So. I had this idea, that might not be entirely practical or even doable (Hell, I don't even know if it's already been suggested!) due to a privacy thing buuuut I was intending to sort of propose some sort of system that allows someone (probably a mod or something) to send out a site-wide message to everyone if the site goes down (though I'd like to thing that it won't happen again xD) explaining the basics of the issue.
Just since I know a few of the mods and Baal were tired of explaining the same message multiple times, due to the nature of the IRC.

Anyway. I don't really... have much in the way of suggestions as to how it would happen (in the event that this idea was considered viable), as I was primarily thinking of an email list or something, since the use of our facebook group would be sort of redundant because not everyone here has Facebook.

I know this is possible from the Admin Panel, where we can mass-email everyone who has an email entered (I'm pretty sure that's how it works). If the Admin Panel is accessible even when the forums are down... then yeah, I think it'd be do-able.

I know I wanted to mass-email people after we got the forums back to explain what had happened, in case new members saw the Forbidden and just thought Evelon had died.

I remember adminning an RP forum in my teen years, and using that feature once or twice. XD I heard that there was a backup board that Talcen made? Maybe we should have an "official" backup board, link to it, and tell everyone to bookmark it and to check it immediately should the site go down.

Just a thought but instead of a mass email couldn't there either be a twitter account (because some of us are still incapable of using facebook), or the wiki could post it as a page possibly? That would solve the issue of getting information passed around if the site itself is down.

I do like Nyxia's idea of a twitter. Anyone can check a twitter message from a user, even if they don't have an account themselves, so it could be easy. I also approve of having a back up e-mail list used by Baal or one of the mods. I know they already have my e-mail since I have ordered customs, so it wouldn't make a difference to me if they kept an e-mail on file.

I think the problem with Facebook, Twitter, Wiki and even the Backup Forum is not EVERYONE is going to use it. I'm on Facebook, I hate Twitter. Twitter doesn't work for me. Facebook doesn't work for somebody else who posted earlier. I mean nothing will be 100% or anything but I think we should try to avoid any of the social sites just because not everyone, not even close to everyone, is going to have it. And if they did they may not feel comfortable sharing/adding Evelon to something that might be more RL oriented.

I like the e-mail thing but that requires the site to be up to access the link.

I do agree that a mass e-mail should be sent to all members now to explain what happened though.

As I said about Twitter, you don't have to have an account or be friends with someone to view what they say. All you have to do is search part of their account's title on Twitter. (Such as if we had one with Evelon in the title, we would just have to search that word in their search.) For the most part, I do not like Twitter, but because of the fact that no one has to actually be a part of it to read a message on it, I do support us having one so that news can be issued.

My suggestion for E-mails WHILE the site is down, however, would be for users to sign up (through PMs) for an e-mail news list, which is saved either on Baal or a Mod's computer or e-mail address book. If they want, a user can freely give out an e-mail to this list, which is only used in these sort of mass PM cases.

And I don't see anything wrong with that sort of e-mail list. Besides it being another list to keep track of. X3

I suggested email initially, because I know for a fact some email hosters have the ability to set up lists where, once all the names are added, it's a one click process to add all the names to it. Which means, after the initial set up I don't think there'd be too much to keep track of, unless someone actually wants to change that. And also. Like Moofie said, I try not to associate Evelon too much with my RL, to the point where I'm not even overly fond of my screenname being used on Facebook but. :C

While I... am a little 'allergic' to Twitter, I sort of like that suggestion, since a lot of sites are using Twitter in order to inform members of things like that.
