Where the Wild Dragons Are [p/Night]

Riding day!

Nimbus was a big concerned about how it would go as he led an adolescent dragon through the trees and out into a field. Normally he was quite fearless, perhaps even reckless on his travels. However, the young dragon had already proven herself temperamental and unpredictable. He had a lot of faith in her, but she wasn't quite ready yet. All the more reason that her training was so important.

"Stormy," Nimbus cooed, softly clicking his tongue at her. She leaned down in response and let out a playful hiss. "Good girl," he assured, scratching under her chin and hugging her nose. "We're going to try flying today, okay? It'll be fun, you'll see."

"Down, do you remember down?" He emphasized the word 'down' so that she would recognize it as a command he had recently taught her. Instead of obeying, she flicked her long tail at him and chuffed. "Ah!" he hissed sharply, "Down, Stormy." Eventually, she gave in and leaned down with her wings folded. "Good girl," he cooed once again.

Now it was time to climb on. He braced himself against her shoulder and pulled himself up. His feet flailed wildly for a bit before he finally managed to wiggle his way up onto her back. Dragon training sure would be easier if he weren't so short. "Thassa good girl," he praised, throwing a bit of jerky in front of her face. Stormy eagerly snapped up the treat and looked over her shoulder at him. She certainly wasn't used to a person sitting on her, but it didn't hurt or anything so she let him stay.

"Alright Stormy, up!" he called, throwing his paws toward the sky. Stormy blinked at him. He definitely seemed excited, but she had no idea why. "Up, Stormy, up!" he pressed his heel into her side, but still she didn't move. "See this?" he asked, revealing a piece of meat for her. She snapped at it, but he had expected that and pulled it out of reach. "If you want this, you're going to have to go up!" he whipped the meat into the air as high as he could.

Finally, the dragon beat its great wings and pulled the two of them off the ground. She snapped the meat out of the air with expert grace and swallowed it nearly whole. "Good job Stormy, you got it!" Just as Nimbus was ready to show her 'down,' something must have caught her attention, because she bolted off into the sky. Nimbus nearly tumbled off her back, but he just barely managed to hold on.

"Hold on, Stormy, we need to go down now," he said into the whipping wind. "Where are you taking us?"

It seemed he would have to find out the answer to that question later, because she wasn't about to stop any time soon. He tried in vain a few more times to get her to turn around or to land, but she was determined to keep going. Eventually, he gave up and let her take the lead. He hadn't planned on having an adventure today, but apparently he didn't have much of a choice. By now, he really should be used to that outcome.
