This is getting off-topic, but...

It doesn't matter; even if he would have "apparent plans of returning" - he's not allowed to and won't be. And yes, those were his customs. If he saved the images somewhere and uses them elsewhere with giving credit, I think no one would mind since he indeed bought them, but as far as it concerns Evelon, he has no rights on anything anymore. He's gone forever, nothing will change that and since he asked to be banned, he had the chance to distribute any pets he wanted to go into specific hands before that anyway, since it didn't come as a surprise to him.

Re: * Random Event Ideas

Postby Shieba » 08/26/2012 10:25 AM

Okay, since RE2 asked for feedback twice in the updates, I thought I should provide some? XD

- I REALLY liked how we could choose the area this time. Since the Easter Event lives from many posts done in a time limit, it's really helpful to be able to choose the setting freely to match the characters one wants to RP the most or can RP the easiest. My RPs with Millie spawned one hell of a plot because of that and I'm really happy about it.

- I must say that the Easter Event is also my favourite event out of them all. There are many reasons for that:
a) There is an extra section for it, making it transparent (as opposed to normal hunts, where I'm always wondering if RE2 maybe overlooks them)
b) There are time limits, encouraging people to do something. Time limits always help with getting things done.
c) There are a LOT of prizes to choose from, which is very encouraging since basically everyone can find something they like. I also loved the slightly random factor of the Halftone Eggs! Because all other pets could be picked freely, it's far more rewarding and encouraging to participate in this than in normal hunts.
d) Far more people can participate than in the other RE2 events - like the Palmie one, where only five people could enter at the same time. Yet I believe that this event also means less work for RE2, so it's a win-win thing? o3o

The only minor complaint I have - which might not be even a complaint at all - is that I think (I'm not sure) that we were able to choose wild pets as a reward in prior years and I missed that this time. But I also might be wrong because I can't find the prize lists from prior years anymore. D8

This brings me to the second thing I wanna talk about: Wild pets and hunts. This is more for Christmas already than Halloween, but since it's also about all-year-around hunts, I think I should mention it anyway.

During last Christmas, we had the hunts for the cardinal pets and the winter pets. And I think we all noticed that, after the beginning, most of the hunts died pretty quickly. I think that's a problem with hunts in general. Basically no one ever does hunts anymore because...well, maybe this is a complaint, but I think we all noticed that RE2 has...long periods of inactivity because of a busy RL. Which is totally cool and understandable, but seeing as how awesome our wild pets are, maybe we should change the current system somewhat, which would change the Christmas event as well?

I had the idea of making "Hunting Seasons" for the all-year-around pets. Basically, when RE2 has free time and can actually care for hunts, they declare a hunting season during which all hunts made in that time and with a certain activity will get the usual "you-get-a-pet"-roll. Basically, doing what we had for the Christmas event for the year-round wild pets whenever RE2 feels like it or has the time.

To make this different from the Christmas event, I would suggest changing the Christmas event slightly. Last year, it was "You go make hunts everywhere and maybe you'll find something". I had suggested before that an event where people can far more actively influence what wild pet they get might be nice. The problem there was that Hunters were too rare for that and only the Palmie offered enough color choices to make an event out of this. But with the Christmas pets, it could be done since there are only a few pets to pick from totally. So it would be more "If you want a Silent Night Sygriff, you have to hunt in X and Y, but remember, those are rather rare!" and maybe put a limit of how many hunts everyone can be in. Like, everyone gets two hunts during Christmas and can place them whereever they want, trying for the specific pets they want, but if they go for two rare ones, they might just as well end up with none at all because of how the rolling system works. Since the event pets come around only once a year, it would be nice to be able to influence what you get a bit better. As I said, the fact that you can influence your prizes so much more is one of the reasons why I, personally, like the Easter event so much.

As for Halloween specifically, I don't have any real ideas, but maybe that's because I don't like Halloween in general. XD; I certainly wouldn't mind just a raffle if it means less work, seeing as Halloween is during school time (you guys don't get an autumn break, right?). I'd rather see more stuff for Christmas, when the site is more active anyway, and a bit less for Halloween. But again, that's me liking Christmas and not liking Halloween...
But maybe some sort of...trick to the raffle would be nice? Since Halloween is about dressing up and all. Maybe there could be (secret) categories and the pets we send have to dress up either as a different species or can just "wear" a generic costume? And pet species A, B, C and D automatically enter in a "secret" extra raffle for some CP, species E, F, G and H automatically enter in a "secret" extra raffle for an extra puzzle piece from Elie...or something like that. Basically, more like Trick or Treat, to compliment the SS Shop, where you don't know what you will get, either. Since Halloween is about suspense and excitement and all that. I dunno? Or all these things could be extra prizes, like basically all children get candy on Halloween, so almost everyone who enters the raffle could get something small, even if it's just five CP or something. Basically, a raffle but with more variety than last year.

Just popping in to say I like the idea of hunting seasons. I think it would encourage people to hunt (because as Shieba mentioned, time limits get things done) and it would also help you if things get too busy. I'm not sure about the idea of being able to influence which pets you find though. I understand why it was suggested and admittedly it would be nice, but I also think it should sort of be something which is random. The only way I can think of maybe incorporating that would be to have certain pets more likely to pop up in certain hunting seasons (but not with a specific schedule so there isn't a set time for a certain species to be more likely) but still have other species available at the same time.

For Halloween my ideal event would be some sort of ghost/monster-hunting thing going on, with new pets like the Christmas seasonals. I don't know how practical that would be though :3 If it's not a good time for you then you could possibly make it so that people roleplay the event and then for every so-many posts they get a chance at finding a pet, but it's only calculated once the event is over. That way you wouldn't need to be 'present' as such throughout the actual event, although again I don't know if this is something that could work or not. Post-count might make the pets too common but there might be something else you could use in a similar way?

Anyway, those are my suggestions :3 I might be back with some more later if I think of any

Theoretically, all hunts getting a pet roll is how it's supposed to work. RE2 is theoretically supposed to roll for all hunt threads, and post at some point whether or not the hunters were successful. I don't think a particular season is needed for that, really; I just think it needs to be a matter of RE2 working out a bit better. I know RE2 used to have two people working it, and I don't know what happened to that, but if they're both still there, maybe they can coordinate? If not, perhaps a second person could be hired to help increase RE2's functionality.

I do like the idea of a ghost hunt, though. Maybe there could be a "haunted house" event. There was one a couple years back and it was fun.

I am glad you enjoyed the Easter Events. xD Sorta.. puts me in an awkward spot when I'm told to keep running them, because the original easter event was just to trial a system me and my old partner invented for a totally different (secret) thing. xD Buut anyho. Movingalong, nothingtoseehere.  But, no. xD I am happy that people enjoy it. I am considering pushing the limit to a week, opposed to 5 days but. They are next years considerations, I guess.

Ah. The wild pets? Yes, I left them out deliberately and I can safety say they won't be returning. The idea of this was to increase the number of hunt threads and the rarity of wild pets. They aren't technically 'retro pets' because they are still available.

Hunting seasons... may be a good idea, in that. Like. I can let people know when I can actually do hunts. I have stated before (in my guide I think, But know that some people won't bother reading that.) that hunts are down, whenever events are on because of the workload thing, because I took over the original RE2's work. There is technically only one working RE2 member as of right at this very moment. Would... you like me to update with small things such as when my workload is free enough to initiate 'hunting seasons'?
I am not sure about the idea to increase the rarity of certain pets or not (I already had.. sorta asked about introducing pets that changed with the seasons, but I was told to do 'holiday' pets instead), but I will think about it.

... I am.. not exactly sure if I could handle the workload of a large event around Halloween. Halloween is actually the busiest time of my year. My schooling doesn't follow the 'norm' as far as American schooling goes, so that time of year is when my finals and end of semester exams are. Which is why, I do sort of like the smaller workload ideas.
In regards to that kind of event. How did you guys find the Thanks for Life day Risk Events? Or even something similar to that, without the risk?

Sorry if I have skipped over anything, misread something etc, etc. And I'm sorry if that seems rambling. ;m; It's laaate and if there was a point you wanted me to address, let me know. I will reread this in the morning just to make sure I didn't miss any suggestions though.

In that case, letting us know when you're active enough to do "hunting seasons" would do just fine for me. :D I also like the seasonal pets, and would like more of them. Like the Cardinals and the First Snow Leplora. Eyup.

For a haunted house thing you could always set up the thread but have someone in charge of doing it. Like how freezair did one over the Holiday Season last year. Even though she did it on her own, she did a really good job at managing it. So getting someone who fairly active would be a good substitute since people can sympathize that you cant do it because of school. The person who runs it doesn't necessarily have to hand out the pets/prizes and stuff. They just have to roll and mark what people are doing. Or on topic of a haunted house type thing, you can set it up like a clue game type thing. People are set up in a house where a murder happened. And in the process of trying to find the murderer, you are given clues on what happened. So people are given a set of "cards" at the beginning of each round and you can look at other peoples cards when something happens or something like that (as you can tell I haven't played this game in a long time). But in the end, the person closest to solving the mystery wins. You are given 5 (or more)rounds (posts) going in order of who got there first to who got there last.
And the murderers are a set of like shaded in figures  kinda like ghosts. But whoever gets is right/ whoever is closest gets the "murderer" which is a new skinned pet/halloween themed pet.

Put you know thats just a thought....

Feedback for the Halloween event:

I really liked the Halloween event! It was like the Easter Event, just with more slots (something I extremely appreciate) and that you could go solo (which I also extremely appreciate). I am glad that the posting limit was announced after a bit, it was really demotivating to not know it at first and risk going overboard with posts. The limit of 25 posts was, in my opinion, perfect.

There is, however, one thing I must really say was pretty poorly choosen: The time of the event. Because November is NaNoWriMo and there are always quite a lot of people from Evelon participating in it. I, for one, managed to get the first round of the event done because it was still in October, but there was no way in hell I could juggle a second time with my novel in November, even though I would have loved to join again. But alas, I couldn't. Because that made me sad and because I saw lotsa NaNo widgets in people's signatures here, maybe hosting such an event that requires lots of RPing in October instead of November would be better. No one would be mad if the sending of the pets would take some longer, I think.

Kicking this back up with a poll and a long debated topic.

Keep or Abolish the need for tags.

I'm sorry this topic has been done to death, but I wanted a revote I guess! The system has moved to being slightly more automated, with RE making really generic posts in order to minimise impact in threads and the main concern with RE butting in was derailing roleplays.
I bring this up, because partly the lack of hunts that came out with the Lost Pets release! Partly it's my fault because I still need to attack some threads, but I had a few more things lined up after the Lost pets that are pretty much good to go, but were waiting for more... hunt threads I guess. So this is intended to speed that up a little, provide incentive for fast moving RP's (remember, the 25 post count is a pretty poor chance at finding a pet, and the more you post, the more likely it is for your hunt to be successful) and more main area roleplays in general.
I may even consider a tiny KS reward for failed hunts even, just to keep the motivation there? Maybe!

I dunno, there's not really much else to say on it, but I put up a poll so you could quickly vote if you didn't feel like replying, then all I ask for is about 10 seconds for a decision and a vote!
Thank you!

I want hunt pets, but hunt threads would be harder for me to be motivated for! Cause what if the pet I find doesn't fit the people looking, or what if they get bored, or or or... etc.

And just yes, so much easier~

I like the hunt tags! I guess I would just find it really weird if a pet were to just show up in a normal thread of mine. (Disclaimer: I wasn't around for the old Random Event, so maybe it's just me.) Would it be okay to just ignore the event for the sake of the plot and maybe come back to it later or something?

As for the lack of hunt threads, I think there's just a lack of non-breeding roleplays in general. Only a few ever get past the first 10 posts. The Quest Master didn't get too many roleplay entries lately, either.

Personally, I haven't started as many hunt threads as I've wanted to because I'm still kind of waiting on a response to my first one. I'm worried about failing my hunt then having to keep additional threads active when I might not have the time to do so.

Before I vote, I'd like to ask about some confusion I have about the tags. Are we talking about removing the [HUNT] and [RE2] requirements from threads? And if so, how would RE2 know which threads to hit? Would it be, like...any RP with 25+ posts would be eligible for a wild pet drop, then?

If that's the case, that seems like it would be putting a lot of work on RE2? It would also be kind of unusual to be doing a serious plot-heavy RP and suddenly have a wild pet turn up. I can't think of any way I would work that into the roleplay, and I wouldn't want it to be, like..."oh hey, here's a pet reward for having a long RP, have fun with it". If anything, that would be the point where I'd find my RP interrupted?

Tagging threads seems like the most reasonable way to let RE2 know that hey, this thread is focused around the hunt and we're expecting you. Due to it being tagged, intrusion from RE2 would be welcome, right? In fact, I'm really surprised to hear that there was an issue with old RE2 disrupting RP in hunt threads; I'd thought that RE2 stopped roleplaying drops because it was time-consuming.

Although I do sympathize with the current plight of having multiple hunts running. The way I presume it's supposed to work is that if you fail your first roll/aren't chosen for a wild pet, you're supposed to just keep posting in that same thread until you do get one...or not. But I can understand how it can be tough to keep the same storyline (particularly one centered around looking for something?) going for 50+ posts. So your feasible options are to keep posting forever with no idea how you're doing, or give up. Maybe it would possible to have a small post or a note from RE2 when a roll happens and fails, just so the poster knows that their thread has been looked at. That way someone can choose to persevere or move on.
Why did it all go wrong?
I wanna know what's going on.
And what's this holding me?
I'm not where I'm supposed to be.

Postby ToxxicRenegadeAngel » 03/06/2016 6:38 AM

I have to admit, I agree with Ander here; whilst it's always nice to receive pets it would be odd to have it occur in a thread that has nothing to do with a random pet being involved.

Furthermore, I recall being told that in the old system you had to give something up from the character that found the pet in order to keep the wild pet; is this still in effect? It would be very disconcerting to have a pet that you weren't looking for drop, then be forced to remove something permanently from your character in order to keep it, despite how awesome it looks.

Maybe it would be an idea to remove the tags, but implement a sub-section either in certain RP areas, or the main hubs of the continent (maybe even the Bridge sections) where all RPs there are eligible for a pet drop? Then people who do want a pet to drop (or at least wouldn't mind a random pet dropping into their RPs) could post there, whilst RPs that it would not be appropriate for would stay untouched.

I also think that maybe a small hint from RE2, even to let you know that you were unsuccessful - maybe something along the lines of "there's a paw print here, but whatever made it appears to have run away" - would be a good thing, as the person writing the thread could either keep looking or try their luck somewhere else.

Maybe  a tag to indicate you do not wish RE2 to touch your thread would be an idea? Putting [Ignore] in the title would indicate that you actively do not wish a random pet to drop for you in that RP, thus avoiding the interference in the plot, but it would abolish the need for the hunt tag and would enable all other RPs to be eligible for a random pet drop.

I'm gonna quickly step in here for RE2 while they're not around, since I've worked with them/had access to their notes via the mod area, but.. ah. I feel like I need to address some misconceptions since there's still some confusion over how RE2 works these days.

RE has changed considerably, news posts and the Help! thread (and see the recent replies they've done) are along a new system of simply cutting and pasting a very, very, very generic reply, into a couple of different threads. Well, it would become more apparent that they're cut and paste once we actually have more threads. But the idea is low impact responses. There's no more roleplaying to get the pet, no more sacrifices, and there's no more roleplaying with RE2 unless it's an event with that in mind. It's literally like... Neopets, I guess. You get a notification with a pre-written message at the top of your page. This is our forum adaptation of that.
RE has always posted in failed threads as well, this is not a new thing or a proposed thing.

So the idea is, we take out the tags ([HUNT]/[RE2]). All threads are free game. But no, RE2's workload would not increase, since it's proposed they usually work on a quota (x threads per month/fortnight/etc). They brought this up because... well. They log in, see no active threads, log off and well... forget. There's not enough activity, so why bother logging on? So they forget. That kinda thing. They wanted a way to break this cycle.

... I think I cleared everything up maybe? If not I can explain more specifically if you have questions.

Ok, I think I understand a bit better now, but doesn't it still necessitate a post being thrown into the RP thread to indicate that something has been found?

And how would the pet be indicated/dispensed? Is it just the case of RE2 posting and sending the pet via PM, or does the RP writer need to acknowledge the post? Would they need to pm RE2 to claim the pet?
