There had been hardly any time for rest, but Navvi had made the best of it. He had left his flask of poison behind; he had already seen his opponent and a little bit of poison wouldn't lower his defense enough to allow Navvi a better hit. He could have tried for a larger dose of poison, but that would have only injured Navvi himself. Walking back into the arena, he faced a new opponent. Once again, he bowed, before attempting to judge his opponents strengths and weaknesses. Finally, he simply lunged, aiming to nip at his opponents legs and unbalance him so that Navvi could attack again before escaping.

His last battle had ended rather swiftly, which had left the Hunter in an odd state of relief and unease. He was glad that it hadn't ended up being a long, drawn-out struggle, but the fact that his opponent had seemed ill-prepared for the level of this tournament bothered him. The Leader had no wish to fight those that could barely defend themselves, after all. Hopefully his next opponent would be better trained... Walking into the arena, he noticed another Lucain awaiting him. Returning the canine's bow, the Leader dashed forward as well, swiping at him with his claws.

This was good; his first attack had succeeded. Plus, Navvi had been able to evade his opponents claws, which was a good thing as well. Leaping forward quickly, Navvi lunged again. Hopefully he would be able to strike again and still get away before his opponent - he believed the name was Leader - had recovered. One hit was obviously not going to be enough to fell this opponent. But then again, it was better that way for Navvi. What was the fun in fighting against the unskilled and untrained?

Ouch, he wasn't off to a very good start in this battle. The Lucain had managed to hit him while his own claws met only air. At least the bite hadn't hurt very much at all; the only real benefit to having stone for skin was the extra protection it provided. Recovering, the Leader charged at Navvi and swept his claws at him again. Hopefully he wouldn't miss this time – he had a feeling this battle would last long enough without either of them failing to hit their targets.

It was always frustrating for Navvi to miss during a battle. And then his opponent's claws struck Navvi, and his frustration was doubled. The pain in his side stunned him for a moment, but he shook his head to clear it. Facing his opponent once again, he lunged. He had a feeling that without his ability to lunge, he would lose the battle. They were pretty closely matched in endurance at this point, but the other guy seemed to pack a bigger punch. Hopefully, Navvi would be able to evade his attacks.

Ah, his opponent had missed this time, and he had hit! That was always a satisfying occurrence in a battle, but there wasn't much time to relish the feeling. A battle was always moving, and he needed to keep his mind five steps ahead of where he currently was. The Leader was wary of the way his opponent kept launching himself at him, but there wasn't anything he could do except try to dodge and attack in return. Instead of scratching again, he decided to go for a bite this time, aiming for the Lucain's legs like he had done in the first round.

This time, Navvi hit his opponent. The prick from his sharp body wasn't that bad, but the blow that Navvi received next was worse. Apparently, Navvi hadn't moved back quickly enough. He felt the pain of a bite to his legs, and tripped slightly. No time for errors, Navvi, he thought to himself. You have to win this! You have to win, and take the prize money home to Anthos and the kids. Regaining his footing and trying to ignore the stinging in his leg, he lunged once more.

Well, now they'd both hit each other this time. Unfortunately, they still seemed to be pretty evenly matched in terms of strength and endurance. The Leader was convinced by now that the outcome of this battle would depend more on luck than actual skill. Now, which of the two was Lady Luck favoring today? Trying to ignore the ache that was flaring up in his hind leg, he struck out with his claws again. His bite wasn't anything to sneeze at, but his claws were definitely the winner when it came to inflicting damage.

Darn those spikes on his opponent's body! Everytime Navvi got in a good hit, he took some damage himself. His paws were creating bloody footprints, and Navvi was glad that Anthos wasn't here to see this; he probably would have freaked. To make matters worse, Navvi had also been injured by his opponent's attack. For now, they were pretty evenly matched...but that was only because Navvi still had the energy to lunge. When that ran out, he had a feeling that things would take a quick turn for the worse. For him, at least. Unless there were some sort of miracle, he would probably end up losing this battle. For now, though, he'd simply hope for that miracle and lunge again.

This was certainly a draining battle, but they weren't done yet. Retreating back a few steps, the Leader shook himself, sending small specks of both his opponent's and his own clear blood flying. "I must commend you on your fighter's spirit," he called. "Others would have seen this as a futile struggle and retreated." Not that he didn't completely see it as a futile struggle himself, but his honor prevented him from backing down. Rushing in again, the Leader stretched out his claws for another attack.
