So. This was talked about a bit in the IRC last night, so I figured I should make a post about this.
The tl;dr version of it is: I suggest a return to the old precision system until the new one has been fully implemented (meaning the thread about battle traits has a detailed explanation of how it works and the precision and dodge Traits have been adjusted because right now they basically work like I-Win-Cheats since they are still based on the old system).
Long version:
The new precision system was implemented to the surprise of most people and that all of sudden. Even worse, it happened when people had already posted their pets in the barracks, thus locking their Traits in place. Heck, it even was slapped upon us when the first battle was already taking place (which I won amazingly quickly because I was using a character who had a lot of dodge/hit increasing Traits because he's a thought-reader).
I have noticed so far that very few people have been fighting so far in the war and I can't help but think that it's because of the overly complicated new system and the fact that it's obviously not done yet. Because of this, I want to suggest a few things.
- The most important thing is to go back to the old system until the Traits have been fixed. Because Precision is now a Percentage value, everyone who is up against a pet having hit skills is now toast. For example, Deadly Precision gives you a 50% hit increase. Yes. Even if your Precision is a measly 1, this boosts your hit rate to 99% since you always have 50% basic hit rate. Likewise, your Precision can be 50, if your opponent has Avoidance, you are stuck with 50% hit rate. (In the battle I had with Talcen, I had both Avoidance and Deadly Precision. It was ugly for Talcen.)
So, pets with this are basically auto-winners. And we're in the war - if pets die, they're dead for at least quite some time and may not be RPed anymore. The new system is not ready without the Traits matching. I have NO idea why it was released without the Traits being changed as well because this does. Not. Work.
- Second, I think people who made their barrack posts before the new system was introduced should be allowed to either redo their Traits or even change pets because they had no idea what was coming.
- Third - this is more a personal thing - I think the one dead pet we have so far should be revived immediately. I basically two-shot Talcen because the messed-up Traits made me pretty much invincible - thanks to Avoidance locking the opponent at 50% hit rate no matter what Precision they have, Talcen had no chance and should NOT take the punishment for this. The battle had already started when the new system was implemented, but instead of using the old system for that one still, we got the new one upon us and it sucked. Yeah, I won, but I feel horrible about it because I basically feel like I used cheats, because that's what those Traits are right now. (Again, please fix the damn Traits!)
- Fourth...someone please post in the big update section AND in the thread that explains how battles work (where the old system is still explained and the new one not even mentioned) in a slow and well-formatted way how the new system works. Dai, I love you to bits, but that big, rambly paragraph you wrote about this in the Minor Update section is not doing well at explaining how this works. Math should always be presented with a good layout and in detail, not in mainly text in a paragraph. I needed to read that thing four times to understand it and I was basically the one who developed the new system (even though that was long, long, long ago) with you.
