.:Evelonian Religion:.

Postby Kodai » 06/09/2013 11:38 PM

The Holy Triumvirate is the most common religion in Evelon. There are other religions that could be considered offshoots, though, and it isn't uncommon for people to join sects that revere one god over the other two.

HOLY TRIUMVIRATE
All beings associated with the Holy Triumvirate reside in a place called the Heavenly Vaults.

Gods: Zuhai, of Creation (birth and life). Yepha, of Wisdom. Xai're, of Death and Progress (machinery).

Seraphim: Iiylumiel, of Amnesty and Remembrance, under Zuhai. Nyssldriel, of Purity, under Yepha. Baal, of The Lost, under Xai're. There are many other Seraphim, but these three are especially notable.

Demi-Gods: Sa'ouna, the Winds of Discovery, under Yepha. Ithina, the Divine Scholar of the Vaults, under Yepha. Selkat'aris, Keeper of the Silence, under Zuhai. Xilat'l, Clockwork Beast of Tuat (Unit 001740), under Xai're. Taxat, Sumpter of Difference (Unit 3923112), under Xai're.

Colorations: The Cursed coloration is associated with Baal (the Seraph). The Temple coloration is associated with Iiylumiel. The Clockwork coloration is associated with Xai're. The Dreamsnare coloration is associated with Nyssldriel.

Species: The Nemuwit is associated with Yepha. The Tainted Nemuwit and Mekkayena are associated with Xai're. The Iiylumiel (pet) is associated with Iiylumiel (the Seraph).

Symbols: The gods do have their own symbols. Baal hasn't actually decided on what Zu'hai's or Yepha's symbols look like exactly, but she has done Xai're's.
Xai're's Symbol
(Xai're's symbol doesn't include the brackets.)
In addition to the gods having their own symbols, the Holy Triumvirate has its own symbol as well~ If you look at the previous picture, you'll see a smaller symbol in the upper left corner consisting of a tiny circle, a larger half circle, and three lines. That's the symbol of the Holy Triumvirate religion.
...There is another symbol I can show you that attempts to incorporate elements of all three gods (even though she didn't decide on the form of Zu'hai's and Yepha's symbols, Baal does have elements she wants in them).
Kodai's Symbol
The wavy lines around the eye relate to Zu'hai (as he is strongly connected to water, and thus the flowing lines represent that), the angular lines underneath relate to Yepha (I... don't remember why; this was done a while ago), and the arrows and shell-like lines relate to Xai're (you can see those in his symbol representing attack and defense, respectively).

Rituals: "In the older times, I know they would have people bathe in what was thought to be 'cleansed' water. But uh, yeah, that doesn't fly too well anymore."
"A lot of higher classed colleges in Evelon also name them or honor Yepha when they're founded."

Joining the Church: You don't really need to do much to join the Holy Triumvirate religion. Joining is pretty much stepping into a church and listening to a sermon (though obviously there's a difference between listening and believing). However: "In Xai's religion though, his sect. A few of the churches won't let you in though unless you've had a family member or someone close die. "Because you haven't understood the true meaning of our lord.""

Misc.: Tacos are the symbol of carnal sin. (Yes, really.)

Basantha Shrine
Basantha Shrine's description. Of the marble statues, the order is Zuhai, Yepha, and Xai're. Of the rooms, the order is Iiylumiel, Nyssldriel, and Baal.

In the early days of Evelon, back when it was still a part of the Hidden Crossroads, Baal started a public RP concerning the Shrine. The basic sequence of events is thus: Various people and pets arrived at the Shrine (including myself, Kaibutsu, the Hollowheart, and Baal). A symbol began mysteriously glowing on the wall. One of the present monks noticed Kaibutsu, approached him, and asked him to press his heart-symbol against the wall's symbol. Upon doing so, a portal opened to another section of the Shrine. The roleplayers thus gathered entered this portal, finding Iiylumiel there. Having been awokened, Iiylumiel questioned the people and pets as to their reason for being here. Suddenly, Nyssldriel broke through the wall and attacked Iiylumiel. Both were destroyed in the fight. The previously mentioned monk was attacked by one of the pets and was found to be a robot. Everyone vacated the room in time to escape the collapse of both the room and the portal.

Some time later, I created my own private roleplay (which Baal was involved in) in order to give Kaibutsu closure for the occurrences. This story went as follows: Kaibutsu traveled to the Shrine and found entry into the room where Iiylumiel had been found. Under Iiylumiel's skull, he and the few other pets that had decided to accompany him found a strange Kuhna, which drew out the Hunters. A short stand-off and chase ensued, with the Hunters seeking to destroy the strange Kuhna. All parties made it out to the main front room of the Shrine, where the imp Kree met them. An exchange was agreed upon; however, the appearance of a strange Lucain made things difficult for the imp. Eventually, Kree possessed Kaibutsu and one of his companions, which resulted in Kaibutsu forcefully driving the imp out by means of major bodily injury. At that point, Assyriel, the Lord of Hollowhearts, entered the Shrine and, seeing Kaibutsu, demanded justice for his crimes. Kaibutsu assented and was killed by Assyriel. However, after an encounter with Iiylumiel in the spiritual world which left him without sight, Kaibutsu was sent back, at which point he was able to fulfill his initial task of granting Iiylumiel and Nyssldriel a ceremonial burial.
Attached to this RP was a short additional RP that concerned Kaibutsu's encounter with Iiylumiel and Kodai's encounter with Nyssldriel, which resulted in the release of Sa'ouna.

Lya Pointa Cathedral
Another important area, though perhaps in a more private way, as it does not directly concern the gods themselves. I will, however, direct you to the RP between Baal and myself that took place here, for perhaps you may gain some information from it.

Stolen in the Night

The Fallen Seraphim
An important story concerning Iiylumiel, Nyssldriel, and Baal, and how they came to be Fallen Seraphim. In short, Baal and Iiylumiel fell in love, which is forbidden for Seraphim. Nyssldriel, who was Iiylumiel's friend, eventually discovered this secret and betrayed his friend by revealing it. All three were cast out of the Vaults - Baal and Iiylumiel for their forbidden emotions, and Nyssldriel for his betrayal.
This private RP between Baal and myself may give you some additional information.

The War
The forum-based war between the Imperials and Purines was brought about by the Imperial's search for the Maiden's Tear. This rumored stone was said to have been one of the tears shed by Yepha when she saw the helplessness of the first creations and imparted the knowledge needed to survive. The leaders of the Imperials, General Axion Demorial and his companion Lucain General Sanroc, sought this artifact for its connection to the gods.
Here is the complete story of this war.

The Story of the War

The Story of the Seraphim
As told to Shrewdie and myself in the IRC, as Shrewdie asked and I was likewise interested.

Okay so the Seraphim, first came into being when Zu'hai tapped into the Waters of Life and from it (and thus, himself) he fashioned the first of the seraphim. At first, they did not have wings, since the Gods didn't need them but to aid them around the Vaults. The world of Evelon was empty at this time.
Then Zuhai made the humans and creatures, which simply existed upon the world with no purpose. Because they could not hurt, could not die, they were complacent and did nothing. They did not interact. They were flawed.
Because they were farther from the Vaults, they were not like angels. Zuhai had made them with the same Water of LIfe but also mixed in the mudof the earth to create these physical beings. Thus, because the water was 'tainted' they could not directly hear the gods as the seraphim did.
But because they were made from the mud of the world, the humans and creatures could live better on the world than seraphim could.~ Zu'hai wasn't bothered by thi fact though and in fact wanted them to enjoy the earth. However, because there was no motivation, the humans simply existed. So one day, Xai're came from his shadowy kingdom and asked for some Water of life, so that he may fashion his own angels. In return, he offered a solution to end the stagnation upon the world. Pain. And death. And so Zu'hai accepted, and watched as Xai're fulfilled his end of the deal. The first Tragedy upon the world came about when the first child of the 'new' human race was stillborn.
So humans grew to know suffering. However, while Xai're was in the world of the Physical, he was still carrying the waters of life with him, on his person. Because of the close proximity of the water to this new emotion... suffering... it grew tainted. But Xai're did not know this. So he returned to the Vaults after his deed was done and began to fashion angels from his own body. He took metal shards from his wings and arms and legs and fused them with the water, which became his own brigade of death angels. Ther official name for this brgiade is called the Mortis Wings. Very few use this title anymore though. I'll explain later. o 3o;
These angels were obviously closer to Xai're than any other gods, and so did his bidding, collecting the souls of the dead and leading them to 'vaults' made to hold the spirits until they passed into true oblivion. He found that if the souls of the dead lingered too long upon the world, it made the living sicker, more prone to distress and anxiety. He didn't want the world to suffer more than it had to, and so kept these souls in regulation.
So life went on and the humans progressed, trying to fight death ad survive. Since Xai're is also God of Progression, he waws doing his job well. Eventually, locked away in his kingdom of shadow, he grew curious of the planes around them. He appeared within Yepha's castle once and asked her for information regarding the other planes, if they existed. She admitted that for once, she too was stumped. Sister to Zu'hai, she could only know things that were fashioned from Zu'hai's creations. She also knew partly of Xai're's creations but foretellings of him were fainter than that ofhis brother.
So Xai're decided to 'poke around' as it were, in the realms beyond. He had a small army of seraphim assembled, and though Zu'hai was skeptical about this, proceeded to try and find 'rifts' into other planes.
So eventually, they found a rift and entered. It was a new rift that seemed to be somewhat close to Evelon as well, almost as close as the Vaults... if not closer. The angels stormed the rift and found a newly thriving race. It was a terrible race that seemed almost a mockery of Zu'hai's creations. Angered at this discovery, at the fact that this race dare try and resemble that of his brother's making, Xai're allowed his army to attack.
Though the race was primitive and Chaotic (hence the name... Chaos), they fought back well enough to drive the seraphim out. They suffered many losses though, their villages burned and children destroye. Many did not survive...
Since we're talking about angels, I'll go down that path. XD; Of the Mortis Wings that stormed the Chaos Realm, as it was called now, were the two angels Iiylumiel and Nyssyldriel. Tese two had brought something home from the Chaos realm that... baffled the God of Death.
(...Those two? O .o I thought they served Zuhai and Yepha, respectively?)
(... OH. That's true. o Do! I know they went. I guess Xai borrowed some of his sibling's angels too. Only those that showed resolve enough to fit in his army at that time.)
The two angels presented a being that looked.. alot like a Mortis Wing. It was feminine in form but looked very much like one of their creations rather than the huge hulking beasts that were the Chaos. This baffled all three Gods when then came to came upon her. Xai're however, could not repress the... curiosity he had for something that looked like one of their's.
So the two gods allowed Xai're to keep this seraphim, which was in a constant state of a coma. For years, he could not awaken this angel, and found that she was... hollow of sorts. So Xai're introduced the waters of life, after years of curious experimentation (though not as cruel as it sounded).
And so the angel awoke. She did not talk at first, but the first thing she saw... was Xai're. And she knew this was her calling of sorts. No questions asked, it was if she'd been alive before. She seved loyally, and after a few tests, Xai're found her allegiance unshakable.
So she learned the routine of 'soul-guiding', and did her job well. However, unlike many of the other angels... she approached her God one day... and asked for something else. She was... unhappy with her job and asked to have more duties. Xai're, intrigued by this 'quirk', allowed her to work with Zu'hai and Yepha's tasks as well. And so she did that, aiding in tasks that the other gods needed.
This was how she met Iiylumiel and Nyssyldriel again, and they told her of their relationship with her. She didn't know of this but found that she enjoyed thir company because of this. :3
At this time as well... There was a Mortis Wing that served as Xai're's second in command, was a feminine angel named Alu'avina. Because of her closeness to Xai're, and her unwavering loyalty to him, Xai're bestowed upon her the ability to take the form of a raven.
So technically, under Xai're, she was leader of the Mortis Wings. However, upon the introduction of this.. outsider angel, Baal.. or Bael, at the time, Alu grew to know... jealousy. She did not have the quirks of Bael, that so interested Xai're and felt that she was falling out of his favor.
So one day... she plotted to dispose of the foreign angel, by setting them up. Her job was to report appearances of Chaos in the realm of humans (since by now, the Mortis Wings were also now soldiers used to police the Chaos forces that invaded), and so gathered a small team of Mortis Wings.
Though they were skeptical at this new assignment, they listened to her since she was Xai're's 2nd. It seems their job was to go to the human realm and introduce more pain and death within a village. This would ultimately draw a lot of Chaos towards this spot, since they were found to be drawn towards death and espair of humans for some reason.
This town was known as Lya Pointa. When the angels arrived and began to 'influence' the people there, because they did not have the skills of Xai're to introduce suffering, they began to drive the townsfolk insane. The humans were driven mad and began to commit heinous crimes, so the angels fled in terror, afraid of the wrath of Xai're.
And so, seeing that Chaos were beginning to gather there in that town, Alu'avina reported this to the Gods and they grew worried about the size of the Chaos invasion there. So they sent their best warriors, these being Bael, Nyss, and Iiy.
So the angels went to dispatch the Chaos but were quickly overwhelmed. Because the Gods were still new at combatting the Chaos. their own angelic forces were already spread thin. The three angels fought hard but were slowly losing.
However, when Bael was struck down...Iiylumiel found himself... motivated to try harder. Through working together, he found he.. felt something for this angel... and thus put his all into defeating the Chaos as best he could. Eventually, after a last push, they defeated the Chaos but had to flee. This town seemed terribly susceptible for Chaos to keep coming into the world.
The seraphim who had caused all of this, eventually discovered that they had almost killed a comrade, and one broke down, reporting this act directly to Xai're.
Xai're grew angry with Alu'avina and ordered her punishment for he was not a forgiving god at this time. Alu'avina's own ravens flocked around her and tore her to pieces, engulfing every portion of her bloodied remains as she screamed to her dying breath.
Xai're then ordered the termination of each and every raven, to which the ravens overheard and began to flee for their lives. They scattered and the Mortis Wings gave chase. Xai're also ordered the 'grounding' of those who served Alu's betrayal. By this, he ordered the erasure of their current memories but were allowed to continue to serve him afterwards.
So thus Alu'avina's group were literally wiped out. And life went on... until Bael and Iiylumiel decided that they felt... love.
And so it was not Xai're who found this and punished them, but Zu'hai. Who banished them to Basantha.
