving the pets that currently have those Traits some sort of 'bonus' towards earning those Traits in the future (for example, decreasing the stat requirements for them).

Re: * New Traits

Trait idea because we have so many demons and angels and godly beings~ Hard to say if I would restrict this. Would probably depend on the percental chance. It does take up a valueable slot, after all. I dunno if 15% chance is even possible or if it has to be 10% or 20%. I wouldn't restrict it with 10%, but for 20%, I would.

Powerful Aura - Battle (Automatic) - The pet is radiating a strong aura that deters opponents from attacking by impressing them, striking fear into their hearts or calming them down (depending on if the aura is light, dark or something else). The opponent has a 15%(?) chance to be unable to attack for each turn during the whole fight.

Got an idea for element reflecting traits. Here's an example:

(Automatic)
Mirror
Prerequisites: There are no prerequisites for this Trait.
Effect: When the user is about to take Light damage, the damage amount is reduced to 0. In addition, the user reflects the attack back at the attacker, doing damage equal to 1/4 the amount of damage that would have been dealt (rounded down).
This effect does not stack with Shining Aura; if the user has both Traits, Mirror's effect is used. The user cannot have both Mirror and Sparkling Radiance.
Damage Roll: There is no damage roll made for this Trait.
Attack As Well: This does not apply to this Trait.
Elemental Resistances: Elemental resistances (including resistances given by Traits) and weaknesses apply.

Tease - Personality - This pet likes to tease others, either just for good fun or because it enjoys being mean.
(This is totally different from Prankster, really.)
Implemented - Mischievous (I shoved the old Prankster into it, too. I like having one Trait cover multiple ideas if I think it can be done.)

Bi-racial Blood/Heritage - Physical - This pet has also genes of a different race than its predominant one in its body.
(We have a lot of pets who are tortured experiments or are simply born from two different races or other things. Yeah, we have the demons and angels and gods and spirits covered, but I think a "neutral" trait for all other instances is really needed.)
Implemented - Multi-Racial Blood/Multi-Racial Heritage

Summoner - Magic - This pet can summon magical creatures, either from another plane or out of the elements.
Implemented - Summoner

Artifact User - Magic - This pet uses magical objects to cast magic, either because it can't do so on its own or to increase its spell variety
Implemented - Artifact User

Weapon Expert - Physical - This pet knows how to use either just a single weapon with great expertise or it is an expert with many weapons.
(Since we can specify traits closer, this can be used in many ways o3o)
Implemented - Weapon Expert

Trauma - Personality - Some horrible event in the past has traumatized this pet deeply, affecting it to this day.
Implemented - Traumatized

Rebellious - Personality - This pet, while not outright violent, reacts strongly if its believes and morals are questioned.
Implemented - Opinionated

Sadistic - Personality - This pet gets pleasure out of hurting others.
Malevolent already fits this.

Masochistic - Personality - This pet enjoys feeling pain.
Implemented - Masochistic

Sheba, I don't think the trait you call Rebellious has the best name.  "Rebellious" refers to beings resistant or a challenge to authority.  I think a better name for that trait would be Opinionated.

Protector - Social - This creature guards or watches over another being.
Edited the definition for Defender.
__________

I'm not sure if "Defender" qualifies for that... o.o I saw "Protected" but not "Protector" and thought it was kinda strange. "Defender" is described as defending an area, and it seems to be different than someone who's a "Protector" but, again, I don't know if they could just be used as one-and-the-same. Protector, though, just seems to say that it has a more powerful connection with another being, I guess.

Look into my eyes you'll see

Look into my eyes you'll see
The weight on my soul

Where the fallen angels sleep
The crooked hearts and the crossroads meet

Where the haters say my name
And carve it in stone

I'm gonna make a comeback
I'm gonna dig six feet up tonight

I'm gonna get it all back
I'm gonna make a comeback this time

I always used Defender for that - I have a lot of bodyguards o3o - and since we can specify in brackets, added that they're protecting a person.

Gale Force- AP//Air- This creature releases a sudden burst of air at his foe(Pet has a 25% chance to do double damage for all air attacks)

-----------------------------------------------------
This is my first trait I made, I made this because a-lot of people seem to have pets with air attacks, yet there is not a large selection of them compared to Acid or Earth.

Re: * New Traits

Postby MillietheWarrior » 01/14/2012 10:46 PM

So…many…pages…Just throwing out some things. They may have been suggested before but…again, so many pages. XD

Righteous Advocate - Personality - This pet will defend and uphold justice and make sure that no creature is found guilty of a crime they did not commit.
Implemented - Justice for All

Preach to the Choir - Social - This pet believes strongly in the Holy Triumvirate and will preach to others about them.
Triumvirate Believer (Preacher) could be used for this.

Aimless Prophet - Social - This pet travels the lands and tries to convert it’s beliefs to anyone who will accept it.
Religious Believer (Wandering Prophet) could be used for this.

Holy Quest - Personality- This pet is on a lifelong quest for it’s own gain, beliefs, or for others and cannot be turned away no matter what.
Implemented - The Quest

Check Mate - Personality/Magic - This pet will use others as pawns in their own schemes and as a means to an end, whether they are evil or not, but cannot physically interfere with their pawn. They must use other means to get what they want.

Will of the Defender - Personality/Magic - This pet will do all in it’s power to stop any pet with a ‘Check Mate’ trait from using others by saving them from their fate any way possible.  They also cannot physically interefere with their pawns and must use other means to stop Check Mate.
Before I touch these two: is the Defender using pawns, as well? I'm a bit confused.

Natural Talent - Magic - This pet is naturally gifted in the use of magic.
Implemented - Naturally Magical

Apprentice of the Mage - Magic - This pet is amazingly gifted in magic and growing stronger in it’s use every day.
Spellcaster (Apprentice) can be used for this.

Magic of the Ages - Magic - This pet is a master of magic use and can be rivaled by few.
Spellcaster (Master) can be used for this.

Bonded faithful - Personality- This pet will never betray a life mate and will remain bonded to them even in death. This pet will also be granted special abilities where their bonded are concerned, such as telepathy and the ability to feel distance and emotions.
I won't make this a Trait, but I will make another one that you could pair with Spiritbond for the 'magical' effect.

Spirit of Nature - Magic - This pet is magically bonded with nature, and thus, will be very in tune to the world around it, including all flora and fauna in their area or home. They can feel emotions, feelings, and other thigns from their surroundings and can mentally  or physically communicate with whatever they so choose, if they so choose.
Implemented - Friend of Nature

Ancient Blood - Magic - This pet has been around since the time of the ancients and has seen the world’s beginning. (I still think this one could be restricted)
Implemented - Ancient One

Restless Soul - Personality - This pet is unable to stay still, and cannot easily be tied down by relationships, and is unable to form close bonds with others.
I'm not quite sure what to do with this. Being unable to form relationships could be due to something like the Wanderlust Trait, or it could be from having some sort of personality disorder (autism, sociopathy)...

Malady Maker - Magic- This pet makes others around it sick in some way, shape or form, whether by sight, smell, scent, or some type of magic or chemical ability. The diseases can be controlled by the user, including type, intensity, infection, and fatality.
Still thinking about this 8|;

Frozen Fingers - Physical - This pet cannot physically touch others without freezing their skin/fur/etc.
Freezing Touch could be used for this.

Hard-headed - Personality - This pet is unnaturally stubborn.
Implemented - Hard-Headed

Dog Soldier - Personality- This pet is the ideal soldier in every way and will never disobey orders.
I'm not going to make this a Trait, but I will make something for this that could be used in conjunction with Soldier to get the effect you want.

I love adventurous tales like that. That uplifting feeling that comes from seeing unknown lands and the knowledge that you came across—nothing can replace it! It opens a path from which self-confidence, experience, and important friendships—from the sharing of life or death situations—are born! But hearing it just isn’t the same. I want to create my own magnificent story!

A great adventure!

Re: * New Traits

Postby Shieba » 01/15/2012 12:34 AM

Wow, Millie, that's a lot, but we do already have a lot of those Traits! Just check the master list? Also, no passive Traits get restricted, that's just for battle Traits and also, Traits don't go into two categories because the list just doesn't work that way and it would lead to double entries.

- We already have "Triumvirate Believer" for pets believing in that religion. Your ideas are more specified than that, but remember that we are encouraged to specify things with brackets - so you would write "Triumvirate Believer (Prophet)", for example. I think anything more specified in the list would clutter it too much. It's already so long!

- We already have "Possessor" for the magical component you seem to imply with "Check Mate". I do agree strongly that we need a "manipulator" Trait, though. The Defender Trait you suggested in pair with that falls under the "Defender" Trait we already have again, you would just specify it more if you feel the need to limit the defending to doing so against a special person/group.

- There are no prerequisites with passive Traits. If you check the master list, you can see that three types of time travel powerlevels are available. Why we have that only for time travel, I don't know - I don't really like levels of anything, they clutter the list. A general powerlevel like yours might be good, though. Though we DO have "Spellcaster" already to indicate great magical power.

- "Spirit of Nature" is already done, we have different kinds of heritages and blood for fae creatures, creatures who are spirits of stones and plants, those with elemental blood...

- "Restless Soul" equals "Wanderlust".

- "Frozen Fingers" equals "Diseased Touch". "Malady Maker" kinda falls under this, too, you would probably either specify "Diseased Touch" further or pick the appropriate magical Trait or social one to indicate alchemists or whatever and specify those then.
