Variety seems to be the style of the western region of Desuna. Much of the south is exceptionally flat and has aptly been named the Vast Plains, as the land seems to roll out endlessly. If you reach the northern ends of the plains though, trees begin to appear, growing larger and thicker until you're surrounded by the Roraldi forest. Trees get more sparse toward the north, unable to grow in the surrounding permafrost.

Omega

Omega paced the platform restlessly. He had an urge to explore, but there seemed to be nobody around to accompany him tonight. The Werecain was only of moderate size, not as large as many others of his kind, which was the reason he hadn't felt like he really belonged in his pack, and the reason he had left. He glanced up at the sky, and stared at the bright stars. There were too many to count, and the sky was so vast, yet he felt he could see it all from this platform. There was nothing else to do yet, so he waited and observed the stars, hoping that someone else might come along to join him.

Sygray

Sygray was lying in the grass, contemplating his coloring. Tigerlike stripes and skull and crossbones were on the back of his wings. It was his first time being outside all alone and he quite liked it. Nobody poking him, yelling or asking him to give him a ride. The world was nice and quiet, the grass was smooth and cool underneath his belly and Sygray was quite content.

After dozing off a bit, a smell came across his nose on a breeze. "Hm?" He grunted and opened one eye. It had a slight wild smell to it and against his better judgement, Sygray got up and began to follow the scent. Before long, he was staring at the back of a glacial Werecain. Sygray backed up a few paces, since some animals don't like surprises, and just kind of stood there, not knowing if he should announce himself or not.

Omega, who had heard the footsteps behind him, turned around slowly, but  curiously. Seeing the Hollow Sygriff, the Werecain was even more curious. It wasn't often that he came in contact with species other than Werecain, probably because of the size of most of his kind. "'Lo. I'm Omega." the Glacial Werecain said. "What your name?"

When the Glacial Werecain turned to look at him, Sygray cautiously took a step back. The blue scythe-like blades that stuck out from the Werecain's arms intimidated him and wasn't sure how the Werecain was going to react.

Sygray relaxed a bit when the Werecain merely introduced itself. "M'name's Sygray," replied Sygray. "Are you here with anyone?" The Sygriff looked around a bit, looking to see if there was anyone around, but couldn't spot anyone.

LYTHAN

The odd pair walked along the bridge, taking in all the sights and scenes - one of them, a Yonyou, walked with alertness, ears erect, muzzle scrunched up as he sniffed the air, eyes darting to and fro. The other, a young woman with a large rabbit beanie drooped lopsidedly over her eyes, munched on an apple, not even noticing as great splendors passed. She paused, adjusted her beanie only to have it fall down again, and continued. "There," growled the Yonyou named Lythan  abruptly, his metallic fur stiffening. "Voices." The two stopped, though the girl - her name was Isa - continued to eat noisily. "Oh, pish posh, Lythan," said the girl nonchalantly. "I'm sure they're good people." She walked on with an upbeat rhythm in her step, though Lythan proceeded much more hesitantly. When Isa approached them all - a boy with his Werecain and a random Sygriff - she rose her hand, grinned, and said, "'Ello, there. What're you folks doing here?"

The Werecain, Omega, turned to look at the girl and the Yonyou. Grinning slightly, he replied in answer to her question, "Was watching stars, waiting for friend. Then I meet Sygray." When he said the Sygriff's name, Omega looked back at Sygray with another grin. Then he asked the newcomers, "What your names?"

"Her name is Isa," said Lythan, stopping his comrade from saying anything stupid. "My name is Lythan." Isa flashed a brief peace-sign, finished her apple, and promptly swallowed the core. "We're just travelin'," the girl said, wiping her hands on her jeans. She grinned and waved at the Sygriff, once again adjusting her floppy cream-yellow hat. "D'you guys have any destination you want to go to?"

Hearing a munching sound, Sygray turnd to see a Clockwork Yonyuu and an eccentric looking girl walking beside it. Letting Omega answer the questions, Sygray decided that Omega was nice one, despite his intimidating look. Sygray returned Omega's smile.

Looking at the girl, Lythan, he couldn't quite make up his mind about her. 'Perhaps a hippie?' This time Sygray answered the question. "I don't, I just came here to get away from home. Not sure about Omega."

"Oh. Well..." Isa said, rubbing her chin thoughtfully. "I was thinking of going to...Wilt'no Desert." There was a loud cry from Lythan. "Wilt'no Desert? Do you really think we'd survive there?" Isa shrugged. "I just heard it, and I thought it sounded nice." There was an exasperated sigh from Lythan, while Isa ignored him and foraged among her pockets for another apple. She had a craving for sweets, but she had - unwisely - purchased nothing but apples at their last town. She claimed that she wanted to make a pie, despite lacking any dough or sugar or way of cooking it with.

Omega clarified his reason for being here. "I leave pack. Pack... think I too different. They say 'Omega too small' and 'Omega no good hunter.' So I leave, seek new pack. I travel long time to get here." Somehow the Werecain felt they would understand, even though they had just met.

Then, he realized Isa had said something about a desert. "Desert? Hot sand place?" he asked, wondering if that was a good place to go. "Omega not like heat." he finally admitted, saying it somewhat hesitantly because he didn't really want to spoil the fun of a journey.

"Oh yeah, deserts are a little warm..." Isa said, finding another apple and biting into the crunchy flesh. Lythan rolled his eyes. "Eh, well." Isa said, scratching at her chin. "Really? You're small?" Isa asked, peering curiously at Omega. "You're bigger than Lythan, that's for sure," she laughed, patting Lythan's head adoringly. Lythan closed his eyes and pictured his happy place. Isa took another munch out of her apple, oblivious to Lythan's discomfort.

Sygray understood Omega's story. Outcasted by differences. Wasn't that how the world liked to work? "I think I'll have to agree with Omega on not liking heat. I'd rather go to the mountains." Sygray continued to size up Isa and Lythan. Isa, was very eccentric and outgoing, while Lythan hadn't spoken a word, but appeared to be very embarrassed. Perhaps the Yonyuu couldn't speak?

"Ooh! Mountains! Goodie!" Isa cried, clapping her hands together (resulting in getting apple juice all over her palms and fingers). "How 'bout that, Lythan? Mountains! See the world!" Lythan stared back at her. "Well...I suppose that'd be okay...but do you know any place with mountains?" he asked, rubbing dust from his muzzle with a paw. "Yeah - that one volcano place. We can go to the top and roast marshmallows up there or something!" Isa grinned dreamily. Lythan sighed. Isa knew nothing about the dangers of volcanoes. You certainly just couldn't 'roast marshmallows' there.

"Well, we'd better head off before it gets too dark," Isa grinned, flashing a parting peace-sign. Lythan nodded and murmured, "Farewell." The two departed, leaving only an apple core in their wake.

Sygray watched as the two left and looking back at the silent werecain, he muttered a farewell, "Uh, well I'd better get going also. It seems my human wanted me back before tomorrow. So I'm off, see you 'round?"

Without waiting for an answer, Sygray flew off, letting the winds carry him back to where he came from.

Baird arrived at the platform, seeing a lone Werecain. He looked at this strange creature with a bit of curiosity before speaking,
Hello there. Are you waiting for someone? asked Baird using his usual telepathic mind-speach. He had seen other creatures leave the platform, some in groups, some alone, and some with humans, whom Baird assumed to be their masters. He flapped his stone wings a bit, shaking his head a bit as well.
Maponos

"I had a dream, which was not all a dream.
The bright sun was extinguish'd, and the stars
Did wander darkling in the eternal space,
Rayless, and pathless, and the icy earth
Swung blind and blackening in the moonless air;
Morn came and went--and came, and brought no day,
And men forgot their passions in the dread
Of this their desolation; and all hearts
Were chill'd into a selfish prayer for light"
-Darkness, a poem by George Gordon (Lord) Byron (1788-1824)
