A very strange place indeed, this Shrine to the Holy Triumvirate is nestled within the icy peaks of the Fe'gan Mountains. You will find the warmth of spirituality here, together with works of great sculptural design based on the Holy Triumvirate religion. (+2 Fame)

Return to Basantha Shrine

Destiny is a thing, it seems. [P]

"Night?" the lone voice called in the silence. The word echoed through the vast halls and chambers, the sparse candles flickering ominously. A lone figure walked down one such hall, looking around her awkwardly as lost people often do. Somehow, Dawn had gotten separated from her sister, and despite all her childhood lessons about staying put, she was trying to find her way back. Yet somehow, she just managed to get herself even deeper into the shrine than she thought possible.
Who even knew this place was so big? she thought absently with a sigh. At this point, she felt like she should probably just give up trying to find her way back. Maybe, if she wasn't actually looking for the way out, she would just happen to stumble across it?

It might be wishful thinking perhaps, but that's what Dawn specialized in. She was not the type of person one would generally find walking around the deserted floors of an old, creepy temple. In fact, she couldn't quite recall why the two of them had come here in the first place. Though, it was probably her insisting on exploring someplace new. Night probably brought her here because...well, what kind of horrible thing could happen in an old temple? Dawn giggled to herself. Getting hopelessly lost in a ginormous labyrinth with no food or water was kind of a horrible thing, wasn't it? It seemed all of Night's cautious planning had gone to waste.
You can pretend that when you hear my voice, darling, it's your choice not to fall in.

But it's all an act, 'cause I know exactly what you're wanting. You know it's what I'm wanting

Boy I know what you desire, oh, you're such a bad, bad liar

This could be perfection, or venom dripping in your mouth

Singing like a Siren, love me while your wrists are bound

The halls were dark - the last candle was about three feet behind her. This...didn't seem to be the way out. Yet, against all reason, Dawn kept walking.

This was why she was always getting lost.
Honestly, Dawn.

For some steps more, Dawn pondered why these halls even existed. Didn't seem very reasonable to make a place so much bigger than could be inhabited. Yet here she was, in a giant room that was so massive that her footsteps echoed away into the darkness. Every now and then, a pillar would enter her narrowing range of vision.
In fact, the room eventually became so dark that she didn't see the next pillar until she'd almost walked into it. Stopping with the rough stone only inches from her face, Dawn frowned. Resting her hand softly on it, she stepped around and peered uselessly into the pitch black.

It seemed kind of strange for the room to be so...empty. She could hear no other living thing, and she could sense no dead ones. By the way, she could sense spirits. Anyway, Dawn feared little, so she just sighed and pressed forward with a hand raised slightly ahead of her hips. At least she wouldn't be having any more close calls with pillars.

After a while, Dawn felt her hand brush another pillar. Resting her hand on it, she stopped and sighed. A little too late, she thought perhaps it'd be a good idea to turn and go back the way she came. It couldn't be too hard, could it? Yet...she could swear there was a glow up ahead. Either that or her desperate eyes were playing tricks on her.

The more she looked, the more certain she was that the light was actually there. Determined, she set out for it, cautiously feeling for the next pillar. After however many steps later, she realized she was seeing moonlight. Where it was coming from, she had no idea. She was far more concerned about the fact that she and Night had entered the shrine in the morning.

As in, the entire day had gone by.
Man, Night was going to be mad.

As Dawn approached the soft, pale light, the hair on the back of her neck rose. A little voice in the back of her mind whispered that she wasn't alone. Freezing in her tracks, she looked around uselessly into the darkness. She could still hear nothing moving, and was certain that there was nothing dead around, but still that voice whispered and her skin began to crawl. Trusting her body's sense of danger, Dawn sprinted for the light. There seemed to be no figures between her and the light, so she was pretty sure she wouldn't run into a pillar. Hopefully.

Just as she was thinking that, the light suddenly disappeared. She skidded to a stop. It was almost impossible, how fast the light had disappeared. As though something massive had moved ahead of her, but there was no edge to the figure, no way of actually seeing what it was. Of course, it was an assumption that it was a living thing at all. The little voice in her head was screaming now, but there was nowhere to run.

What she couldn't fathom, logically, is what could possibly be in front of her. She still sensed nothing, heard nothing, saw nothing. Her feet on the ground was the only thing to reassure her now, her only anchor to reality with all this sensory deprivation.
