Would you be interested in a guide to the basics of Evelon's battle system?

Since a lot of people seem to think the battle system is too confusing to bother with it, would anyone like it if I wrote up a guide to the basics of the system? I know the mods have a lot going on in both real life and Evelon right now, which is why I'm volunteering to do this. I also know that we do have some threads already in place for this purpose, but clearly there's still lots of head scratching going on. Information also seems to be somewhat scattered, which may be contributing to the confusion.

If people are interested, I will make sure to clear the guide with Kodai as I'm writing since she's officially in charge of this stuff. Shieba, if you're reading this, I'm also extending an invitation for you to read over the guide and double check for any mistakes/things that might need clarifying since you're also very familiar with the system. Everyone else is, of course, also welcome to help.

I'm definitely up for reading over the guide, yes. ^^ Still, I firmly believe that the reason people don't bother with the system is more because they think of it as too much of a hassle to count posts and calculate how many bonus points they got from where, picking out Traits and all that stuff. But I definitely believe a guide might help. Though quite honestly... do not depend on me for finding mistakes in the new precision calculation system. It requires way too much calculation for me to understand properly. I mean, I know how it works, but I need 10 minutes to calculate my pet's precision compared to the other pet's speed and stuff because MATH. But other than that, yeah, I'd be totally willing to help when needed.

I probably wouldn't talk much about how the precision system works, just the gist of the precision stat. I think there's some information that isn't absolutely necessary for battlers to know in order to fight normally. It's kinda like the catch rate calculations in Pokemon. There is a concrete formula for your chances of success, but it's so complex that it's much easier to just toss Pokeballs without worrying about it.

Edit: If people think calculating stats bonuses from posts is a hassle, I'd also be willing to open a stat calculation service for free/a really small fee. People wpuld have to pick traits on their own, of course.

Also, a stat calculation service? That sounds really neat! Have fun there, though - when I had to calculate the stats of my pet which was in six RPs at once and had to look at all the time stamps to see where the level-up-post was... yeah, not fun. I think I needed six hours. Offering that for free/a very small fee might end up very frustrating for you.

I'd be happy to help with this as well! I'm kind of flattered that you listed me as one of the "well-known" people who were enthusiastic for the battle system.

With regards to RPs in multiple places, I have to admit that in some cases, I've simply designated one RP as the "level-up" RP and everything else as incidental. It's much easier for me that way, at least.

It's up to you if you want to do that, but I personally think it might not change much.

Typically, putting things in separate topics allows members to take in different information slowly and at their own pace. Putting it in one topic will make for a massive amount of information, which will probably confuse people more as they try to search and find whatever parts confuse them through the massive chunk of text in the single topic.

I think the system is too complicated, personally, and that's why people don't bother. I used to battle, and I did use to care, but not anymore.

I can also suggest to keep things separated, but just to reword them better. And then maybe have one master topic that summarizes every aspect, with a link to specifics for each category.

So first, you explain stats. You briefly describe that they are the elements determining your skills in battle. A hyperlink on the title leads to a topic that describes exactly what stats do and what you need them for.

I think that might help... Again, I still think it's just too much reading and too much hassle. I won't stop you from doing this, at all, but I also don't want you to waste your time. I'm afraid the system is the problem, not our explanation topics.

It... might help.  I really like the idea, though I'd hate for you to put in so much work only for it to not change much.  But I'd certainly be interested in an updated, easier to follow battle and stat guide of sorts. o3o

I recently realized that I have no idea where the thread explaining how battles themselves actually work went That...would be kind of problematic for people who want to learn how to battle, lol. Can someone direct me to where that is?

I personally have never felt overwhelmed by having information all in one thread. I find that going through multiple threads that are all related to the same thing is actually more of a hassle. For instance, right now we have three separate threads related to leveling up: Info on #AP = Level, Info on #Posts = Level, and How to Raise Levels. I don't know if it would necessarily be easier to have all this information in separate posts when they all tie in together. That's just my own preference, though.

If I do make a guide, I'd probably have a table of contents on the first page with links to each of the sections within it. Every post would cover a different aspect of the system. I'm hoping that's enough break down to not overwhelm people. I imagine that if someone is looking for specific information, they can just click the link to whatever section they want.

I always record my pets' posts directly into my pen as I make them, so I've never had any issues with tracking post counts myself. I might miss a post here or there, but to me it's so much easier than figuring out a bunch of their posts all at once. And I don't have to deal with time stamps or anything like that. I'm surprised more people don't use this method, actually o_O
