Yes yes, the time has finally come. :D We decided a while ago to move off these outdated, rickety and finicky Yahoo servers to a web host that should be a lot better. Now we're finally ready. Big changes, big changes, but for the better.
In addition to the site hopefully being faster and free from "critical errors" and "Error 500s", the forums will be upgraded, which means more features to make you guys' lives easier. How's that sound? 8D Now those who have been here for a while might remember the last time we moved servers, and how much of a pain it was. So, you rightfully wonder, "What do we need to do? Will we lose any posts? Should we make backups of our pens and roleplays and PMs?"
And the answer is: No, you don't have to. In fact, you won't have to do anything at all. At Noon EST on this Tuesday, 12/16 I will be making a backup of these forums. This backup will be used to install the forums on the new server. I will then change landsofevelon.com to point at the new server, so you won't even have to update your bookmarks.
So, as of 12:00 Noon EST on Tuesday, you will no longer be able to post on these forums. I will disable these forums while I am installing the backup onto the new server. It would be pointless to post here after I make the backup anyways, since your posts would be lost in a matter of hours. I will simply disable this forum (with a message), just to prevent that mistake.
After I am done installing the backup on the new server and I am done configuring those forums, I will change the domain landsofevelon.com to point there. This change is not instantaneous all over the world. Some of you will go to landsofevelon.com/forums and see the new forums before others of you will. Those others will still see this version of the forums for a little while. There is not much that can be done about this, unfortunately, it's just the way The Internet works. I will leave instructions here for clearing your computer's DNS cache (which might speed up the process), as well as a link to the irc and contact information for myself, just in case it's been an inordinate amount of time and you're still stuck here. It should not take much longer than 24 hours for the switch to take effect for you, but this time is no guarantee. It'll happen for you when it happens. How can you tell if you're on the new server? You'll be able to. :P Trust me. The new forums are different looking~
I believe that covers everything. :D So to summarise: as of noon EST on this Tuesday, this server's forums will be disabled. You will not lose any posts, PMs, roleplays, pets, settings, postcount, anything. It will all be moved over to the new server.
