3 Sentence Rule, Grammar, Spelling and Punctuation

Postby Tick-Tock » 05/25/2009 5:59 PM

They matter, people. Quite a few of you have been ignoring either the 3 sentence rule, the grammar/spelling rules or both. Please remember that all roleplay posts must have at least 3 on-topic, in-character sentences. Properly punctuated sentences, and with spelling and grammar that look like you at least took time to type out your posts. Make it look like you care, do everyone a favor and make yourself look intelligent when you post. Bad spelling and punctuation makes your post look sloppy and poorly thought out. All it takes is a little care. :)

Posts that aren't in roleplay areas are allowed to be a bit more lax (they don't have to have 3 sentences), but the grammar rules apply everywhere. That means capitals at the beginning of sentences, capitalised names, periods at the ends of sentences, spaces after commas and periods.. do I really have to spell all this out? I'm sorry if you don't like these rules, but you agreed to follow them when you joined the site. Thankee-sais.

I will start to hand out warnings for grammar/spelling/punctuation and/or the 3 sentence rule, so please shape up. You know who you are.

Thanks for posting this. <3

When the lit match hit accelerant, we were just two kids back then. Words were few, we let our bodies do the talking for us both. Those days I felt less counterfeit, trouble hadn’t found me yet. Big city love, never sleeps until the skyline sun turns red.
It was always only you, I’m sorry there’s no proof of that, I’ll try to get back to the days you knew, I always told the truth.
It was always only you...

Well, I can't read all the roleplay posts that get posted on this site. So if you see something you can always report it. :)

Does this totally apply to speech? My characters do not always care how they start their sentences, if it is run-on... I am a grammar fanatic, so in general I will go very far with the grammar rules, but I am also a roll-player, and know about the individuality of speech.
"When you get right down to it, dirt is dirt. Some dirt is better than other dirt, but we all feed off of decay. I'm nothing to anyone else but a good time, so I just do what I can. I'm to low to be a MOUNTAIN."
When I read those words, I wanted to scream out, into the musty pages of the wrinkled book, to become the human and GIVE HER THE WORDS: "All you need is an EARTHQUAKE."

Run-on sentences are fine, as is most grammar.. XD We'd just like it to look neat.

That's cool. I'm a nasty user of massively run-on sentences, but otherwise I like grammer. As for spelling, my internet has SpellCheck in it, and it's not that bad anyhow.
