Melody of the Arctic

Postby Jaden Wolf » 09/03/2012 6:57 PM

There are voices all around you...
To comfort and to guide you...
Fathers and teachers...
Powerful creatures...
And a voice that sings inside you...~

The haunting voice ran through the empty amphitheater, heard only by a gruff janitor that seemed entranced by the sound. On the stage, a woman sat on a lone rock, looking so beautiful that any who saw her might have been able to actually believe that the lights were on and the place was packed. Yet, there was no one. Just the old man, and the woman, who stood and gracefully walked to the edge of the stage. Looking out over the rows of seats, the woman seemed lost in thought as a stray breeze tugged a strand of her wavy bright blue hair free from its perfect ponytail. With a sigh, she turned and walked to the back to exit.
You can pretend that when you hear my voice, darling, it's your choice not to fall in.

But it's all an act, 'cause I know exactly what you're wanting. You know it's what I'm wanting

Boy I know what you desire, oh, you're such a bad, bad liar

This could be perfection, or venom dripping in your mouth

Singing like a Siren, love me while your wrists are bound

The walls will tumble,
The walls will tumble,
But I'm not going to cry...
My heart won't crumble,
My heart won't crumble,
Should we ever say goodbye.

The woman now stood in front of an almost empty cafe. The remaining customers and staff stared at her in awe, entranced by the song they'd just heard. A note of sadness had appeared in her voice as she sang and her eyes reflected this as she stared wordlessly at the storefront. Absentmindedly, she fingered a note-shaped bead hanging from her neck, and with a blink of her turquoise eyes, the woman turned to leave. Behind her, a waitress watched sadly, seeming to be familiar with the woman's presence.
You can pretend that when you hear my voice, darling, it's your choice not to fall in.

But it's all an act, 'cause I know exactly what you're wanting. You know it's what I'm wanting

Sasayakana jikan wa (the short times)
Shizukani nakareyuku (are passing quietly)
Kizukanakatta keredo (even though I didn't notice)
Haru wa sokoni kiteita (spring has come).

The woman walked with natural elegance through a small park, the birds fluttering above her and trilling in tune with her voice. The occasional passersby just stood and stared at her as she passed, lost in her own thoughts. Even the animals seemed entranced by her presence. She paused for a moment at a cherry tree in bloom, and gave a faint sad smile as she wind carried the falling petals and placed them lovingly in her hair and on her clothes. Not bothering to brush off her elegant tunic, she continued to walk as the trees showered her in sheets of soft pink.
You can pretend that when you hear my voice, darling, it's your choice not to fall in.

But it's all an act, 'cause I know exactly what you're wanting. You know it's what I'm wanting

When will I ever find a place to call my home?
Sadness and lonliness; a falcon in the sky...
When will I ever find a way to speak my heart,
To someone who knows,
What it is to be alone...?

The woman soon found herself among a field of blooming flowers, hidden amongst the bustle of the city. Various colors rippled in the breeze, bright and cheerful. Walking carefully among them, the woman began to dance as she sang, the movements as ever graceful as they always were. A small girl across the field watched in wonder, paused in her act of flower-picking. By the time the woman reached the last note, a single tear fell from the child's eyes. Not noticing her young audience, the woman closed her eyes and faced the breeze, letting it pass over her softly. Before long, she continued on her way.
You can pretend that when you hear my voice, darling, it's your choice not to fall in.

But it's all an act, 'cause I know exactly what you're wanting. You know it's what I'm wanting

Anna ni issho datta no ni (We were so close together)
Yuugure wa mou chigau iro (But the twilight has a different color now)
Semete kono tsukiakari no shita de (Please give us a quiet sleep under the moonlight)
Shizuka na nemuri wo (if it's possible)

The woman stared at the sunset from the cliff path she stood on, looking out over the city. The sun streaked with reds and purples, casting the few clouds into an unusual hue. Her voice seemed to echo in the silence, making a couple nod off at a bench nearby. The woman's eyes had watered up again and her voice had a tremble to it, making the song sound even more beautiful and sadder. Closing her eyes, she stood there in silence for a moment before turning and walking away.

When there's no getting over that rainbow,
When the smallest of dreams won't come true,
I can take on the madness to want life again,
But I won't last a day without you.

The woman walked down the path as the darkness of dusk settled around her. Her voice seemed loud in the silence and not even the leaves seemed to want to disturb her. She didn't even seem to realize she was still singing. Lost in thought, she hardly noticed when the area got so dark, she couldn't see a foot in front of her. In the midst of the darkness, her eyes began to water again. Shaking them away, she looked around and headed for the nearest source of light.

Lookin' back on how it was
In years gone by...
And the good times that I had...
Makes today seem rather sad.
So much has changed.

Standing at the edge of the lamplight, the woman looked up at the stars. The sadness in her voice matched only by the sadness on her face. Somewhere in the distance, an animal's searching cry seemed to echo her pain. With a sigh, she turned to the darkness. Hesitatingly at first, she stepped towards the abyss. Eventually, she mustered up enough courage to wander into that darkness.
You can pretend that when you hear my voice, darling, it's your choice not to fall in.

I want you back in my life again
Let's go back to the place where it all began
I've lived long enough with your memory
Now I know that I want you, know that I need you
Back in my life...

Feeling her way through the darkness, she picked up her speed to a more desperate pace. Her song likewise matched, keening for something she once lost. Before long, she came upon a fence, black, cold and sharp. She never thought she'd be here again. Pausing to touch the metal with a shudder, she began to follow it. The air around her seemed to thicken, only the stars lighting her path for her. On the other side of the fence, the darkness seemed thicker, impenetrable.
You can pretend that when you hear my voice, darling, it's your choice not to fall in.

But it's all an act, 'cause I know exactly what you're wanting. You know it's what I'm wanting

Boy I know what you desire, oh, you're such a bad, bad liar

What lies in the future is a mystery to us all
No one can predict the wheel of fortune as it falls
There may come a time when I will see that I've been wrong
But for now this is my song.
And it's goodbye to love.

The woman's hand eventually hit the gate and she worked it open, quietly passing through. Slowly, her feet fell into line, taking her along a path she knew so well, she didn't need to see. In the darkness, stones passed like ghosts, just as ancient and just as forgotten. Before long, she knelt in front of a black slab, her finger tracing the name carved into its smooth surface. Opening her mouth, she sang, the words sounding eerie and haunted as it echoed off the gravestones.

After many hours of just sitting there in front of the grave, the woman called Aurora looked up at the lightening sky. After a moment of thinking, she stood and brushed off her clothes. Reaching out, she touched the stone one last time, her fingers lingering a moment before falling away. Turning, she walked away and didn't look back.

When she came upon the open gate, she passed through and shut it behind her. When the latch clicked shut, she stood there for a moment longer before starting to sing softly.

After long enough of being alone
Everyone must face their share of loneliness
In my own time nobody knew
The pain I was going through
And waiting was all my heart could do.

Hope was all I had until you came
Maybe you can't see how much you mean to me
You were the dawn breaking the night
The promise of morning light
Filling the world surrounding me
When I held you...

Baby, Baby
Feels like maybe things will be all right
Baby, Baby
Your love's made me
Free as a song singing forever.

Only yesterday when I was sad
And I was lonely
You showed me the way to leave
The past and all its tears behind me
Tomorrow may be even brighter than today
Since I threw my sadness away.

Her voice raised in volume as she turned to face the sunrise. The notes rang in the air even after she finished. Only then, did she allow herself to cry.
