Univeral Clock!

Postby Skeetzybug » 04/20/2014 4:56 AM

Hello, Suggestions board! So, I've realized with the Kuhna key release that a second's difference can be a big deal here sometimes, whatwith the rush to key-grab and all. I looked around earlier, and couldn't find a ticking clock on the site anywhere. (If there is one, I'd love it if someone could let me know? <3) If there's not one, though, I think it'd be a really good idea to implement one, especially considering how things like the key releases are time-constrained events, and people might have slightly differing clocks.

Ticking clocks are really easy to set up and I'm sure we could find one that matched the site! I think it would be beneficial for more things than room keys, depending on if there are other timed events on the site.

Not to mention, trying to figure out time zone differences is aaactually kind hard for me. I think a Universal one would help clear that up too!

What do you guys think?

He sleeps alone,
He needs no army where he's headed cause he knows
That they're just ghosts
And they can't hurt him if he can't see them
And I don't know
If in the morning I will be here and if so,
Let it be known
That I was worthy,
I was worthy,
I was worthy,
I was..

I think this is actually a good idea, though I think by now everyone got used by working around it. Your computer clock (at least in Windows) is automatically setting itself after some global whatever thing, so when it says the minute is up, then it's up. That's how everyone grabs keys, basically. As for the timezones, I have that problem, too, since I sit in Germany. I solved it by having the Evelon clock display the EST time; since I have my computer clock on German time already I have no problem having the Evelon clock displaying a different one.

But yes, I agree a ticking clock would be very useful. I'm not sure if it's possible, though, since Tick-Tock is the one who set the forum up and all that and doesn't do work on Evelon anymore unless the whole site breaks. Krypto knows programming stuff, but I have no idea if she can do this.

I know my dreams are made of you
Of you and only for you
Your ocean pulls me under
Your voice tears me asunder
Love me before the last petal falls

However cold the wind and rain
I'll be there to ease your pain
However cruel the mirrors of sin
Remember beauty is found within

This is neat but yeah not sure how we would pull it off. I have my account set to my time but I also am aware I am an hour ahead of eastern standard time. Central is an hour behind, mountain is 2 hours behind and pacific is 3 hours behind eastern. Also have used this method to figure out who is on when and what time... say if some one who lives on the west coast says "Hey I am available at... 5 to do ________" I am like. "Alright thats... 9 for me I will (or wont) be available to do that... bla bla bla". So knowing time zones is handy XD and somewhat hard to remember unless you use it a lot.

BUT it would not be a bad thing if we had a universal clock posted in a topic some place XD? I am sure there is some Univeral clock generator out there or even a universal clock webpage we can link.

An issue though that I have encountered was that I can't see what time I posted at until I log out :l;; which is possibly a setting thing.

An alternative method to using your computer's clock is if you have a smart phone that tracks time precisely, you can set an alarm to the key release time and hit post as soon as you hear it go off. That has done wonders for me P=

The front page does show the current time, so I just set it to EST and compare the time it shows to my own current time to get the relative calculations for key release time.
Crossing my heart
Open wide
You're my crystal and clover
All of me
Honestly
Is dedicated to hold you

Swear to God
Double knot
What would you do if I stole you tonight? (Ahh ahh)
Why waste time? (Ahh ahh)

'Cause the world goes on without us
It doesn't matter what we do
All silhouettes with no regrets
When I'm melting into you
'Cause I belong in your arms
I belong in your arms

Slight derailment here:

Going off of what Silverin mentioned, it would be a good idea to have a stickied topic somewhere that you could reply to with your time zone, so if you wanted to get in touch with someone, you would have a fairly reasonable idea whether or not said person is awake/available/what have you.

The King beneath the mountains,
The King of carven stone,
The lord of silver fountains
Shall come into his own!

His crown shall be upholden,
His harp shall be restrung,
His halls shall echo golden
To songs of yore re-sung.

The streams shall run in gladness,
The lakes shall shine and burn,
All sorrow fail and sadness
At the Mountain-king's return!
