With temperatures rising over 143°C (289.40°F) in most areas, the only relief is during the nights when it is much cooler. All travelers are advised to keep to the local towns on the desert's outskirts and avoid traveling too far from civilization. (+3 Endurance, +2 Defense)

Shhtt.t.t.t Tick tick ting!

As #1 skuttled across the sands there was a sudden metalic tink as her claws struck something. The purple in her tail glowed for a moment before there was a brief scuffle of sand and the Scorpinch retreived the item. A Ring. Holding it in her claws she tested the durability of it, then put it in her mouth. "Metal, Gold... No gems."

While she was doing this #2 had come over to investigate the noise and upon hearing the analysis waved his tail threateningly in the air. "Negative. Abandon and Continue." They were not here to search for gold or various bits of abandoned human lives. Turning, he skuttled towards the west, his eyes looking at the almost set sun and the glare it created on the sands. Blinking, he turned and shifted sideways, continueing to probe the sands with his claws and feet.

#1 reluctantly put down the ring. It was not what they were after, but it could come in useful. She too began to skitter sideways, still looking but as she did so her tail lowered behind her and scooped up the ring, its golden band sliding downwards and resting near her back. There. That would work.

(( Hey hey hey 8D ))

Image
Gear

Voices up ahead?
Sounded like it.
Sounded very monotone.
Sounded familiar to him.
He scurried up a sand dune to see if the voices were there.
And to his surprise he saw what looked to me two Scorpinch.
Something he did think he would see.
What were they doing here?
His tail flickered slightly.
He tilted his head slightly.
Eying the two and watching to see what they were up to.

(( I got a restless scorpion wanting some action too. . .don't worry, Erebus will show up later 8D ))

(no prob, i'll probably ask draiz to move this to the desert since i posted in the wrong spot)

ExLot Number One was the first to sense that they were no longer alone and turned, her mechanical eyes whirling and blinking in a red and yellow pattern. Exlot Number Two saw her and turned, staring yp at the other Scorpinch. Bracing his legs against the sand he stood as tall as he could and started walking stiffly forwards, his eyes a dark crimson warning while his tail hovered over his back, the tip obviously held in a threatening manner. "Begone Intruder!" A low metallic hissing came rumbling forth, as #2 was clearly ready to fight. Number one stepped forwards, her body smaller than both the males thanks to Petite Figure. "Halt Number Two. He may have been sent here to aide us in the Search." Number two whirled and with a quick swip of his tail knocked #1 to the ground. "SILENCE! If you are wrong than you have revealed information about our Search to an Outsider! Insolence!" #2's whole body began to shake and rattle slightly from the anger he was programed to feel.

Gear had shifted how he was positioned when the other Scorpinch headed for him.
He held his upper body up above the ground.
While his tail lied closer to the ground.
His claws readied for a fight.
But when the smaller one had attempted to stop him.
He relaxed.
Until the larger one pushed the smaller one.
this caused Gear to be enraged.
He was being cruel to her.
And he wasn't one for cruelty towards gals.
"Hey jerk! Your fights with me!" He yelled in a gear sounding voice.
His position changed again.
And his tail swung above his head.
Readied to strike.

Number two stepped towards Gear, intent on getting into a fight but once again, Number Ones speed came in beneficial. Before he could close within striking range, she was back on her feet and this time standing between the two of them, hissing and rattling coming from her before she calmed enough to speak. "That is ENOUGH. Two, will will not find what we are looking for this way." that said, she turned towards Gear. "If you can resist goading him into a fight, you're welcome to help us search, otherwise please depart. We can not afford any distractions during this limited window of opportunity."

Two glared a moment more but hearing her tell the other male to take a hike satisfied some part of his programed emotions. His stance relaxed slightly though he remained on guard. This could prove to his advantage. "Thats right, think you can resist antagonizing me?" of course not... not when Two was so easily irked. Surely now the male would leave and they could continue their search. Hopefully the noise of their anger hadn't scared anything away.

Gear had calmed when the female spoke.
But it seemed that he had brought up problems.
And he would have left.
But the male's words made him want to stay ever the more.
Gear decided to stay and help.
Knowing it would annoy the male.
"I can help." He said in his geary voice.
Smirking slightly to the male.
He wondered what they were looking for?
Gold?
Treasure?
Whatever it was.
He could be of assistance to them.
Since he caused them so much trouble.

He could help. Hmph. Number Two glared at the smirk for a moment then turned towards Number One. "I've recorded this and if anything goes wrong while he is with us, you will be held responsible." There. Put that in your pipe and smoke it. Hmph. Turning, he stalked back over to where he had been before the interuption, his body rapidly shifting back into search mode as his claws continued to probe the local sands for any signs of life.

Number One smiled then at Two's words nodded. Very well. Turning towards Gear, her eyes blinked a blue color for a moment, debating how much to tell him. "I'm ExLot Number One, and he's ExLot Number Two. We used to just be Lot's but once they stopped making us... our names changed. We have been told that there is a new species of Paragon living in the sands in this part of the world, and ordered to find one. If we fail to find that, then finding a inuet to ask questions is our secondary objective. Your assistance is appreciated." That said, she turned and skuttled back to her spot and resumed her searching of the sand for any signs of life, both scorpinches slowly working their way towards the setting sun.

Gear blinked as the female walked off.
They were named like robots.
Knowing that they were.
But at least they could be acknowledge as living creatures.
That's why Gear was named they way he was.
To be known he is living and robotic.
But it wasn't his business.
So he decided to join them and not ask questions.
But he didn't think they were going to find either of the pets they were looking for.
A Paragon was rare.
And an Imuet wasn't one for showing up so easily.

(You can throw him in whenever / asap, and then mine will show up a post or two later. ^_^)

Number two glanced over as the male began his own searching and while he still didn't agree with it the desert was a big place. "So, what are you called?" Best have a name so that he wasn't shouting hey you when it came time to fight. As he asked his claws found something and carefully pulling it up from the sand he stared at the small bone in distaste. "Poor living thing, probably couldn't handle the heat." The he tossed the bone behind him and continued to search.

Number one wasn't having any luck finding anything else, and wondered if their programmer had sent them on a fools errand just to get them out of the house. While it might not look it, she was paying attention to the males answer, wanting to know what his name was. Two found a small bone, and she began to wonder where the rest of the creature was. Maybe it was eaten by a Corbine.

Gear blinked.
The Male had asked for his name.
Which was something he would consider as a polite conversation.
Maybe the Male was starting to calm down?
Either way, they didn't know his name.
And he wasn't going to be rude and not tell them.
"My highers call me Gear." He replied.
He never understood why they did.
Everyone else was named.
So he just assumed that's why they called him a name.
He shrugged.
"Don't know why." He finished.
And started searching again.

Erebus

Ripples in the sand.
As is something might be swimming beneath the surface.
Then the tip of blade.
A black blade.
It cuts the surface.
Then dips back in.
The sand dunes seem to act as waves int his golden sea.
The rippling seem to be approaching the machines.
Interested by the vibrations they created.

Gear. It sounded a lot nicer to #1 than just numbers, and while she searched she began to wonder if their programers might give them new names. "Gear... it is a nice name." Like a spider on a web, the shiftings of the sands did not escape notice, though One had her back turned and so did not see the fin. Two happened to be looking in the right direction and after letting out a warning hiss, he watched the sands where they were shifting, trying to judge the size and such of the paragon, like a human might a shark in deep waters. "One, you remember the summons?" Of course she did, she was good like that. His tail waved in the direction he next expected the creatures fins to appear. One turned in the direction indicated by Two and shifted to stand about a foot in front of them. Her whole body lowered to lay on the sands and an intense vibration began to radiate outwards from her belly, her eyes whirling an odd lavender color.
"Travelers lost amidst the sands
searching for forbidden lands
Though the heat be hot and true
shifting sands expose a clue."

There was more, but it was supposed to wait until more was revealed than just a fin. The words spoken were not in common tongue, rather they were from an ancient species of the desert and it had taken a long time to find a teacher and learn. After each line, Two murmured the words in common tongue however, so Gear and whoever else was nearby would understand.

Golden Luck .:.:. Oracle of the Desert

There was a shifting to the sands of time, a hollow breeze echoing through her empty chambers. Things were being set in motion, things she had seen long ago. It was time. Rising from her slumber, Golden Luck stretched and then stared sightlessly at her tomb's door. Slowly, as old words were spoken the lock twisted and shifted until finally the panal slid to the side, revealing a narrow hallway. Stepping out of her room she paused at the door to sharpen her claws and then started the walk towards the ritual chamber. She would need to be polished and shined before touching the night time sun.

Gear watched as the two went into action.
They were like dogs on the scent.
And he was interested in how they worked together.
But he watched.
And noticed something about the fin.
It was familiar.
But how?
He swore he had seen it before.
But where?

Erebus heard words.
Weird words.
Nothing he had ever heard before.
And wondered why they were being said.
But before he could wonder any longer.
The sand seemed to shift.
As if the words had done something to it.
The sand he was swimming in turned into a dune.
And before Erebus could move out of the way.
He was headed to the outside.
Then as is like a surfer cutting through the back of a wave and flying out the front.
Erebus was out.
In the open.
A sitting duck.
He just burst out from the wave.
Sand splashing everywhere like water.
And he hit the sandy ground below.

Number one was in a bit of a trance-like state but as the sands shifted #2 stepped up to stand in front of her, his eyes looking at the suddenly revealed Paragon. It was definately the right kind... but the colors were all wrong. Rattling to get its attention, Number two made a brief bow. "Pardon the interruption, but do you know where we can find more of your kind? We're looking for the Oracle." By now One was back to normal and with a smile at Gear she focused on the paragon, only to feel dismay. Her voice was soft, but Gear was near enough to hear. "Oh no! What did I do?" She seemed to think that she had messed up the words somehow and thus brought forth one who was not supposed to be.

Golden Luck was by now done with her shining and polishing and with a soundless thought of thanks towards the bettles she shifted forth into the sands. Ahh... how warm and delightful they felt after being in that room for far too long. There was a disturbance, however, and staying out of sight and sound, she carefully shifted towards it, her body barely making any vibrations within her home sands.

Gear ran up to #1.
"It's okay, practice makes perfect." He said softly with a smile.
He didn't want her to feel bad.
He then focused his attention to the Paragon.
It did look really familiar.
And then he remembered.
This was one of his highers Paragons.
What was his name again?

Erebus stood up and shook the sand from his blades.
Then eyed the small robots.
"What is the meaning of all this?" He roared.
His voice was rough and loud.
"What do you mean more of my kind?" He asked.
He didn't know how to find his kind.
"They are around." He answered irritated.

Well, if it looked familiar it sure would be nice for Gear to say something to it so that it didn't try to eat One and Two. Of course, they'd be pretty crunchy. Her tail waved in the air behind her as she smiled and then focused on the roaring paragon, which was not a hard thing to do. "My appologies, self analysis indicates there was some sand in my vocals which affected the summons." This made perfect sense to her and Two, hearing what she said shook his head. Of course he should have insisted she run a fast self diagnostics as soon as the fin was spotted, and before the summoning. Ah well, it was a learning process. "Sir, please calm yourself. I will receive your audible waves at half mute until the volume is lowered, though i can understand the upset." Thanks to muting his hearing input, the next sound was faint enough and upon the same frequency that he did not hear it.

There was a roar, male, of her own species. Very interesting. Golden Luck carefully shifted below the sands to where she would be behind the group of scorpinchs and silently rose behind them with only the faintest of shhh shh sand noises announcing her surfacing and coming to a stand still. Sightless eyes felt the vibrations in the air and her nose told her lots of things. Slowly, she shook her head. "Why are there four of you? There was only supposed to be two... The speaker and the guardian." It was a simple question, but it was clear she would not move from the spot until it was answered.
