“We’re running out of time! We need to get this thing moving!”
There seemed to be a muffled jabbering of concern and agreement about that statement from around the buildings corner, just out of sight. The day was bright and beautiful—making the stonework of the city gleam brilliantly. Even in the city outskirts there was a great deal of grand buildings and statues, as well as shopping options. A short distance away was the Auction House—still being cleaned from the most recent auction.
“Father’s day is almost here,” the original voice continued, “And we weren’t exactly here in time for mother’s day…so we have to make up for that one too!”
The youngest of the quad of Obi and Nakira offspring was in the lead, as usual, looking his rather flamboyant self. Behind him was Kyrie, looking at least at home with the city. Her fur glistened brightly, looking much more pampered than her siblings. However, her face held no trace of superior feelings.
“Do you…really think it’s a good idea to get Mom a Father’s Day gift, Atlee?” She questioned, looking at all the store windows they were passing. Golf clubs, polo shirts, cologne…certainly nothing their mother or father would take much interest in.
“Of course not, that’s why we’re doing it.”
The sarcasm bit through the air like a rusted knife. Even with the brightest pelt, Madeline managed to have the darkest of moods. Kyrie winced, giving a concerned glance back at her sister. Always so sour… Her gaze continued to fall back to the last pup—and first born.
His messenger bag held closely to his body, Xander was almost tip-toeing his way through the outside. It was paved, sure…but all sort of strange things happened outside of your own home. Like muggings…or a super villain attack. He knew because he had written about several such events in his own comics. Mostly of the super villain attacks. Never about Father’s Day shopping.
“I’m coming!” He said, oblivious to what was happening ahead of him other than his eldest sister was staring at him.
Atlee only shook his head.
“With all of you, we’re never going to find anything good. Maybe we should split up and continue the search. Meet back…oh…how about…”
“How about Aloha Summit? I’ve heard great things about their food.” Kyrie chimed in. An assortment of expressions fell onto the faces of her siblings.
“Exotic.” Madeline chided, breaking off from the group and heading towards a rougher looking part of town that seemed to contain rather gothic stores. Atlee shrugged, but his unsure face held true.
“Sure, sis. See ya then!” Atlee continued straight—towards the heart of the city. He had heard there were a great deal of live acts located around there somewhere. Kyrie smiled and shook her head, looking to Xander.
“Well, I’m sticking to the outskirts. The most unique gifts are always where you would look last. What about you?”
“I’ll…uh…figure it out. See you later, Ky.” Xander looked back to the sad looking Auction House—the “New Auction” sign half torn down and fluttering in the mild breeze. He pulled out his sketchpad and began sketching it. He’d have plenty of time to find gifts—scenes like this had to be captured.
