The forest bed looked like a blood soaked battlefield as I walked across the soft splintering dirt. It wasn't dark, but there was no sun in sight. Only a continuation of almost lifeless trees. Everything here seemed so dull, it was like the forest was draining your every breath leaving you with nothing. Even hope seemed to be lost in this disorienting place. It wasn't fear of death that scared me, or even being alone. It was the thought of never leaving, never being able to see anywhere else. This forest made you walk in circles, even with the best of navigation. Even food seemed to be scarce around these parts. I had to resort to eating the worms I found deep withing the thick moist soil. 'Where am I going?' I kept asking myself. 'My wing is broken and I can not fly, but walking seems to lead my back to the same spot, no matter how far I go...'

"Oh no, whats that?" I ask myself while noticing a scary looking creature walking in the forest. Not sure if I should approach the creature or not. I know its never good to judge someone based on the way they look. Sometimes they could be nice, its just the fear of what if they weren't nice. I was in the tree and it is very unlikely they will see me, as I am a falleef. This is the best place for a falleef to be in, a forest covered in leaves. Gliding to another branch to try to get a closer look at the creature I notice that somethings not right about them. Instead of exposing myself, I decide to camouflage with a pile of leaves on the ground. Then I decide maybe its safe enough for me to speak. "Excuse me?" Is all I say until the creature speaks back.

Out of nowhere came a squeak-like voice. "Who's there?" I questioned. "Show yourself." I continued to demand. Maybe this being could show me the way out- or maybe it could be dinner! Either way I'm determined to face it. For all I know it could be a immortal phantom! Then again, even that doesn't phase me much. I might be flightless at the moment, but I still have very sharp talons that easily act like daggers. "Where are you?" I repeated.

I didn't want to cause trouble, although it was funny how demanding this creature was. I fluttered to the creatures back, then jumped off. Being so tiny, I looked up at it, then fluttered around it. I didn't need to use to much wing muscles. Flying around the creature, curious to see what was wrong with it. "I'm sorry to startle you, but you look interesting and scary to me. You could easily chew me into bits..." I mentioned. Knowing now it was a bird type creature, not as scared as I was. As far as I knew birds didn't eat leaves, I didn't think at least.. Finally stopping in front of the bird and looking at in curiosity, I waited for their reaction.

A leaf fell onto my back and it momentarily spooked me, causing me to flinch away and stare down at what I now perceived to be a strange little creature. "You'tr right, I could chew you to pieces. Are you tasty?" I asked the little talking leaf. At this point of starvation, I could always try leaf. But then again, it didn't look at all like a threat, so perhaps it could lead me out of the forest. "Do you live here?" I asked. But before the little being could respond, I continued, "How do I get out?"

Looking up at the bird, it looked as if he was hurt and hungry. Chuckling at the birds reply.. "I don't think I would be that tasty, I would either be really chewy or extremely crunchy depending on the weather." Responding with lightheartedness. "I live here but I have never gone out of the forest, this is my safe grounds." I sighed. "But hey! That doesn't mean we can't try to find a way out together? Even though I don't know what to expect outside of this forest, I was always curious to see whats out there." I looked at the bird with hopefully eyes. Unfortunately I never had much company in the forest until now.

I glared down at the kind-hearted being.  "Together?" I replied coldly, "Why would I want to travel with you? You don't even know the way out of this forest. You are as stuck as me." Sure, I might be cold-hearted. But being kind never got me anywhere. I find violence and threats get me places. Not being nice to little vulnerable leafs.

After hearing the birds reply, I look down to hide disappointment that will clearly show through my eyes. Finally I gather the courage to let the emotion past. It's probably nothing personal, but it still hurt. "Well even if you don't like me... it's still better then looking by yourself. Two is better then one." I whispered, but hopefully still loud for 'em to hear.

"You might believe that, but if we move in the same direction, it makes no difference if there are two of us or just one. I have all the friends I need." I said as I began walking away. Sometimes I wonder how creatures like that survive in this world. All my life it has been a game of survival of the fittest, and yet some little creature like that seems to survive. Lucky thing has it easy. "Bye little leaf, thanks for nothing." I stated emotionless as I walked away from the mall being.

Watching the bird walk away I decided I would accompany 'em anyways. Flying right in front of his path I started walking myself, as if he wasn't behind me. Humming to myself and not worrying about what was just said. "How long have you been in the woods for?" I asked innocently with curiosity. Wondering how this creature came to be into this wooded area.

The little leaf ignored me completely! God, it's already annoying and I've only just met it. "Don't know, lost track. A month. Maybe longer. Now go away." If this thing keeps following me... I might just eat him.

Seeing the annoyance in the birds face caused made me confused. "I am not trying to annoy you, I am trying to help you. After all aren't you the one injured I am guessing? I at least know this forest. Just because I never been out of it, doesn't mean I don't know where to find water and food for you." I sighed.

My heap peaked up a little at the mention of food. Maybe this leaf isn't that useless after all.
"Fine. If you can lead me to some good food, you can tag alone. But don't underestimate my abilities simply because I'm slightly injured." I never was the best person to make small talk, so I figured it best to at least so a little trust. After all, this leaf might be able to curve my hunger.

I shifted into my human form, "Name's Klaus. What's yours?"

Looking back at the bird with a little bit of hope, maybe we just might be able to find our selves out. I always wanted to travel, but the forest here was like a huge maze. "Well I wouldn't exactly call it good food, but its food. There were berries at my tree that I planted." I explained, not bothering switching form. "My names Piper."

"Berries?" I questioned back. I was hoping for something more like meat, but I guess it'll do.It is after all better than eating worms again. "So, Piper... Don't you have a human form?" I asked as I began following the slowly drifting leaf. "And how did you end up living here anyways?"
