I shall bombard you with my foreignness. Because simply, I am a foreigner. And I say so. D8< And... I try to find non-Reptiles and Mammals. D8 Which will be hard, since that's all we got. And yes, I will give you information from the one site. Because I am lazy. I dunno if this is any good or not though lawl.

Reptiles
Freakin' Frilled Neck Lizard D< Because I love them so~ How could you not, with their silly frill and attitude?

Birds
Kookaburra. How could I not mention this one? I love these things D8 They sit in Gum-trees and on electric wires and laugh at you. If the song is anything to go by.
Cassorwary. Or Emu D8

Marine Life
Scariest beast you'll find in the sea out here. Great White Shark. Like the one from Nemo P= Veeeerrry Scary. They get a lot of people out here.

Mammal
...Platypus. Because they are weird things.
I'd mention Wallabies, Kangaroos, Wallaroo's and Quokka's but we seem to have the two-legged, pouched, hopping kind of pet covered.

Okay! So our Mythology. Because I know you find it... somewhat interesting, right? xD; Thing is, with our mythology (aside from Bunyip, and Yowie), it's all based on stories telling about how simple creatures came to be. I'll shove some information about the Bunyip, I'll do some Dreamtime Stories later (along with Yowie and co.), when I'm not so tired. So, while it's like I'm suggesting normal pets. There's the concept behind it? I dunno how you'll read into it though xD; I'll just put up some of my favourites.

Bunyip
The crittuh of the Billabong (our word for Lagoon really? Kinda, sorta.) People believed they existed for quite some time.
There were so many descriptions of it, it's not funny xD; I'll shove a Wikipedia thing up.
"Descriptions of bunyips vary widely. George French Angus may have collected a description of a bunyip in his account of a "water spirit" from the Moorundi people of the Murray River before 1847, stating it is "much dreaded by them… It inhabits the Murray; but…they have some difficulty describing it. Its most usual form…is said to be that of an enormous starfish"[10] Robert Brough Smyth’s Aborigines of Victoria of 1878 devoted ten pages to the bunyip, but concluded "in truth little is known among the blacks respecting its form, covering or habits; they appear to have been in such dread of it as to have been unable to take note of its characteristics."[11] However, common features in many 19th century newspaper accounts include a dog-like face, dark fur, a horse-like tail, flippers, and walrus-like tusks or horns or a duck like bill.[12]"

I'm going to pitch ideas for Aquatic Life and Creepy Crawlies, yus? Yus.

--> The good old Riverwolf, the Giant Otter. I know we have Ferrikoons, but I don't think we yet have a pet that emulates their smooth look? Also crossable with all sorts'a exciting creatures, if that's what you fancy.

--> The Coelacanth. Ugly prehistoric dragonfish, and progenitor of win.

--> There are also insects such as the Earwig and Hercules Beetle. Sure, they may not be the most popular, but dem horns. (I would also leap to suggest roaches, but I fear that many people would find them off-putting no matter what magic you worked.)

--> Dragonflies. The world at large needs more of them.

--> Alright, back to fish. Deep-sea Stargazer, maybe in conjunction with the Coelacanth?

--> The Sea Dragon? This one is called the Leafy, but there's a bunch of 'em.

--> The Mantis Shrimp. Creepy, intelligent hunter.

--> Hatchetfish?

--> A Ray of some sort? This one is Manta, but I know there are more fanciful ones out there.

--> And although I'm jacking this image from a talented artist on dA, I'd like to call attention to the "under-water panther", or Mishibijiw, of Algonquin legend. Image linked for size and privacy.

--> There's also the Cu Gwyrdd of Scots/Irish folklore, that might fall in with Aquatic Life. The best image I could find of it is this one. From what I've read, the Cu Gwyrdd is a mythical...dog, sort of - about as much like a dog as Entei, I'd imagine - that lived in the marshes, fens, and weeds of bodies of water. It lurked beneath and fed on people foolish enough to step into its territory without paying it the proper respect, usually by dragging them underwater by their ankles and eating them alive before they drowned. It could leave the water, but not for long, lest it risk drying out and disintegrating into seaweed, kelp and other water fauna.

Thirding the Leafy Sea Dragon. Is that pic from the Monterey Bay Aquarium? I live about 15 minutes away from there. I always look forward to visiting the penguins and the dragons and everything. Such fun.

A bloomin' turtle! C'mon, a turtle monster's super basic.

Or maybe an early mammal. They are the weirdest-looking prehistoric creatures ever, bar none. They looked like the offspring of a triceratops and a naked mole rat. But some of them are still kind of cute. X3 like this one. Or this one. Search "evolution of mammals" on Wikipedia for more than enough weird fodder. XD

As for sea life, I also second the manta ray and leafy sea dragon ideas!

...I find it sort of odd that people would object to humanoid "pets," but then have no problem giving pets human forms. XD

Owls. D8; I love these guys, and I'm fairly certain we dun have any~? X3 But I could always be wrong.


Binturongs These guys are the coolest and cutest things evah D8; I've worked with a baby and they are just awesome. They're aggressive (but so far, the species as a whole has a thing for grapes, hold one out and they will do anything), can be trained, have prehensile tails and act like a bear/ cat/ monkey mix. Plus, look at that Face D8; So adorable <3

Another mammal, Bongoes 8D!. They're a type of antelope and live in Africa and tend to go around in small groups. They are incredibly gentle (unless provoked) and are very protective of eachother. <3 I d'ove them.
