The Neuleef Posse had been blown into the Slums by a random breeze, but they really didn't mind. In their experience, new places, no matter how odd or dirty or strange, meant adventure. They danced about the Annelidrake's ankles as he led them back to his stall, chattering excitedly to each other. "Trick or Treat!" they yelled, using one of the few phrases they'd learned in English. Halloween had been over for a while, but the Neuleefs had found that using the phrase along with their goofy grins still tended to get them random pieces of candy. Or mints. Or cough drops. It all depended on what the little old ladies had in their purses at the time.
The Annelidrake didn't seem inclined to give them any candy, which came as a bit of a disappointment to the Posse, but he did tell them about a raffle. This cheered them up quite a bit. "Prize! Prize! Prize!" they cried, jumping up and down. Giggle-snort actually turned a cartwheel. As they emptied out their tiny pockets to pay the fee, they continued to shout excitedly. "Box! We like box! We winwin good!"
The Calamikuhna sauntered down the alleyway. Or maybe not quite sauntering, considering the disdainful look the right half was casting, while the left seemed to be carrying an attitude looking for trouble - but who would be examining the different sides of the kuhna? No one that was a stranger, and Rail didn't know any of the creatures here. At a sudden hiss, Rail spun around, a red eye flashing angrily as the kuhna faced the leering Annelidrake. The fur on Rail's back slowly flattened as the insect spoke, and the Calamikuhna sniffed at the prize boxes with calculation. When it had turned back to the bug, there was an odd mixture of haughty and daring expressed on it's face.
