Time for that talk (Self)

Element paced back and forth wondering what he should do. He loved Morgaine more than words could describe. When she had first brought him to her underwater castle in the Nodia Sea he was terrified of her. Mostly due to the fact that she was a witch and he assumed that she would eat him at some point because he thought that’s just what witches did. Then when he was told that he was viewed as a “favorite” and brought to her castle just to hang around and keep her company. Even with that knowledge it took him a while to believe that he was not going to be eaten at some point. The only thing that bothered him was that she insisted that if he left castle grounds that she had to accompany him. No ifs or buts about it. He had to know why, but he was afraid to ask. He also wanted to ask what she really felt about him. Through his time that he lived in the palace with her he had grown to truly care for her, even begin to love her. However, he was too afraid to come forward, so he continued to pace up and down the hall in front of Morgaine’s spell room.

Morgaine could hear him outside her spell room, but she had no time for his cowardice, at least not right now. Now she was working finishing a complicated protection spell for a client and took much of her concentration. If she let Element in here her focus would be on him instead and she could botch this spell and her four weeks of work would be ruined.  She went to her basket of plants that she had just collected with her friend Scotch and picked out the lotus root that she needed.  She turned back to her cauldron that contained a bright purple liquid bubbling away inside. It was so tall that she had to use a step stool to reach the rim. She had decided long ago not to waste energy with levitation when one has a good step stool.  Her grimore, however, was another story that was hanging in the air next to her at the perfect height for her to read. She flicked her wrist and the page turned to reveal the spot that she was looking for. “Add the lotus root when the potion has turned purple. Grate into a fine powder into the potion.”  She got down off the stepstool and went to get her grater from the shelf on the side wall. Her grimore followed her as she moved there and back.  As she grated the root the potion turned a lovely turquoise color. “Continue to stew for three nights under the full moon. Harvest on the last day when the moon is at its peak.” She clapped her paws together and sent the grimore back to its hiding place. “Now to just wait.” It was then that a knock announced itself at her door. Well, perhaps Element was getting some courage after all. “Come in, Element.”

Good gods what had he just done. He went and knocked on her door, her spell room door at that. She had invited him in though, no getting out of it now.  He slowly opened the door and peaked his head around the edge of the door. “Hello Morgaine.” He slowly walked into the room. So far he had not come into this room. Not that she had not forbidden access, but he could sense the residual magic in the room and it made him nervous.  It was a medium sized room. Walls lined with shelves filled with jars, tools, and books filling every inch of space. There were a few rich colored ottomans scattered around the room. One large window with a stained glass art piece of the ocean and shells on the top section took up most of the back wall. An equally large window seat was set underneath.  In the center was a huge cauldron with a fire blazing under it. Obviously something was cooking. “I…I was hoping to talk to you about some things. Do you have some time?” He gulped he hoped that he was making the right decision.

"My dear Element I will always make time for you." She sits down on the window seat and pats the spot next to here. "Come sit with me." She figured this could turn into a long conversation. She wondered if maybe this was about his rights on leaving the castle. She supposed that she could let him leave the castle on his own more, but whenever he did she would worry so much. Element is just a mortal after all, and a very nervous one at that. Who knows what could happen if someone tried to hurt him? Morgane sighed deeply and waited to hear what he had to say.

Element took a deep breath in and out. He could do this. Although was about to ask demanding questions of a woman who could kill him in mere seconds he was going to do this. He swallows and walks over to the window seat where Morgane is sitting. He sits down next to her, but not too close mind, just close enough to sit in the same area. "Um... well... you see I was wondering why I'm not allowed to leave the castle grounds on my own."

Oh dear, this question had finally come up. Morgane had figured this would happen, but still wasn't prepared to give out the answer. She runs her paw through her blue hair "You see Element dear, I just think that this way is... safest for you." This was going to turn into some very hurt feelings, maybe she could just erase his memory afterwards. She looks out the window watching some bait fish swim by. She always enjoyed watching the schools of fish swim by. Most predators stayed away so it provided a nice safe zone for many different species of fish.

Element is taken aback at her statement. "Safest?! How can a castle full of poisons and potions be safer than me going out to buy some bread or go visit my friends?" He pauses for a second reviewing his friends list in his head "Well, not including Vincent since he tends to get into trouble." He shakes his head to rid of any other lingering thoughts that may interfere with his point. "The point is still the same, though. I've been able to take care of myself for years, why can't I do that now." He had been taking care of himself just fine... right?

Morgane knew that Element had been doing ok on his own, but he was so timid and meek. Everyone was able to boss his around and get him to do things that he really didn't want to do. She had to protect him from those kinds of people, but of course she would never tell him that. "You have been able to take care of yourself in your own way. However, I think that I can protect you better with my magic skills to make sure that nothing happen to you while we're out and about with other creatures." She wanted to reach out and grab his paw, but she couldn't feel that way about him. Not in this state.

"What would happen to me if I went out on my own? Get struck by lightning, robbed, beaten up. Well, yes any of those things could happen." He stutters a bit as he tries to dig himself out of that nice hole he created in his argument "B...b...but these all have such a low occurrence of happening they're pretty much ignorable." He takes a deep breath out, it was very hard to debate someone. He wasn't liking this at all.

"But what if those things did happen to you?!" Out of instinct she grabs his paws with hers. Realizing what she has done she knew she couldn't ignore her feelings anymore. "What if something happens to you while you are away? What if you get hurt?" Tears begin to well up in her eyes, although she didn't want them there. But this thought of loosing him scared her just that much. "If something happens to you and you become hurt from something I could have prevented, I just don't know what I would do with myself."

Element jumps slightly at her touch and is shocked by what Morgane had just revealed. "Wait... you have feelings for me? I thought that you just found me interesting and kept me around this place as some sort of pet." Suddenly he felt a lot happier. "This is great, because I feel the same way. In fact I've felt this way for a long time now. I really care about you Morgane and I think I may love you."

Morgane slowly took her paws off of Element's. She would have to nip this in bud quickly, before it got too out of hand. "I'm sorry Element, but we can not let this evolve past what we have already." She gets up and begins to busy herself with her shelves. Mostly to give her a reason to not have to look him in the eye. "As much as either of us may want that it can not be. We are just in too different of places for this to work out."

Element stares after Morgane as she fiddles with her shelf. She was back to her cold and aloof self again. Element sighed. He guessed that one small outburst was just a one time occurrence. "Morgane," Element got up off of the window seat as well, but he stayed a good distance away "I guess I just don't understand. How can we be in two different places when I'm here with you right now feeling the same way that you do?" He shuffles he paws against the cold stone floor. "Can't we just be together and see what happens?"

"It doesn't matter what I want now. What matters is what I will need in the future." Morgane sighs and turns to face Element leaning against her ingredients shelf. "Element you are very dear to me and I will never stop feeling that way, but I can't just go about agreeing to be mates with or even entertain the thought of that possibility with out certain prerequisites being met."

"Prerequisites?" Element was very confused. Morgane had said that she cared for him, and of course he felt the same way. So what's the big problem with them going out. Then the thought came to him in an instant. "Is this because I'm not a magical creature? I understand that you love your craft, but should that stop you from doing other things or being with others that could make you just as happy?"
