Re: * New Traits

Not really a new trait suggestion, but rather a possible amendment to a description for Neutralize Elements.

"Beginning on the next turn (i.e. the next post, not the post in which this attack was issued), all attack-like Elemental Traits may not be used by any combatant. That is, any Elemental Trait that either replaces your attack or adds on to your attack's damage may not be used."

I...don't think I know of any Elemental Trait that adds onto an attack's damage, unless you mean stuff like "partner with a pet of x Element and have all your stats boosted", ex. Tornado. The only other thing I could think of was moves like Miasma that lower your foe's stats, but those are already covered by "replaces your attack". What is this intended to mean?

I noticed that although we have mechanic (machines), technician (technology) and textile worker (fabrics etc.), we don't have a trait for pets who create other things (pottery, or furniture). I therefore suggest:

Craftsman - Social - This pet fashions items to be used or sold.

Parentheses would be used for qualifiers (carpenter, jewellery maker etc.)

Edit: Species Trait suggestion - The Sailfin paragon description states "They also possess thick blood which helps them heal faster should they lose a limb or two." I therefore suggest the Trait "Speedy Healer" be added to the Sailfin's species traits.

Re: * New Traits

Postby Thunder » 12/31/2012 12:12 AM

Not sure if anyone else wants to make input on this, but I talked with Kodai about this in the IRC; I think we should have traits that would solely benefit slower pets. As it stands, you basically always have the advantage if you move first. It's never good to be the slower one in a fight, and I would like to see some traits that will help the slower pets out.

Some examples. If I think of more I'll post them.

Accelerate- Battle//AP//Restricted: If this pet would normally move second (or anything other than first) in a battle, it can give itself a temporary speed boost to move first for 3 turns, even if other foes have Guerrilla Fighter or First Initiative. 7 AP to start?

Counter- Battle//Dependent: If this pet moves second (or anything other than first) in a battle and takes damage from a non-elemental attack, it reflects ? damage back at the attacker.

These aren't related to the idea above, they're just other traits I thought of.

Durable- Battle//Automatic: +2 Endurance and +2 Defense, goes up 1 every level tier

Swift Striker- Battle//Automatic: +2 Offense and +2 Speed, goes up 1 every level tier

Persistent Fighter- Battle//Dependent//Restricted: If this pet's attack misses, its next attack has a +10% chance to land, does not stack

Burn- Battle//AP//Fire: Inflicts a burn that does 1 damage for the next 3 turns. 6 AP to start? Number of turns that the burn lasts increases with each level tier.

Taser- Battle//AP//Electricity//Restricted: Basically an Electric version of Wingstorm.

Bodyguard- Battle//AP: Applicable only to double battles. If this pet's partner is attacked and this pet uses Bodyguard, this pet takes damage for its partner (the damage taken is calculated using this pet's stats, not its partner's). Bodyguard protects the partner only from attacks that land after Bodyguard is used. 6 AP to start.

If the description for Bodyguard is confusing, here's an example:
Enemy 1 uses Pyro and hits User's Pet 2.
User's Pet 1 uses Bodyguard.
Enemy 2 uses Puncture and hits User's Pet 2
User's Pet 2 uses regular attack.
User's Pet 1 protects its partner from Puncture but not from Pyro.

Avenger- Battle//Dependent//Restricted (?): Applicable only to double battles. If this pet's partner is knocked out, this pet gains +? to all stats.

Able Airman - Like Able Seaman, but applying to aircrafts.  The character has spent enough time training that they are comfortable with most air craft (like airplanes and blimps, or maybe even a spacecraft of some sort), and has consistently been a pilot, copilot, etc. on such a craft.
Implemented – Able Airman

I think if we used the term Pilot you could also cover a space craft... :l;; since well a sea man can be any of the crew. Where as some space crafts and air crafts are one or two person only. Although it would depend really. Cause a whole space ship may need another term. I don't really know if I am explaining my self correctly but a Pilot is someone who mans/controls a ship, aircraft of any kind, ect.... not sure... :l

A Pilot could control an air craft or space craft.

But you could also have a space trait that could make someone.... worthy of going in space ;3; sorry english not working...

Edit:
What I mean to say is just cause one is sea worthy, or don't get air sick or can go in space. Does not mean they can Pilot something :U;; If you get what I mean. I still think a Pilot is the best word for someone who can control an air craft or space craft.

Although something to make some one worthy of going in to space with out getting sick is something different all together...
Implemented – To Boldly Go

So, maybe have a Pilot or (Airman) trait and an Astronaut trait? To differentiate between them?

Glitched - Physical/Personality - This creature's internal mechanisms are somehow damaged, causing it to perform erratically.

Inherent Ability - Battle/No Element/Dependent - This creature has an ability that it can utilize with much less drain on its own energy. (Select an AP Battle Trait to be linked to this trait. Once per battle, the pet can perform that Battle Trait with no AP cost. This cannot be linked to Power Drain or Power Sap.) //Restricted

Battle Trait ideas to support elemental attacks more since they seem to hardly get used compared to Lunge and so on.

Elemental Master - Battle (Restricted/Automatic) - Elemental attacks targetting more than one foe only need the AP cost of the single target spell (i.e. Windstorm costs the same as Aero).

Veteran Spellcaster - Battle (Restricted/Automatic) - All elemental attacks cost X AP less than they normally would.

Master Mage - Battle (Shrine/Automatic) - Bonus damage that gets normally only rolled for physical attacks gets rolled for elemental attacks as well.

Copycat- Battle (Restricted/One Use)- This pet can imitate opponents' moves. When used, this trait is replaced with the last AP, Activate, One Hit, One Use, or Dependent trait that the opponent used. If the user already knows the trait that would be copied, then the trait used before that would be copied. For instance, on turn 2, the opponent uses Pyro, and on turn 3, the opponent uses Horrific Moan. If Copycat is used on turn 3 but the user already knows Horrific Moan, then Pyro would be copied. This lasts for the duration of the battle.

Trapsetter- Battle (Restricted/One Use)- This pet can set traps for its opponents. Upon use, the user declares a number from 1-10. On each turn, the opponent rolls an extra d10 to determine whether they land in the trap or not. If the number rolled is the number picked by the user, the opponent takes damage. Damage increases per level tier.

shocking skin/electrical hide
This creatures body is surrounded by a strong electrical field, contact with it can cause damage and possibly paralysis to an opponent.

pets that could possibly have this trait: Sparquill, Voltage colored pets, Staigovald

Burning hide/molten body
This creatures body can cause burns if an opponent comes in contact with it either through chemicals, fire or magma/lava.

pets that could possibly have this trait: Candle Shinzo and lubshi, Hearth Quiksylph, magma creepers, Inferno Barghest

Slime body/sticky hide
This creatures body has a sticky substance on it that can stick to an opponent, slowing it down and possibly reduce damage taken from attacks (it could also immobilize an opponent depending on the differences in size the amount it slows down an opponent also depends on size)

pets that could possibly have this trait: Oil Barghest

Not exactly a new trait suggestion, but...Flyby Attack and Wing Buffet do the exact same thing. So you might want to tweak one or just remove one entirely xD;

??? - Diet - This creature’s diet consists of life energies/the life force's of other creatures.

To clarify, it would be creatures that have some means of absorbing the life energy, the life force that all living things supposedly have, from other creatures in order to survive. This is not referring to the soul, blood, or magical energies.

I have two characters that are examples of this, one being my vampire character, Lie, whom doesn't drink blood, but must be intimate with a person in order to steal life energy from them in order to sustain herself. Or my fiendish character, Chevalier, that makes pacts with other beings so that he may absorb their life energy in order to survive, which has caused the deaths of many mortals in the past, from draining away all of their life force.

Pact Maker - Magic - Able to create magical pacts with other beings that usually benefit both parties in some way.

Pact Holder - Magic - A being that has made a magical pact with another being.

Familiar - Magic  (Social?)  - A magically bound or created that being that serves another mystical being such as a witch, fairy, vampire, etc.

So I herd u liek Traitz...

Animation Mage - Magic - This creature can make some inanimate objects like dolls move or can even create its own marionettes out of the elements.

Shield Master - Magic - This creature is specialized in supporting and defensive magic.

Mind Reader - Magic - This creature can hear the thoughts of others or even read their memories.

Bound - Magic - This pet is bound to another in a way that would make it die if they would ever get separated too long or too far.

Stolen Power - Magic - This pet is either temporarily or permanently stopped from using its magic (because of a seal or similiar).

Time Mage - Magic - This pet can alter time or stop it altogether. (I propose we put all the time magic trait s into this one - the ones we have now don't include stopping time and having three would be too much)

Emotionless - Personality - It's not that this pet is cruel, it just is either only able to feel some emotions or has none at all.

Composed - Personality - This pet does its best to always act prim and proper and composed, trying to never lose its cool. ("Focused" should be more geared towards acting focused in difficult situations while this Trait would be more for everyday life.)

Complex - Personality - This pet is severely unhappy and obsessed with one or more parts of its body, even if others assure it that it looks fine.

Studious - Personality - This pet enjoys learning, no matter if it's for school and work or about topics it's interested in personally.

Cuddler - Personality - This pet needs a lot of affection, though it doesn't have to be in a romantic sense. It just enjoys being close (emotionally and physically) to others.

Bookworm - Personality - This pet prefers books over almost everything else.

Flirt - Personality - This pet likes to flirt a lot and knows how to entice others romantically.

Emotionally Unstable - Personality - This pet either has heavy mood swings or experiences emotions in extreme intensities, both high and low.

Proud - Personality - This pet is a very proud being, with all the good and bad that comes with that.

Heightened Senses - Physical - This pet has all senses working exceptionally well.

Ghost - Physical - This pet has no physical body anymore, but is still present, either seen or unseen.

Striking Feature - Physical - The pet has a body part that makes others always recognize it; be it an extra big nose, an unusual eye color or something else.

Powerhouse - Physical - This pet has incredible physical strength.

Weakling - Physical - This pet has so little physical strength that it can barely carry its own groceries.

Locked Form - Physical - This pet normally had another form, but for some reason doesn't have access to it right now and is stuck in its current body.

Hidden Identity - Social - This pet is hiding its true identity from others, either by disguising its form, giving out wrong names and information or both.

Experiment - Social - This pet has either always been or has become an experiment for some scientists, either in a good or horrible way.

Item Keeper - Social - This pet is the owner of an item which is desired by many others, be it because of rarity or magical power.

Metal Worker - Social - This pet is good at working with metals and is either a blacksmith, locksmith, jewlery seller...

Species trait suggestion:

The Radill is described as: "Believed to be good luck to farmers everywhere, Radill are adept at digging tunnels underground and moving around fast due to their sleek physique. Their vast tunnel work can lead for miles underground and their scales help dirt slide off their bodies so they can stay clean most of the time. Many times, to absorb sunlight, you will their their green hair frills sticking out from the dirt."

This implies they have plant-like qualities; I therefore suggest their diet be changed from omnivore to Omnivore/Photosynthesis, as pets can have two diets. I also suggest that they receive Classification Nightmare as a species trait, following the same logic.

EDIT:

Hulk Smash: This creature possesses so much strength, they find it difficult to control, and may accidentally cause harm to others or inanimate objects if angered or excited.
Other suggested names: Oops, Grrraaghh, Who Put That There
