With temperatures rising over 143°C (289.40°F) in most areas, the only relief is during the nights when it is much cooler. All travelers are advised to keep to the local towns on the desert's outskirts and avoid traveling too far from civilization. (+3 Endurance, +2 Defense)

Return to Wilt'no Desert

[* Old and New [P]

It was a typical day in the Wilt'no Desert. The sand burned anyone reckless enough to walk barefooted, and the sun shone down mercilessly on the merchants in the little town. It was so hot that one could sometimes imagine people and items suddenly rippling in waves. That heat was typical for the habitants of Wilt'no, but it certainly wasn't very bearable for visitors.

The stranger sighed and rubbed an arm over his forehead. He'd worked outside in the garden with a strong sun overhead, but it was nothing compared to this spectacular heat. His teal eyes blinked slowly as he tried to fight the tiredness away. The trip had been long, and this heat was draining his energy fast. Not only that... this town looked like it had no technology at all. But if anything, he hoped the inns around here — if there were any — knew about air conditioners. If not, he would probably need to turn back. This heat was absolutely terrible.

He took a look around, trying to take his mind off the heat. Merchants selling things like carpets and urns, but nothing that really caught his attention. Within this seemingly backwards town, he felt like a fish right out of water. That is... if there were any water around here.
A lot of people were also visiting this town, it seemed, since many people were wearing those generic white hats, sunglasses, and thin jackets with palm trees all over them. The boy made a curious face at them, tilting his head slightly to the side. A little spark of amusement surfaced when he noticed one pair of tourists had a camera. With a grin, the boy allowed himself a little fun. Something that looked like a grid flashed within his teal eyes for a moment, before the tourist's camera suddenly went off on its own. Click! The item took a sudden picture on its own, leaving its owners baffled and the surprised merchant rather displeased.

But, the fun had to be cut short. Still tired and hot, the boy continued ahead, even if slowly. He had to find an inn, really.

Ah yes, the unbearable heat of the day that only got worse in the afternoon hours. Years of living in the harsh landscape had accustomed its inhabitants to cope with the sun's blistering rays and infernal heat in various ways. Even the children seemed naturally tanned, their skin more capable with handling the rays than the pale tourists roaming about. Almost every person wore some sort of head covering to keep their eyes shaded, and despite the heat most kept their body almost fully covered, though the clothing was made typically made of lightweight, breathable material. Almost every stand had some sort of cloth covering above, allowing customers to enjoy a little bit of shade if they were willing to look through the wears.

Little set him apart from all the other inhabitants of the land, though the seemed he got awkward looks at any stand he stopped at. Maybe it was the blue streaks through his jet black hair or maybe the tattoos one his face, the Eye of Horus on his forehead in particular. It was after all a symbol of protection, royal power, and good health yet here he was in such a tiny, almost unknown town. The only signs of any wealth though were a few bangles around his arms and earring, the latter of which he took off at one stall and held out before him.

"If you have any sort of eye for this kind of thing, you would be able to tell that these are pure gold, sir. If you would be interested I would trade these for two small bags of grain." The voice that came from the man was soft, almost hard to hear, as if he was somehow weakened. His offer seemed to only aggravate the merchant for some reason as he was shortly told to leave and to never bother the person again. This was a kind of rudeness he was subjected to often if he bothered coming in to a town, despite his offers being of legitimate value.

Semerkhet let out a soft sigh as he put the earring back on and continued on his way, hoping for better luck down the road at a different both. Due to his lack of attention his shoulder gently glazed another man as they crossed paths.

It was very uncomfortable. When you're stuck somewhere strange and unknown to you, you subconsciously feel paranoid. There was nothing to his advantage here, nothing he could use to have some fun. He kept his eyes on the tourists, since those people were usually the ones with the electronic trinkets, just like that camera. Anything considered "technological," really, could be put under his limited control.

He suddenly spotted a loud tourist speaking on his cellphone. Bulls-eye; the cellphones were always fun to play with. Slowly, the boy grabbed his headphones and slipped on side over his ear. Grids flashed within his eyes again, and suddenly the cellphone turned into the same 3D grid model. Data processed through the boy's head as he figured out what the cellphone could do. Send texts? Take pictures? Play games? Play music? By accessing that inner database, the boy could manipulate every little trinket within the cellphone. It proved quite entertaining, as some owners even suddenly discovered their phone could do this or that!

As he was focusing on the cellphone, something suddenly broke his focus. The boy snapped out of it, and his eyes cleared in a flash, turning back to their teal color. He accidentally let go of the headphone as somebody scrapped his shoulder. His heart skipped a beat as he tried to look casual. If someone saw his power, it would potentially raise suspicions. That wouldn't be so good, now would it? "Hey, please watch where you're going," he told the man, but not in an irritated, aggressive voice; simply as a matter-of-fact. Oh, he was upset his focus had been broken, but the less attention he attracted, the better.
