Be it to the north or south, Basantha is characterized by harsh climates most Lambastians prefer not to trek. To the north are the frigid Fe'gan Mountains, Lambastia's highest and coldest peaks. Further south you'll encounter the arid expanse of the Wilt'no Desert, where most life only comes out during the night. Travelers find little escape to the west, even though the Tuun Mountains aren't quite as harsh.

I can't believe they talked me into this...

Ace looked around, Rebel at her side. She saw the looming figure of the volcano a long way in front of her, still not believing what Rocky and Saber had put her up to. They had told her to go to the volcano, to explore it and tell them what it was like. The didn't have the protection of a pet, so they didn't dare go, and Ace had told them not to come along with her. Rebel looked at Ace, a small whining sound coming from his throat.
"Calm down; we're gonna be fine. Maybe we can meet up with someone else. That'd made it a lot easier,"Ace told him. Rebel nodded back, and waited for Ace to begin walking. She did, and Rebel followed. Ace didn't know what would await them at the volcano, but was convinced that whatever it was, they could handle it.

Ace and Rebel had been traveling for nearly an hour, and had stopped to eat. Rebel was eating a large apple, and Ace a couple of raspberries. Ace finished up, leaning her back against a tree and waiting for Rebel to eat his meal. Rebel finished, digging a shallow hole and burying the core of the apple. Ace pushed herself from the tree, brushing her shirt off and walking foreword a few paces. She waited for Rebel, who quickly followed, and set off again.
"Gonna take a while, huh?"Ace said, looking up again at the large figure of the volcano ahead of them. Rebel nodded in response, quickening his pace just as Ace did. "Well, we'd better hurry, then,"she added, hoping to be there before nightfall.

Ace looked down at Rebel.
"You look a little nervous,"she commented. The reply came from Rebel as a small whine, then a growl to show that he would be brave and take on the challenge. Ace smirked happily. "Good old Rebel,"she said. Rebel smiled, keeping his steady pace.  His wings were tucked tightly against his back, the wind ruffling his feathers slightly. "Hey, Rebel, think you could fly up and tell me if anyone else is around?"Ace asked, having looked down at her pet's wings. Rebel nodded, spreading his wings and flapping until he was above the trees. He saw no one. He alighted back on the ground, tucking his wings back onto his back. He shook his head. "Well, maybe someone will be there when we get to the volcano,"she said. Rebel nodded in return, and the two began walking again.

Rebel had been getting thirsty, and luckily enough there was a small pond in their path. Ace stopped, taking a handful or two of water and drinking it, while Rebel lapped it up greedily.
"Think we're going to hurt or hug Rocky and Saber when we get back?"Ace asked as soon as she'd finished drinking. Rebel shrugged, not as nervous as before but still a bit anxious. "It could swing either way, you're right, I guess,"Ace said. "Well, we're almost there."She walked on, Rebel taking a few more laps of water then rushing to join her.

Ace glanced up, seeing the volcano's base closer than ever.
"Just a little longer!"she called to Rebel, who was a few paces behind her. Rebel made a slight, bark-sounding noise, showing his nervousness but also his willingness to explore this area. Ace speeded up, Rebel following her lead, until she was near the base of the volcano. The two stared up at it, examining the sight. They both seemed a bit more nervous now, but at the same time more excited to be exploring this place. Ace looked around, hoping to see more people. She really didn't want to go up there with just Rebel; not that she didn't trust him, just she would rather have safety in numbers.
