Be it to the north or south, Basantha is characterized by harsh climates most Lambastians prefer not to trek. To the north are the frigid Fe'gan Mountains, Lambastia's highest and coldest peaks. Further south you'll encounter the arid expanse of the Wilt'no Desert, where most life only comes out during the night. Travelers find little escape to the west, even though the Tuun Mountains aren't quite as harsh.

Oliver could feel his heart catch for a moment at the corners of Leo's smile, a faint thrill running through him with the knowledge it was directed at him. He hid his pleased grin, looking down at the table. He pulled one of the cardboard coasters towards him, spinning in between his fingers to expend his nervous energy.

"Still not talking to you, huh? I figured she'd have been over it by now." Granted, what little he'd been able to glean about Leo's sister from their admittedly brief interaction didn't really lend itself to a forgiving personality.

The priest sat back, the vinyl of the seat creaking. He couldn't say he had expected to have the question turned back on him, though he supposed he should have. "Well, the church has given us some time off for the holidays after... well, everything." Oliver had been happy for the recovery window, but he had to admit that the lack of anything to focus on was starting to make him stir crazy. He shot a grateful smile at their waitress when his drink was deposited in front of him.

"It's been alright I guess. Everyone else seems to be glad for the down time. I'm just ready to move on to the next thing I guess." If it meant he didn't have to be alone with his thoughts, he'd take it. "That's kind of stupid, though, isn't it? To miss being in some kind of mortal peril all the time?" Oliver laughed, running a hand over the back of his neck self consciously. "At least it was something to do, rather than listen to Jay go on about this new chick he met in a bar somewhere."

He gave it a week, tops.

Oliver hesitated for a moment, caught up in unwrapping his straw and then using it to swirl around his eggnog as a distraction. "Did you have any big plans for the night? I hope I'm not like, interrupting."

Null was about to ask The Professor about potentially teleporting him out of the party, just like in the dream he had, (was that even a dream?  He was asleep but he also had a strange feeling that the Professor truly had been there and just messing with him. Again.), however after a blink it seemed that Winter disappeared again.   Oh come on.. Of course he goes and uses his weird pseudo-teleportation thing right when I want to open my mouth to ask for help.  Old man probably did it on purpose too.  Bastard.

After grumbling to himself, he realized with a sinking feeling that he was hungry. He looked at the cookies with disdain.  No, he wasn't hungry for them.  He was an affectivore, after all.  Raw emotion was his true sustenance.  He forced himself to stand with a grunt and went to look for someone who was unhappy enough to feed off of.  It seemed that, despite the happy go lucky holiday atmosphere, there were plenty of mopey souls skulking about.  Null took comfort in the fact that he wasn't the only one.

The party went on, and new people were there every time Elizabeth showed up with Pipsqueak. On this day when she returned, she had a pair of earmuffs on her feathered companion along with the scarf. She also brought with her a box of her homemade cookies. She figured the host was sharing so much, perhaps she could give back a little. After all, everyone who showed up got a prize for that day. She found room on the table to sit the box, and took the lid off, carefully sitting it beneath the box. Then she went to pick out a piece of pie and some eggnog.

And I was runnin' far away
Would I run off the world someday?
Nobody knows
Nobody knows, and
I was dancing in the rain
I felt alive and I can't complain

Unlike the other staff member who wasn't very pleased with their change in apparel because of the party, Faceless was all too happy to add another mask to their ever growing collection. A mask with carved wooden antlers was certainty neat! And, although it was mostly white, it was painted with red and green paint, to give it deer-like features. Sure, they could have gone and borrowed a face from someone, instead of wearing a mask, but, well, it would have been odd to look like someone else that was attending the party.

Most of their time was spent posing for pictures with children, or other guests, but mostly children, whom also seemed to find their mask interesting. And, thus, looking after the children that were also attending the party sort of became their pseudo job assignment.

Breath in, breath out. Breath in, breath out. Her hands tightly clutched at the scarf around her neck as Mailia stood outside for a while. Hale hasn't been able to make it, but she was told there might be something limited edition available, so she needed to try. Just a quick in and out. Once she got whatever they were giving out she could leave.

Finally, she stepped through the doors. Sadly, the amount of people was just took much, and she walked back out. Better luck tomorrow maybe?

Hadya skipped across the street, avoiding people's steps as she went, and entered the tavern. She waved a very hardy hello to the Quest Master and skipped on in. Today, she was still wearing the hat and short cape, but she had put her lilac hair into a bun. A little more of a distinguished look for the day. Dad would be proud of her, even though it was such a trivial little thing.

She passed a note along to the Quest Master or whoever was in charge of all this, stating that she was to collect the day's prize. Afterwards, she set about finding a perch and people watching. Some of the people here were so gloomy though. She wished she knew what to do for them.

Just as Steed had suspected, Albany did indeed find his useless attempt at avoiding her amusing. She merely stood there next to him, tilting her head with a faint smile as he started to speak. Before he'd even gotten halfway through what he was saying, her eyes had tracked off to someone else who was passing by. It wasn't clear that she'd even been listening until a heartbeat after he'd finished, when she finally looked back. "Or perhaps you are more surprised that you are in a place where I happen to be?" she asked with a light smile and what I swear was a faint glint in her eye. Honestly, at this point, was she just messing with him?

She looked him over (or at least that's what it seemed like) during his attempt at conversation. "I have not," she answered, unusually direct. It seemed as though Albany were about to reach out to a passing waitress when a small giftbox appeared in front of her. Only a small raise of her eyebrows showed any indication of surprise. Then, a small twitch of her head, as though she were listening to something, and she turned with a faint smile. The young woman passing at that moment was startled at being turned to so suddenly. Picking up the box, Albany held it out to her. "You were looking for this, perhaps?" she asked. Dawn's eyes widened, and then she beamed. "Yeah! Thanks so much!" she chirped, taking the box and nodding to both Albany and Steed before disappearing toward the door.
You can pretend that when you hear my voice, darling, it's your choice not to fall in.

But it's all an act, 'cause I know exactly what you're wanting. You know it's what I'm wanting

Boy I know what you desire, oh, you're such a bad, bad liar

This could be perfection, or venom dripping in your mouth

Singing like a Siren, love me while your wrists are bound

In an amazing string of coincidences, there was still one more person from the Can World at the Evelon Advent Calendar. (But not a fifth. That would be just weird.) And he helped balance out the scales, for, like Marion, he was actually glad to be there. He wasn't exactly bubbling over with Christmas spirit, but he wasn't the sort to show his emotions so evidently. But there was a warm smile on his face, and his eyes crinkled at the corners when he saw the happy faces of (most) everyone else there.

In fact, he almost came more to see others happy than for treats himself. But he wouldn't say no to them! Especially since coming to Evelon, he'd begun to partake in the tradition of advent calendars himself! And the one he'd bought this year had disappointingly bad chocolate...

I'm so cool (too bad I'm a loser).
I'm so smart (too bad I can't get anything figured out)!
I'm so brave (too bad I'm a baby).
I'm so fly
That's probably why it feels just like I'm falling for the first time!

I'm so green (it's really amazing).
I'm so clean (too bad I can't get all the dirt off of me)!
I'm so sane (It's driving me crazy)!
It's so strange
I can't believe I'm falling for the first time!

Christmas was one of Geyser's favorite times of year. Snow was fun to play in, everyone baked delicious cookies to eat, there were pretty lights everywhere, and most of all, he could get free stuff! So naturally, when he heard about the Advent Calendar going on, he eagerly went to check it out.

When he walked into the bar, his jaw dropped at the fancifully decorated wall with giant presents adorning it. Giddy with excitement, he went to find the Quest Master and pointed at the calendar. "Hi Quest Master!" he said. "Could I have today's present?"

It had been years since he'd last ventured forth, and despite his poor health, Myst was standing in line waiting his turn for the advent event. Wearing a bulky coat helped keep him warm which was less strain on his heart, but nothing could stop the bone pain in his leg. Sighing miserably, he decided he'd come this far, he might as well wait it out. Once he received the prize for the day, he could go home. And next time, he'd know better than to come stand in the cold.

How..  Long has he been here?  Null realized that time..  Seemed to be passing oddly in this place.  He was happy to have some money in his pocket for once, but..  Did that mean he had been here for more than a day?  Was Winter messing with his perception of reality again?  Ugh.  Before he was awakened and sentient, time seemed to pass slowly.  Perhaps it was the short life-span he possessed back when he was a pure Bleeder.

He sniffed the air, trying to push aside the smell of sweets and spices for what he was really looking for:  Emotion.  Specifically negative emotions.  He's since learned to separate himself from the emotions he ate, even becoming much happier after consuming them.  It also seemed to make other people happier.  Sometimes.  Other times it kind of numbed them.  Whoops.

Oh.  Oh what was that.  He sensed some mega-negativity over there.  Enough to fill him up for days.  There.  A man that seemed to be talking some blonde kid.  Oh goodness, he was just seething with negative energy.  Null felt a bit of his signature pink drool pooling at the side of his lips as his eyes darkened, his original beast nature being tempted.  No.  He would stay in control.  But he would definitely feed from the sidelines.

He found a seat within eye shot of the man, and focused on absorbing the delicious negativity he was giving off.  It was strong enough that Null hadn't even had to go to close to him.  He barely even noticed when a woman jumped in to do whatever it was she was planning to do.  He supposed she was trying to protect the blonde boy that seemed pretty nervous around the larger man.  Whatever.  Hopefully the intrusion would make the guy angrier.

It would appear that Atlas had found his second wind, as the party attending the festivities at the tavern numbered two today, the Tali leading as the little Phyrette bound along at his side. It seemed the latter of the two had practiced a bit more restraint the last night, and wasn't anywhere as lethartic as the Tali had been after his first real night of revelry. Either that, or maybe the little mammal just had a faster metabolism. Either way, both members of the party seemed in high spirits as they made their way to the tavern, clearly ready for another night of (hopefully better moderated) celebration.

As they made their way through the welcoming doors, greeting the Quest Master merrily as they went, they split off in their own separate ways, each having found their particular favorite snack offered at the party. At least when they came in a pair, there would always be someone to haul the other person home should they go a little overboard (not to mention the gift they were both anticipating bringing back with them as well). They both knew well that these celebrations wouldn't go on forever, and fully intended to make the most of the festivities while they were around.

Leo laughed easily. "You don't know what she's like. When we were kids, I ruined a shirt she liked by accident, and she threw one of my textbooks into the toilet." At the time, he'd been horrified, but it had been long enough now that it was just a funny story. And now that he was older, there were certain things he'd brave his sister's ire for. Like fishing her out of a demon cult.

He raised his brows at the mention of Jay, shifting to lean on his other hand instead. He hadn't known that about Oliver's brother. Jay hadn't seemed the type, at least not as Leo knew him. During their time together, Jay had mostly been preoccupied with concern over Oliver. But it wasn't really his place to say anything, much less judge, considering what Vivi was like.

At the mention of other plans, however, Leo's smile tightened, and his shoulders fell ever so slightly. "No," he said, his tone still light, but there was an artificial note to it now. "Vivi's ignoring me, and our mother cancelled anyway, so... It's just me. Leo wasn't the type to feel lonely, but Christmas had always been a family holiday for him. With nothing else to occupy him, it had been impossible to ignore the vacant feeling that had been building in his chest over the past few days. "Actually... I'm glad you showed up," he said quietly.

"Well," Cyril began, looking a little more irked at Cody's rambling than before. "What about that boy? Zane, was it?" Cyril smiled slightly when Cody visibly tensed. "I assume you two are getting along well?"

Cody felt a cold sweat come over him, echoes of that evening's fight ringing loud and raucous in his head. Cody didn't know what had come over him--Zane was only trying to help, and he'd... well, he was just thankful that neither of them had gotten cut on the plate that Cody had dropped (thrown? Now he couldn't remember) and even then Zane had tried to stop him from leaving on his walk, tried to talk to him--Cody felt hot tears well in his eyes, but he hurriedly blinked them away to speak--

And suddenly, there was a woman blocking his line of sight towards Cyril. "E-eh?" he asked softly in response to her question, eyes watery but expression startled. He craned his neck to glance at Cyril, who's hostility seemed to be carefully curtained behind a mask of placid calmness towards the newcomer.

"Miss, please don't misunderstand. Cody here is an old friend of mine--we were just catching up," Cyril murmured, then tensed suddenly, his eyes darting every which way. What was that... strange feeling... was someone else watching him, too? He tried to shrug it off, and continued with his previous composure. "He does seem jittery tonight, doesn't he?" He dropped his voice low. "Usually when that happens, I try to pretend nothing is wrong. It helps him quite a bit..."

Cody's throat was tight, anxiety creeping up into his chest. In a small fit of panic, he grabbed the woman's sleeve, trying to convey 'he's lying' with his eyes. "U-um," he managed to squeak out. "I just--r-really need to know where this place is. A-an address would be amazing..." He needed to tell Zane. Then apologize, later. Then help clean up the kitchen floor. Then... maybe... start looking into therapy, like Zane had suggested awhile back. Dahlia... it was a pretty name, and her demeanor relaxed Cody somewhat. Even so, Cyril's piercing gaze was locked on him, now, before the little beast atop her head distracted Cyril with a growl.

[Claiming Day 9!]

But there will come a time
You'll see, with no more tears
And love will not break your heart
But dismiss your fears
Get over your hill and see
What you find there
With grace in your heart
And flowers in your hair

"Tomorrow will be a good day."

Wow, what a place this was. That weirdo had dropped a note for her to pass by and check this place out. Something about the place being full of holiday cheer, including some good old alcohol for the grown-ups. That sure sounded like something right up her alley. Going out in this weather, though, was just no fun. The idiot had insisted, though; something about this place handing out prizes on the daily, too? She hadn't paid much attention to him, admittedly.

"Yo, yo, yo!" she greeted as she approached the counter, her eyes trailed off to check out what kind of drinks they had here. "Y'all sure do love you some Christmas, huh?" she pointed out, her voice carrying a weird accent of sorts — or maybe just a weird vernacular? It was hard to tell. "You got some of them lil' trinkets to give out too? Don't mind if I do!"
