Re: Farm Revival

I like the idea of having to invest money before you can make money. Because that's how the real economy works. You buy a store to make more money than you spent on it. Another idea with that, is that you have to buy a farm. Like 30Ks per plot. And the more plots you have (up to a limit) The more crops and pets you can hold there. so like one crop could have a cotton like plant while another plot could hold a Roosken coop. that way you don't just go in at it full swing. You have to keep in mind what you want where, and if it is worth it in the long run. And for crop/plantations areas the plant dies out after it is harvested and you can put anything else there. Like a stable. But you can't get rid of a coop or a stable.

Because I could not stop for Death,
He kindly stopped for me;
The carriage held but ourselves
And Immortality

^ That could work. Maybe there could be a wider range of pets available to get items from? Like, maybe all bird-like pets could lay eggs? They'd look pretty similar and mostly sell the same, maybe they could be different for item crafting, but to let people have more choice?

EDIT: The "^" is directed at Kodai. Ninja'd.

"        Draiz          "Another option would be that they actually have to post seven days in a row (a week straight) before they offer a product." I saw Harvest Moon mentioned in the other suggestion thread, and this reminds me of it. And I like it. o 3o Basically the posting at least once per day is how you keep the pet happy. Like in harvest moon how if your critters aren't happy you don't get crap
Draiz          Posting 2 weeks in a row or 3 weeks in a row could also bump up the quality of the item. o 3o *not done readying, but just rambling*
Draiz          2 weeks for second quality, and then 4 for top quality or something"

We mods talk, yes. =B;

Anyways, there are a few ideas I have liked. I don't mind seeing potions and items being made out of the crops and pet items. Originally we had been talking about being able to turn them in to Canvas at the toy shop for toys made out of the items. For example, feathers being used for the little Shi'Hana doll. That thought was abandoned when the farm was though.

As far as paying for items such as seeds to plant... if we wanted to stick to just pets for now, it wouldn't be hard to make the same concept work. Instead of seeds though you'd just be buying supplies that the animals would need. If you're raising roosken or some other bird, you're going to need bird feed. If you're raising Tuskow, you're going to need hay to feed them. Meat for your carnivorous pets, ect. And some of them items can be more expensive than others, depending on the type of pets. Some feeds(or other needed items) can even be exclusive to certain pets, as they aren't able to be sustained on just a typical diet. For example, if a Garudor need special vitamins in its diet that it can't get by just eating bird feed. Just an example.

This would allow you to use the wider range of pets if you wanted or keep to just the current ones. You also wouldn't have to use high level pets as your cash cows if we used the system for the longer you post the better item you get, or something along those lines. Just a thought. But yeah, I've caught up and read all of this now.

I kinda skimmed the main ideas here and I must say...the thought that you have to post every day to do this scares me. I mean, I don't have a job and am at home but I still have a day every one and a half weeks when I just can't be online and I don't want to think about people who have school or go on trips or have vacations or unstable internet. Imagine you need four weeks for top quality and then, boom, internet provider fails you and you have no internet for two days and all the work was in vain. Yeah. That would disappoint me so much I'd quit the system right away, especially if you have to invest in food. Because that would mean that you just wasted two weeks of food for nothing because your internet failed you or there was some RL emergency. Nope.

I'm far more for a system where you can post once a day for a month and every day you post needs food and at the end of the month, you get money based on the amount of days you posted. So people who post every day still get the largest reward, but sudden RL emergencies don't mean that you suddenly wasted money because nothing bad happens if you miss a day or ten. You get less money, yes, but you don't lose it all just because you had no internet access for a day.

Feed and what not would be a one time monthly purchase. I don't see a need to make someone buy more feed every single day. And we've already established that any fee would be small. Less than the return you'd get for the lowest rank item that pet can give. As long as you'd manage to finish one week you'd get some sort of profit, even if it wasn't the highest one. It's also not hard to make a whole five sentence really quick. Doesn't have to be a three paragraph post daily

Ah okay, that makes it better then. I still don't like the fact that people with no continuous internet access have no chances at all to get the top reward, though. There's little you can do if you are willing but RL conditions don't work in your favour. D8 Because of that I'd still like a system that counts how many days you posted in a month, total. Like level 1 reward would require ten days total, level 2 reward 20 days and level 3 reward a full 30 days.

As an "items as stat boosts" idea, maybe items could increase stats past their caps to a certain degree?

I personally would enjoy gaining more KS for every roleplay post I make, but that would admittedly get out of hand really fast if people start posting a lot more really fast.

This part is probably just me rambling on about "Intro to Economics" stuff you probably already know, but I'm assuming the problem here is keeping the amount KS circulating in the Evelon Economy roughly the same, correct? So, in any case, the amount of money we create from "nowhere" as apposed to transferring between users (such as from farming) just has to equal roughly the amount that goes into "nowhere". I would recommend just distributing the total amount of KS from all the users crop yield to be about as much as whatever people are spending on the sinks. Just divide that amount of KS between users however you like.

Re: Farm Revival

Postby Kodai » 02/01/2013 12:26 AM

HEY LOOK I thought about things.

I've eased up on the idea of crops a bit, though I'm still going to push for pet-stuff being more important. Here's what I've thought of:
-Crop farming and pet farming would be two different things (sort of). You would only be able to get KS from crop farming (and maybe actual items eventually that you could sell to other people/a main shop), while pet farming would get you items that you could trade in to get other items -- I was thinking of stat-boosters again (I'll talk about that more later). Although you would be able to sell your pet-farmed items to other players, there wouldn't be a main shop to sell them in like last time.
----If we decide to make potions craftable from farming items, however, I think I'd want to have those items be crops (mostly because I can more easily imagine our current potions as being plant-based). You wouldn't be able to get KS from/sell these crops at the main shop, however -- they'd basically be like the pet-farmed items (but without levels).
-You'd be able to do both types of farming at the same time, if you wanted to. (That is, you wouldn't have to choose if you wanted to crop-farm or pet-farm during the month -- you could do both.) Dunno if that was a thing people would be worried about, but there it is. XD

Okay, let's talk about the stat-boosting items:
-They would be one-use items, like potions, that would permanently increase a stat by 1, 2, or 3 points, depending on its level (Level 1 item for +1 point, etc.).
-Like potions, there would be a thread to record who owns them and who's used them on what pet. It would be like recording ELEs, really.

I had ideas for what the items could be, too:
- Endurance Boost: Chimerantula Venom -> Venom Injection - Only the most hardcore fighters know of the best trick to increasing your Endurance: Take a needle full of the most potent venom you can find and inject yourself with small amounts of it daily.
- Offense Boost: Egg -> Raw Egg Shake - Eww! Apparently this glass of raw eggs will help boost your Offense, but boy must it taste disgusting!
- Defense Boost: Hollowheart Scale and Battleheart Scale -> Powdered Scale Shake - This glass contains powdered dragon scales and water. It might taste funny, but it's a guaranteed way to improve your Defense!
- Precision Boost: Wool and Celestial Wool -> Yarn Target - I'm not sure why this small target is made of yarn. Whatever the reason, though, it sure is good for helping you work on your Precision!
- Speed Boost: Kasuga Antler -> Antler-Embedded Racing Track - This relatively short, portable racing track has had antlers embedded into it. It's probably not very pleasant to run on, but maybe that's how it helps you improve your Speed?

...I'm not sure what to do with Milk. :,| I don't really want to have a boost for Fame (since that's not something you can train, really)... Maybe it could go with the Offense Boost or something?

Things people mentioned earlier:
-Posting requirements to get items (either 'every day for x days' or 'x days per month')
-Being required to pay for seeds/pet registration/pet unregistration/new pet slots
-RE2 appearing and affecting your harvest
-Getting extra KS for having x amount of posts per month
-Different posting restrictions for basic vs. special items
-Cheap seeds that you could grow with any pet for small profit vs. more expensive pet-specific items that you would need to use with that pet for larger profit
-Pay for a farm with 'plots'; buy more plots to hold more crops/pets
-Making more species capable of producing pet items

So, with these new ideas in mind... what do you think would work? (And feel free to give more suggestions on the stat-boosting items~)

I wonder if anyone will see this, lawl.

they're lesbians, harold

Make Milk boost precision. It does a body good, after all! And Yarn could increase Fame, because you can make it into a really snazzy and fashionable sweater that people talk about.

Wow, I think that farming would be a very unique thing to have. I personally love the idea, but for many different reasons. I think the idea of buying plots would be good, but unfair. Not saying that it’s impossible to get, but some users would be able to have lots of plots while others would have maybe only one or two.For me, stat boosting potions wouldn't really do anything since I don't level my pets, or plan on fighting them, although I could see this being useful.

Buying seeds and pet slots could work, but I don't think I understand what pet registration would entail so I am kind of put off by that idea. I think that pets producing pet items should be restricted to 'farm' type pets, since it is a farm type deal. I agree with posting requirements, people who post more often should have better chances of getting items over people who post very little. Plus the more you post the bigger of a chance you would have at a special item.

Altogether though, I would love to have a little farm. I had never seen this before and now I am really intrigued by the idea.

Crop farming and pet farming would be two different things: I'm fine with this, but I don't see why we couldn't get KS from pet farming as well?

I like the idea of creating potions from crops and stat boosters from pet items. For the specific stat boosters, here's what I think they should be.

Offense: Egg (Protein for muscles)
Defense: Milk (Milk helps build strong bones)
Precision: Chimerantula Venom (Chimerantulas are supposed to be great hunters, so they'd probably have good Precision...)
Endurance: Battleheart Scale (Since Battlehearts have tough hides)
Speed: Kasuga Antler (The race track idea seems a little weird to me, so I'd propose instead that it could be grounded into a powder that acts like a stimulant to improve reaction time.)
Fame: Wool and Celestial Wool (For Freezy's fashion reason)
AP: Hollowheart Scale (Yes, AP P= I'm guessing this would be some kind of powder too.)

Posting requirements to get items: I'm fine with this idea.
Being required to pay for seeds/pet registration/pet unregistration/new pet slots: I like this idea too.
RE2 appearing and affecting your harvest: Could be neat as well, though what kinds of effects would happen?
Getting extra KS for having x amount of posts per month: It would be nice, but we'd need an appropriate amount so there's no truckloads of KS coming out of the farms again.
Different posting restrictions for basic vs. special items: ...what exactly would be restricted? And what is the difference between basic and special items? I only skimmed through the previous posts, so...
Cheap seeds that you could grow with any pet for small profit vs. more expensive pet-specific items that you would need to use with that pet for larger profit: By pet specific, I'm assuming you mean species specific? I like this concept; it doesn't strike me as necessary, per se, but it's interesting.
Making more species capable of producing pet items: I'd definitely like to see this because I don't have many characters that are of the species that do produce items. Before, people were adopting pets solely for the purpose of getting farm items from them and weren't actually using them in RPs. I think creating more species items will resolve this problem.

I was thinking that a Tea made out of the shed leaves of plant based pets would be interesting o3o. I only thought about it while looking at the Leaflet, Learf and Leawolf evolution lines. XD

Florana in an RE2 view could benefit the farm where as a Wilt Florana would be negative?

Maybe specific things to be more valuable based on the coloration of the pet? Although that would not work for customs XD;; Like say... with the Treasure Roosken.... they could maybe have a change to produce a golden egg? XD I have no idea but yeah just spewing out ideas.

Or even a extremely rare Harvest specific pet. Say a pet was attracted to a particular thing? XD Maybe? it might encourage people to farm more if there was something in the out come besides ks and stats o3o? There could be a trader who trades for specific items...like a number of them for specific pets? XD lol I realize that this would mean more work for me and Kreepy. XD;; I would be willing to give it a shot though once I finish a few other things first. :3

I really like these ideas, but I'm with Shieba in that the number of times you post (total) in a month should be taken into account - losing a whole week because RL steps in and messes you up would be disappointing.
