“We’re running out of time! We need to get this thing moving!”

There seemed to be a muffled jabbering of concern and agreement about that statement from around the buildings corner, just out of sight. The day was bright and beautiful—making the stonework of the city gleam brilliantly. Even in the city outskirts there was a great deal of grand buildings and statues, as well as shopping options. A short distance away was the Auction House—still being cleaned from the most recent auction.

“Father’s day is almost here,” the original voice continued, “And we weren’t exactly here in time for mother’s day…so we have to make up for that one too!”

Image

The youngest of the quad of Obi and Nakira offspring was in the lead, as usual, looking his rather flamboyant self. Behind him was Kyrie, looking at least at home with the city. Her fur glistened brightly, looking much more pampered than her siblings. However, her face held no trace of superior feelings.

Image

“Do you…really think it’s a good idea to get Mom a Father’s Day gift, Atlee?” She questioned, looking at all the store windows they were passing. Golf clubs, polo shirts, cologne…certainly nothing their mother or father would take much interest in.

“Of course not, that’s why we’re doing it.”

Image

The sarcasm bit through the air like a rusted knife. Even with the brightest pelt, Madeline managed to have the darkest of moods. Kyrie winced, giving a concerned glance back at her sister. Always so sour… Her gaze continued to fall back to the last pup—and first born.

Image

His messenger bag held closely to his body, Xander was almost tip-toeing his way through the outside. It was paved, sure…but all sort of strange things happened outside of your own home. Like muggings…or a super villain attack. He knew because he had written about several such events in his own comics. Mostly of the super villain attacks. Never about Father’s Day shopping.

“I’m coming!” He said, oblivious to what was happening ahead of him other than his eldest sister was staring at him.

Atlee only shook his head.

“With all of you, we’re never going to find anything good. Maybe we should split up and continue the search. Meet back…oh…how about…”

“How about Aloha Summit? I’ve heard great things about their food.” Kyrie chimed in. An assortment of expressions fell onto the faces of her siblings.

“Exotic.” Madeline chided, breaking off from the group and heading towards a rougher looking part of town that seemed to contain rather gothic stores. Atlee shrugged, but his unsure face held true.

“Sure, sis. See ya then!” Atlee continued straight—towards the heart of the city. He had heard there were a great deal of live acts located around there somewhere. Kyrie smiled and shook her head, looking to Xander.

“Well, I’m sticking to the outskirts. The most unique gifts are always where you would look last. What about you?”

“I’ll…uh…figure it out. See you later, Ky.” Xander looked back to the sad looking Auction House—the “New Auction” sign half torn down and fluttering in the mild breeze. He pulled out his sketchpad and began sketching it. He’d have plenty of time to find gifts—scenes like this had to be captured.
"I have been hidden, scorned, adored, worshiped, forsaken, coveted and banished more times than I care to count. But the one thing all those experiences cannot steal from me is the gentle soul I was born with, the kind heart I have molded, and the bright ideals for the future that have lit my way through the darkness of the past."

~*~*~Poppi~*~*~

Climbing through the bush in the outskirts of town, Poppi stepped back in awe. "Wow." She murmured staring at the large glittering skyscrapers that were taller then the small clouds skirting by. Blinking a few times she cascaded down the edge of the hill, her feet catching on a rock, lurching her entire body forward thus making her tumble the rest of the way down the hill. Rolling to a stop, and feeling very woozy, Poppi crouched down for a moment, letting her head stop spinning. Though she was normally graceful, she did have some bad luck. Even though she enjoyed the rush, it had not helped her at all. She had been travelling all day and was desperately in need of a nap, something to eat and maybe a nice drink. Slumping herself up on a rock, she stretched her sore legs out, feeling a few sockets pop. Shivering comfortably, she stood up and shook off her pelt.

Poppi had never seen a place so huge before, even the voices of people echoed around her when she began walking through the labyrinth of stores and statues. She gazed at the sparkling shop of wind chimes and glass works with a twinkle in her eyes. "Pretty~" She gushed, putting her paw on the window. An angry human flicked the window and pointed to the sign in the window which clearly read, No Touching The Windows. She smiled and left, leaving the man with a flick of her tail.

She saw a lone lucain padding along the central area of the great town; his head was inclined towards the large buildings. Smiling at the chance to meet a new friend, plus with what an odd pelt too just like her, Poppi sped up her pace to catch up with the male. She slowed down a little, her face falling at the memory of the last time she met a male in a strange place. Puckering her lips she decided that unfortunate luck couldn't follow her here.

"Hi," She greeted happily, "My name is Poppi. Where are you headed?" This was her greeting to just about everyone, even if they were grumpy or four months old. She gazed at the male with her dark gold eyes.

((There will be a posting order that comes about once everyone has had a chance to post. Until then, I’m replying to each post in turn to keep things moving so I can get to a project of mine quickly.))

The heart of the city was within reach for Atlee, his eyes shone brightly and a song spun it’s cheerful melody in his head and over his vocal cords as he hummed it softly. It was perfectly find with him that he had split up with his siblings—a first real test of individuality. To make matters better, what a more wonderful way to show your individualism than in the form of a gift?

His head was swimming with ideas for his mother, but for his father he was falling short. That was a very unfortunate thing, considering the gift was really supposed to be for his father. He mused this for a moment before a voice drew his thoughts to the present.

“Oh?” He called, whirling his head around to try and pinpoint the exact location of the call. She, and it was a she judging by the extra tail he and his brother lacked, was not hard to find. Shimmering blue pelt dotted with lilac and pastel yellow. She was a far cry different from the shining white stones.

“Poppi, huh?” He said, not quite sure how to feel about the very open and abrupt greeting. “Atlee…” He responded, chuckling at her seemingly rushed greeting.

“I’m, uh, headed towards the inner city. The best known shops are at.” He looked her over quickly, noticing she looked a little ruffed up like someone who had been hiking. “I…can’t even begin to guess where you’re headed. Care to fill me in?”

((Okay, so I can post, right? xD *ish burnt today*))

Poppi sauntered next to him; her mood was very light even though she hadn't slept in over 32 hours. "Atlee, nice to met you." She replied happily. Her gaze was divided when she saw a twirling statue with water dancing through it. It was a dancer sprawled out in the air, her limbs oddly shaped and she was balancing on one toe, her head cocked back as if screaming. "Ohhh..." Poppi mused silently, the water bouncing in between the long arms and legs of the statue as it moved.

"Hey, that's cool. What're you shopping for? My friend once told me that gifts are meaningless unless they are desired or wanted, but I saw different. I think gifts symbolize that you care about one another." She hinted at her ability to see the future. Although she didn't like to refer to her 'power' like that -it just sounded too hokey to her! - she did believe it was effective.

Poppi smiled at Atlee, "Well, I was heading over to my home but it's all the way over in Dead Coast...And I've already come so far." She sighed, looking up at the sky with an exasperated look on her face, "I've come all the way from the Slums! Oh, pardon me for being so abruptly rude like that!" Her face fell a little when she sensed something was new about the male. Like he really hadn't experienced anything out of the ordinary. "I guess, currently, I'm just following you. I might be able to pick up a few curios for my new stage that I am planning on building." Her eyes raked across the grand city again, they were filled with wonder.

Atlee kept his pace, though found himself adopting the step-pattern that Poppi had. She certainly was a lively one! His smile fell a little more easily over his face as he was now the one keeping up with her quick steps. The statue that captured her attention wasn’t as interesting to Atlee—make it do more than just twirl and his interest would have been peeked. Though, he reminded himself, it was a nice art piece.

“My brother, sisters and I are out Father’s Day shopping. We just happen to be looking for something for our mother as well, since we weren’t exactly around for that day.” He hinted his young and inexperienced age, though did not seem to catch onto Poppi’s hint. His mind was whirling with possibilities and now, about this lovely lady at his side.

His ears flickered back to the back of his head for a slip second when hearing the distance she had been traveling. “You’ve got to be tired…are you sure you don’t need a break or something?” He knew the maps of Evelon and just how long it took to make it from Slums to Dead Coast. But how then, he wondered, did she end up way over here?

“You’re a little off course, aren’t you? What brings you to Aldrect if you were originally headed home?”

He chuckled a little when she said she was now following him. A bit of an ego boost for the younger male—out and about for the first time and chicks were already following him. He didn't see that happening to Xander--dad would have been so proud right now. But that did not grasp his attention quite like the mention of a stage.

“Stage?” He repeated rather enthusiastically. “A stage for what, may I ask?”

The other half of the sign wasn't too far away, held under the paws of a Lucain near the main platform. Its bounty gone, the platform stood deserted and empty. The lines of chairs below it lie disheveled in their rows.

Image

One such chair held the female Lucain. Her tails flopped listlessly out of the back of it, one paw tossed over the splat. In the other, faintly stirring in her lap, lay the sign. The look she gave the empty platform was one of utter mourning. The female seemed unable to stop looking at it - in fact, she looked like she had been a participant herself, judging the bulging back of Keystones that still hung about her neck. It was conceivable that she had never actually left the vicinity after the auction's end.

And despite herself, she had to admit that she hadn't, going no farther than Aldrect's borders for the last week and some. It had been difficult for her to accept that one would ever offer up such a spectacle of mail and magnificent circuitry. What it could have been under her paws! But it was even harder to accept that she would have to search for yet another masterwork... Ianthe looked again at the sign, her muzzle upturned in petulance.

The banner waved slowly, causing Xander to partially stick out his tongue to try to remember it’s point of origin. He couldn’t, after all, do much to show a moving banner. It would look like a scribbled up mess. Then the wind gave a helpful gust and pulled the banner completely from the ground and into the air.

The action grabbed his attention, but not as much as what it revealed. Someone, or something, was still occupying the chairs of the abandoned auction house.

In awe, Xander ripped up the page without looking and drew another quick sketch: flash in the air, little boxes to be made into chairs later, and right there slightly left of the center…there was a question mark. Closing his book and sliding it back into his pack he got up and began walking.

He looked quite mindless as he walked, truth be told. Slack mouthed and bedazzled. The idea that something was still there—now that could be an exciting story! Was it dead? Was it just leftovers someone had left behind? As he approached he could make out the wingblades of the softest purple hue he could imagine, the pelt of white, misted lilac and sun-kissed golden orange, and the….three tails.

The look on his face fell—now only a row or so behind Ianthe. He…was approaching a girl. All the alarms in his head went off and he turned to flee. There was, however, one problem with his plan. He had paid no attention to how he had gotten there. AS he turned he instantly met a metal chair and the two went crashing backwards into the next row—causing the most awful clatter.

Poppi gazed around excitedly, she had never been in such a large city before, it was almost disorienting. Smiling widely, little dimples arising from her cheeks, she chuckled, "Ah, you are rather young then aren't you." She stopped herself from going into another long winded speech about how being young is awesome. Twirling around once, a smooth little spin, she paused her light hearted 'dancing', cocking her head to the right. It had been awhile since she stopped to rest...Which was never good for her. Especially when her brain decided randomly for her to sleep. Yawning she shook her head so that the wave of sleepiness stopped, "Hmmm, a break would be nice...But I was hoping on catching a show in the amphitheatre, I heard it's spectacular!" She mused happily.

"I'm not exactly sure, well I guess I am but...It's a little hard to explain. Like way off base to what you probably think." Poppi said the 'way' with a long drawl. But she smiled anyway, "I've got an idea! Since you need to get a gift for your mom and dad..." She began, a twinkle in her eye, "Then we can go shopping so that I can get some supplies, we could eat something then to take a break and then, if you wanted, you could come with me to watch a show~" Her tone was rather excited, she hadn't had a fun day for a long while since she's been traveling so much by herself.

She perked up too when he brought the stage up, "I'm a little bit of a nut for drama so I'm making a personal goal that I will build a stage over in Dead Coast so that people can..." She trailed off, not knowing if she could pull it off what with her little money and her expertise on the arts of dancing, singing and acting. "I'm not exactly sure if I can do it but, I want to at least try! I mean if I do finish it...it'll at least be pretty to look at." Her tails wagged excitedly.

Atlee rose an eyebrow to this twirling, dancing, …whatever she was doing girl and grinned. She was a little like…well, like his internal feelings about this place. There was something about the city that made life seem theatrical. He supposed it was the general lack of caring and attachment by the masses to individuals or small groups that made each conversation stand out like’s it own play. “The ampitheatre is somewhere my mother and I have always planned to go—when the right show is playing. Mother is very picky about what she chooses to watch.”

He chuckled, watching her yawn and shake herself back awake. Well, what harm could it do to not make a stranger rest? Worst that could happen was that she might sleep through the show she wanted to watch, he supposed. Besides, after her proposition, she seemed to have forgotten her tired state altogether. He grinned widely, lashing his tails behind him and striking a playful (but still manly, mind you) pose. “I would be honored to be the escort of the day for a lovely lady of the theatre.”

He added a mild accent of undetermined origin to this, grinning the whole time. Hey, it accomplished his goal—and when else would he have a chance to escape his siblings long enough to watch a show? Madeline would certainly have way more fun ruining his day with Poppi than she would watching a show, Xander and Kyrie…who knew what they’d do. Probably smile and pretend to know what was happening.

“Dead Coast, huh? You could do some spectacular night shows there is you timed them just right with the sunsets—I heard it’s a lovely place at twilight.” He couldn’t blame her for wanting to try, at least. “Even if it doesn’t get off the ground, I’m sure you could always sell the location to someone and make double your money back. How showbiz seems to work.”

((Sorry for the double post--having Madeline make a quick exit since she's needed elsewhere.))

Madeline had spent a better part of the day cruising around the dark, seedy parts of the typically pristine city…only to find that she was both more miserable than usual and not finding anything. Ahola Summit—what a bunch of losers she was related to.

Off in the distance, she could see the shadows of the cathedrals that had once stood tall and proud. Now that was somewhere she’d like to go.

Looking once over her shoulder, she shifted into her human form to be less easily spotted and slunk off towards her new destination.

{Madeline-2}{Exit Post}
EDIT: ((Pulling Kyrie out as well))

The eldest daughter wasn't having much luck either. With a small sigh, she glanced down at her phone as it buzzed for the fifth time. Her agents--again. What she needed was a vacation. And perhaps that's exactly what she would take today to have.
