Veins of Ice [Elektra and I, L]

The air was cold and frigid in the lower levels of the fortress, but for a soul that was made entirely of ice, it had very little effect, if any at all. Kimblee kept her hands in her pockets as she strolled along carelessly behind her ‘cold-hearted’ commander through the icy, tunnel-like hallways of the Briggs base. The woman’s long blonde hair swayed back and forth, following the motion of her thick coat that draped lightly around her shoulders, but Kimble ignored it, her gaze focused straight ahead. The ‘prisoner’ they were going to visit was less of a prisoner and more of an inconvenience, she reflected. Ever since that absolute fuck up back in the city, the commander had been pissed beyond belief, and the cause of all the commotion and subsequent failure of a relatively important mission certainly didn’t do anything to improve the Mother Bear of Briggs’ attitude any.

If Kimblee were a lesser woman, she’d probably have been a little scared for her life, but as it was, she’d bore her punishment (A rather brutal dressing down, followed by a good few hits with the flat of a sword that nearly had her forgetting her own name) with stoic acceptance. The silence in the hallways, save for the thud of boots on steel, was a bit unbearable, but again, this Kimblee bore with a quiet acceptance, knowing that the anger and thoughts brewing in her commander’s mind were things she didn’t want to stir up or get stuck in the middle of. She’d let her save up everything for that nuisance of a woman that currently sat in a high security prison cell in the very bowels of the Briggs fortress. It didn’t take them long to reach the cell, and the guards standing in front of the heavy doors moved aside instantly at a single look from the icy bear of a commander before them.

Kimblee was always so impressed with Olivier’s ability to move mountains with a single look, and even when they stepped into the room, facing a cell where a woman was being kept, bound with the highest grade cuffs and metal they could find; there would be no multiplying hands here, not unless Olivier decided to release the woman. Kimblee stopped just behind her commander, a smirk on her face as she gaze into the cell. “You.” Olivier’s voice startled even Kimblee, but the alchemist wisely said nothing, knowing it would be all Olivier from here on out. “Tell me what you are.” The voice of the commander of Briggs was as cold as her heart, and it brooked no arguments. “And give me one good reason why I shouldn’t kill you.”

I love adventurous tales like that. That uplifting feeling that comes from seeing unknown lands and the knowledge that you came across—nothing can replace it! It opens a path from which self-confidence, experience, and important friendships—from the sharing of life or death situations—are born! But hearing it just isn’t the same. I want to create my own magnificent story!

A great adventure!

Despite what the guards might have believed, Robin had been awake about an hour after arriving and being thrown in the cold cell she  was now kept in.  However, she was simply to tired to actually bother starting up a conversation to gather some intel on the place, so she feigned sleep for the majority of the time, opening one eye now and then just to see if anything around her had changed.

She had tried a couple of times to activate her hana hana no mi, and she could get a couple pair of hands to spring to life, but that was all.  What she couldn't figure out was why she couldn't pull of eight or nine pairs of hands.  It didn't feel as if they had used sea stone to restrain her, but if she had to guess, she would have said that it was some variant, for while she could still use her powers to a certain extent, it was more tiring then it should have been, and extremely limiting.

In all honesty, she was beginning to think that Kimblee, who she was sure had something to do with this despite the fact that she couldn't quite remember the last thing that had happened, had just gone and locked her up and then promptly forgotten about her.  That thought changed when she heard heavy footsteps echoing down the halls, making their way closer.

Robin had been expecting to see a man turn the corner, but instead she was greeted with the sight of a woman.  Her eyebrows rose in amusement as she noticed a change in Kimblee's cocky, and she assumed it was from the blonde's presence.  What she didn't expect was for the woman to come out full force.

While she didn't jump back (not that she could have with all the restraints) in fear when she heard the other woman's voice, she did blink a couple of times in surprise.

How interesting...  She's not just bluffing or hiding behind a cool and calm exterior in hopes to give off a powerful appearance...  She is actually powerful enough to back up any claims that might say other wise.  Which means I might have some fun. Robin thought with a smile.

"I'm Nico Robin.  And if I've learned one thing through the years that I've been running from the world, it's that you don't just answer other's questions without some sort of trade off.  But I will say that you'll have a fun time trying to kill me." she replied with an emotionless tone.

And truthfully, she knew that her answers wouldn't really influence whether or not this blonde let her life

Robin just smiled as she closed her eyes for a second before doing her best to sit up against the wall without causing the shackles (which she had no doubt were much tighter than they needed to be) to inflict even more damage on her skin.

If you knew knew what the bluebirds sang at you
You would never sing along
Cast them out cause this is our culture
These new flocks are nothing but vultures

Because they took our love and they filled it up
Filled it up with Novocaine and now Im just numb
And don't mind me, Im just a son of a gun
So dont stop, dont stop until your heart goes numb
I dont feel a thing for you

Olivier raised one elegantly sculpted eyebrow, her face remaining unchanged even as she stared down at the dark haired woman held captive in her prison. When one of her top agents had returned to her fortress, mission failed and completely bungled and carrying a woman slung over her shoulder (wrapped in a blanket, even if that didn’t make her much less conspicuous) Olivier could honestly say she was angry. She was quite ready to kill the woman, Nico Robin, on first sight, and probably wouldn’t have lost a wink of sleep over it. However, Kimblee had offered a bit of valuable information concerning Robin’s special abilities, and after listening somewhat impatiently, Olivier decided that after completely ruining Kimblee’s mission, Robin at least owed her that much.

The ice queen of the Briggs fortress crossed her arms over her chest, fingers tapping in a melodic rhythm against her elbow. “My, my,” she commented quietly, her voice full of silent menace and cold promises. “Usually when I tell someone to give me a reason as to why I shouldn’t kill them, they do it.” In the blink of an eye, she had drawn her saber, and the tip of it slid through the bars, cold steel grinding against cold steel, to trail along the edge of Robin’s chin. “You want a trade off? Fine. You ruined an operation that one of my top agents had been working on for nearly three months, and have forced us to completely reevaluate our infiltration into one of the largest and most dangerous crime syndicates in the nation. Your trade off will be this; you will either use your strange abilities to aid us in our goal of destroying this syndicate, or I will kill you.“

The cool metal of her saber slid along Robin’s cheek, stopping just at her chin and lifting it, as one would with a finger. “Is that better? Or shall I dispose of you now, and find someone else to take your place? It won‘t be very difficult at all. However, I feel you owe me, considering this entire mess is your fault. And Kimblee‘s, to a lesser degree, but I can‘t just go around killing my subordinates, now can I? They‘re a lot more difficult to replace…You, on the other hand...well, I don't think your presence will be all that missed. And there's a lot of wilderness that one could 'lose their way' in out here.”

It opens a path from which self-confidence, experience, and important friendships—from the sharing of life or death situations—are born! But hearing it just isn’t the same. In all honesty, seeing how comfortable Olivier was in her current situation was quite refreshing.  It was nice to know that there were still women who didn't mind cutting through others to make their way to the top, which she was sure Olivier had done to get to her current position.

As the tip of her saber trailed along her neck, gently tracing unseen lines, it sent shivers up her spine, and her eyes narrowed.  As it stopped at her cheek and lifted her chine up to forcefully meet eyes with its holder, the stunning brilliance and sheer cold that seemed to emanate from the other woman's eyes was quite startling.

What she really hadn't expected was to be offered a chance to get out of the cell and somehow help them.

"Well, I can't say I've ever had someone hold a sword to my throat and then ask for my help, but seeing as how you're just so persuasive, I suppose that I'll have to accept." Robin said calmly.  Her eyes closed for a split second, and when they opened, two pairs of hands sprang out and gently removed the weapon from her throat and guided it as far away from her as possible before they seemed to tire out and disappear.

It really was troubling for her powers to be so limited, but if Olivier was serious about her offer, Robin figured that she would be back to full power as soon as the restraints were removed.

However, it seemed that the blonde wasn't even done with her tirade yet.  And as she listened, Robin couldn't help but smile.

"Top agent?  How laughable.  I was minding my own business in that coffee shop that she so foolishly allowed to be blown up, and then to make matters worse, she insisted on throwing herself over me and then using me as a hostage instead of killing me on the spot.  You've been standing in front of me for only a short time, but I can already tell that compared to Kimblee, you seem to be more heartless than she ever could be.  I might be a freak to most people, but in reality, you and I are more alike than you and Kimblee ever will be, and I guarantee I'm going to be more useful in the end.  So while I will certainly help you out with your predicament due to the fact that I've probably got more experience running and later ruining such groups than anyone here, I will say this right now: I hate having such dangerous weapons pointed at me, just about as much as I hate to be threatened."

Olivier lifted her pale pink lip in a perfectly eloquent sneer. “Oh, don’t get me wrong,” she growled, her voice low and menacing. “I am not asking for your help so much as I am demanding. You have two options; you aid my men, or you die. Simple as that. I don’t recall giving you any other option. Unless of course, you’d like a third one. I don’t mind allowing you to sit here and rot in a cell for the rest of your life.” Olivier withdrew her saber, and sheathed it once again with the cold slide of metal. She seemed relatively unimpressed as she gazed down at Robin, her eyes unyielding and her face seemingly set into a permanent scowl. She crossed her arms forbiddingly across her chest.

“I’ll pretend I didn’t hear you insult my men in the interest of keeping your head on your shoulders. I don’t pretend to think that I stand on equal grounds with an alchemist, but I also don’t like other people talking down about my operations. I don’t think you quite understand what you are dealing with, girl.” Her eyes narrowed, the cold blue turning to chips of ice as she leaned in closer. “You hate to be threatened and your hate dangerous weapons? My, my. It seems you’ve certainly been brought to the wrong place. I hold no patience for fools who waste my time. So I’d suggest holding your insubordinate little tongue. I have no qualms about leaving you here for the rest of your natural days, or disposing of our immediately. Neither the military nor the civilian population has any interest in the life of one worthless little runt. So I imagine there won’t be any rescue party trying to storm my fortress anytime soon; not that they’d get very far…”

Her lips quirked up into a dark sneer, and she leaned backwards, gazing down at Robin with a condescending glare. “You’d best learn to show a little respect to your superiors, or risk losing that loose little tongue of yours. And should you step out of line, I can assure you that freaky power or not, Kimblee will not hesitate to kill you.” She motioned to the alchemist, who was standing silent behind her, and waved at the door. “I will not release you until I have your word that you will not use your powers against any of my men or myself. If you do, you will never make it out of this fortress alive.”

Robin didn't bother with a quirky reply this time around.  She was serious, as was Olivier; that much was obvious now.  And honestly, she didn't mind the idea of helping them out.  It was nice to be needed, even if she didn't want to admit that to anyone, even herself.

There were so many things Robin would have loved to have said to the other woman when she began to speak again, ranging from how she would've found her way out eventually to her powers weren't as freaky or destructive as Kimblee's, but she kept her mouth shut still.  She did want to get out of the cuffs, so when Olivier had finished her threats for the time being, Robin looked at her straight on and nodded.

"You have my word then.  And I may be a great many things, but when I give someone my word, I won't go back on it." she said without blinking.  She did still want to slap that smirk off of Olivier's face with a great many hands, but she wasn't able to do that, so she just rolled her eyes and waited for the blonde's response.

(Sorry about the short post, just don't want to have Robin talking to much in fear of her head coming off.  xP)
