"Yeah, I'm fine," the Void Sahound replied gruffly, still staring at the floor. He let out a sigh of relief as he realized that the demon wasn't taking him over after all. It appeared it was going to let this one slide. For now.

"Yeah, he is," Scout replied, not even bothering to whisper. "I don't know what's wrong with him.."

"Scout!" Aurelia cried sternly. "Be nice!"

"But he's always so quiet and withdrawn. I think he's hiding something," the Wood Sahound said, glancing over at Fidel. He was so relieved that he didn't think and looked up, making eye contact with her.

"If you only knew why!" he blurted out suddenly. Instantly, Scout's eyes widened, and Aurelia looked over at him. He felt the skin under his fur redden at her gaze, but he ignored it, telling himself that he didn't feel anything at all. "None of you can ever understand me!!" Now he was yelling. What had started this, he didn't know, but he became aware that it would be better for him to stop as soon as possible. So he fell silent, and his eyes dropped back to the ground.

Sekkai stoped playing with his paws when he heard Fidel yelling. Sekkai was looking at them, he didn't fully understood why he had yell, but it had scared him. He was sitting still, not making a sound to be able to hear what would be said.

Soul watched Fidel. After a moment he padded over to him and sniffed at him. The flames on Soul's tails flared up. Soul backed up a few paces, then sat down again. "You have two scents..." he mused, his tails settling back down.

The Void Sahound's fur bristled. "What do you mean?" he snapped at Soul, using anger to hide his secret. Big mistake. Instantly, his heart began to beat faster, and he felt another consciousness slowly probing his mind. Frantically, he tried to go into shut down, slowing his breathing, his eyes half-closed.

"Fidel! Fidel, are you all right?" Aurelia asked, seeing the strained look on his face. She walked over and gently touched him with his paw. She was trying to help, but it only made things worse. Now, he felt his claws lengthening, and a distinct pain in his shoulders. The transformation had begun.

"Get away," he gasped hoarsely, looking up. "Quick, before it's too late!" The pained look in his eyes frightened the two female Sahounds and they backed up a little. "It's taking over..."

"What's taking over?" Scout asked, her eyes widening with fear. Even she could see that something was going wrong with him. His claws were visibly lengthening, their ends curling into cruel hooks, and.. were those wings sprouting from his shoulders?

[Fidel: 7, Aurelia: 7, Scout: 7]

Sekkai was looking at Fidel. He couldn't understand what was happening, but he knew buy the two female sahond that something was not quite right. ''What are you doing?'' he asked as he walked toward Fidel.

"Stay back!" Fidel snarled at Sekkai, his eyes wild. "Can't you see? You have to flee now!" His voice was almost pleading as he shuddered from the effort of trying to repress the demon.

"I-I think we should go," Scout said uncertainly, starting to back away. This whole strange business was starting to freak the normally talkative and outgoing Sahound out. I mean, he was growing WINGS for Pete's sake! And black leathery ones at that.

"Isn't there anything we can do for him?" Ever thoughtful, Aurelia looked at him with sadness and compassion in her eyes. "Please Fidel, tell us what's wrong and we will help you!"

[Fidel: 8, Aurelia: 8, Scout: 8]

[Becca]

Soul watched calmly, his eyes had become utterly white, vacant. His tail flames flickered, then roared into a stronger life. He slowly stood up. Positioning himself in front of Fidel, he spoke in a voice suffused with a strange force. "Calm yourself Fidel...Don't let it take control..." he said, then shook himself. His eyes had returned to their normal color, and his tail flames shrank to their normal size. "What did I just say?" he asked, puzzled.

(Gah, Mom came home early yesterday and I couldn't get on...XP)

Sekkai was staring at Fidel. 'What was happening to him?' He couldn't move, he was freezed there, looking at Fidel. It was as if something in him wanted him to stay there.

But already it seemed that Soul's words had done something... Slowly, the wings began to recede, and Fidel's breathing slowed. Wordlessly, he curled up, and closed his eyes. His flanks rose and fell to the soft, steady beat of his breath, and his eyes were closed. The Sahound was sleeping.

"Whoa," Scout said, her eyes still wide. "I have a feeling that we very nearly escaped death. Great job, Soul! Whatever you did seems to have worked."

Silently, Aurelia stared at the resting Void Sahound, wondering what had come over him. So strange.. it was almost like he was silent and emotionless to protect them. From whatever it was that he had so nearly become. "Do you know anything about this?" she asked the Generation Ancient Kuhna.

[Fidel: 9, Aurelia: 9, Scout: 9]

[Becca]

"No, I don't even know what I just did!" said Soul. He couldn't remember what he had said, or what had happened after Fidel had begun changing. "What did I do? I can't remember." he said in a weak voice. This was a bit strange, Soul always had a good memory. Why couldn't he remember this?

[Rushfeather]

Sekkai looked as Fidel fell asleep, then he walked  to sit beside him. He looked for a moment before he poked him ''Hello?''. His tail was waving, and he was finding it fun that Fidel had curled up. He wanted to play, but was it what the others wanted to do?

"No, don't wake him up!" Scout cried, starting toward Sekkai. But it was too late. With a groan, Fidel stretched out, and opened his eyes.

"What happened?" he asked. Clearly, he had no memory of what had occurred, either. "I was.. angry.. and then... it took over... I don't remember what happened after that." A sudden thought made him start and look around in fear. "Is.. is everyone alive and ... unhurt?" he asked falteringly.

"Yes, we're all fine," the Wood Sahound said impatiently. "But what about you? You went wacky on us! And then Soul said something and you went to sleep. Only.. Soul can't even remember what he said!! It's a madhouse in here!" She cried, sitting down, and throwing up her paws.

"Calm down," Aurelia said, smiling as she sat down next to her friend. "I'm sure Fidel will explain everything.. right?" She turned her face to look at him, and he felt a tug on his heart. How could anyone say no to that face? But no.. he couldn't... Turning his face away, he stared at the ground, and didn't answer. He got to his feet and padded out, knowing that he had to leave now before he confessed everything.

"Where ya going?" Scout asked, bounding after him. "Let's go home, Aurelia!"

The Seraph Sahound followed, pausing to give the others a wave goodbye.
