Two shapes lay silluhetted against the baring sun over the sand dunes. One, though dark shaggy fur shurely left him no comfort from the heat, held his head high, his tails waving gently. His almost sloppy gait and is harsh panting seemed almost canine. The other, a femninine shape, held her head and tails down submissively. Her black and blood fur left her panting gently in the heat, delicate paws makeing slow way as to not slip on the sand. "Khere, What exactly are we looking for, again? There doesn't seem to be anything in this place. Nothing but lots and lots of sand." Her voice was high and quiet.
But the lykuhna didn't seem to think her weak and in need of gentle words. Even to a very observant onlooker, the use of a pet name that the male obviously couldn't stand should've been hint enough of the mischief she held. "We aren't looking for anything, Luce. Nafarious wants us to make sure there isn't anything here. We are going to put something here if it meets his wishes."
"Why does it always have to be hot as the underworld, though?" The female asked, quietly. Though, somehow, without sounding annoyed or angry at all. As if merely seeing a fact and asking why like a kit, not actually complaining about it.
"Perhaps," thought the lykuhna in responce, "It is because Master Nafarious looks up to the lord of the underworld."
You may call, you may call
But the little black cats won't hear you.
The little black cats are maddened
By the bright green light of the moon;
They are whirling and running and hiding,
They are wild who were once so confiding,
They are crazed when the moon is riding
You will not catch the kittens soon.
They care not for saucers of milk,
They think not of pillows of silk;
Your softest, crooningest call
Is less than the buzzing of flies.
They are seeing more than you see,
They are hearing more than you hear,
And out of the darkness they peer.
With a goblin light in their eyes!

Kubari, male Imperial Sahound

The sand formed small craters under Kubari's feet as he bounded across the burning sand. Every once in a while, he just needed to escape, and to run, to feel the wind in his fur and smell the rushing air. He closed his eyes, wishing he could stop panting and breathe a deep sigh of relief, because that's what he felt like doing.
"Hey Bari, wait up, will 'ya?"
The imperial sahound grimaced and slowed his gait to a trot. A gangly Kamo Kuhna, all smiles and laughter, loped up beside him. "You've got to remember that you have longer legs and bigger paws than me, Kubari. I'll sink right into this sand."
"Please don't call me that, Trigger."
"Kubari? But it's your name!"
"No, Bari. Don't call me Bari. Or Kuba. Or any variation of my name that isn't actually my name."
"But Cynder does."
"Exactly."

They continued on in silence, Kubari slowing down every once in a while so Trigger could catch up. He didn't mind the kuhna, or the fact that he had decicided to tag along with him on this pointless adventure. Kubari found a lot of the pets at the camp. (namely Cynder and Monai) overwhelmingly annoying because of their over-the-top cheerfulness and/or insanity. Now Trigger was cheerful and energetic, but not in an annoying way at all, more of a mellow, laid back manner. He could be a little odd sometimes, but he was a good friend to have along on an adventure. Who knows, Kubari thought, maybe something interesting will happen.

I listen to the wind
to the wind of my soul
Where I'll end up well I think,
only God really knows
I've sat upon the setting sun
But never, never never never
I never wanted water once
No, never, never, never

I listen to my words but
they fall far below
I let my music take me where
my heart wants to go
I swam upon the devil's lake
But never, never never never
I'll never make the same mistake
No, never, never, never

The wind had an odd way of howling over the desert dunes. It was too flat to stop the wind, so it was a constant hassle, but it was also too flat to stop any sounds, the the sand had quite the way of absorbing the waves, so even the close pawsteps of the two kuhnas sounded distant and far off. But there was also nothing to stop foreign sounds from reaching the two, as long as the wind was in the right direction.
Nosakhere's ears twitched. He could swear he heard voices. Not far off he didn't think, and not very loud, but he couldn't tell. Between the wind, the never ending sand, and the swealtering heat, everthing sounded quiet and distant. "You hear that?" He whispered in Lucy's ear.
She glanced at him, twitched her ears in curiosity, then nodded. Almost instantly, she dropped into a hunting crouch and started approching the sound.
Nosakhere sighed and rolled his eyes. These were no prey animals. They wouldn't be unnoticed just from staying quiet and down wind. So they would have to make a bold approch to deside if these were foe or harmless. As much as he hated it, the Lykuhna had to admit that there was no longer anything known as 'friend'.
Lucy watched as her friend raised his head high and paced past her to the  strangers. He always hated stealth. Figures. Realising that her stealth wouldn't work if he ruined it, she stood as well, reclaiming her submissive stance as she followed him. She would remain like that at a time. Appearing shy and quiet while Khere did the introductions.
Nosakhere noted a sahound and a kuhna. Nothing too bad. One kuhna was out numbered by the two, and the lykuhna had come to beleive that sahounds were nothing without their pack. He was behind them, just slightly as they ran. "Hey!" He called to them, hoping for them to stop. "Friends! What brings you around here!"
Oh yes, he could seem like there was such a thing. That didn't make it so.

Oh, great. So he got out of the camp to escape uneeded company, and he ended up finding more. Kubari scrutinized the unfimiliar Kuhna closely. What kind of kuhna was that, anyway? Not a kind he was familiar with. But then again, what kind of kuhna comes out to a place like this without prompting, just to hang out? Then he reminded himself that that's exactly what he and Trigger were doing.
"Just exploring", he said stiffly. He noted that there was a blood kuhna, smaller than this larger wolflike kuhna, standing several feet behind her companion. There was something about her...some air surrounding her that he couldn't place, that he didn't trust, or was afraid of.
"What are YOU doing here?", he asked somewhat accusingly, directing his question at the blood kuhna.

Trigger smiled his embarrassed smile and paced foreward. "I apologize for my friend here. He needs to work on his manners a bit." He ignored the nasty look Kubari shot him. He was going to get it later for that, he knew. "My name is Trigger, and this is Kubari. Yes, we are friends, we're just looking to have a little adventure, like Bari said."

Yep, he was definitely going to catch it for this later.

The sahound didn't seem too friendly. Hm. That made it harder to judge them. Those always against them would be the goody-goody happy kind who thought everything should be happy and nice and friendly. Those who would fight with them may be kinda nice or kinda mean or pure wicked, or just happy and nice but ok with things the goody-goodies wouldn't approve of. It was so hard to tell.
This annoyed Nosakhere, but he made no move to show any negitive feeling. He kept his tails and head high and a bright smile on his face.
Then the odd sahound blue up at Lucy, who knows why. The female was a few paces back, head down, looking horribly pathetic. And he could be wrong, but the accusistion sounded like the canine had met her before. "You know this guy, Luce?" He asked, sounding kind and interested.
"I don't beleive I've met him." She said quietly, but stepped foward and sniffed the air. "No. He must just not like me."
The kuhna stepped forward and introduced the two strangers. He was so happy, so friendly. This was the one Nosakhere would be truely wary of. But suspicions would wait. "No problem, I'm sure I know plenty who would react the same. You are explorers? As are we!"
"Do you know where any oases are? And are you exploring for anything specific? We kinda are, I guess. Not really. Kinda the oppisite according to Khere. We are making sure there is nothing. But would yo--"
"Please, Luce." Nosakhere said, cutting her off before she revealed too much.
Instantly her tails that had raised drooped back into their shy, submissive posistion, and her voice that had gotten loud and shrill dropped back to a whisper, as she realized that she was talking alot again. "Sorry. Don't call you Khere. Yeah. I know."
Nosakhere sighed. She wasn't trusting. No, never, she was as suspicious as him which some how led them to trusting each other. "That reminds me." He said to the strangers, " I appear to have forgotten my manners as well. I am Nosakhere and this is Luc--"
"Are you sure its alright to tell them real names? Can't they use them to find stuff about us? Isn't that dangerous?" Lucy interupted, her voice shrill again. The questions were more simple curiosity than true fear about what the strangers could do with that knowledge.
"Only if we have something we'd want to hide." Nosakhere answered, and turned back to the strangers, "And this is Lucy. She's a bit curious. I must apologize for that."
The whole charade was making him sick. He couldn't act like this for two long.

What strange responses to such simple things he and Kubari had said. Trigger cocked his head and looked at the duo. They weren't just here to explore. Several times, he had seen, the little blood kuhna had almost revealed somthing important, and the Lykuhna who seemed to be in charge had stopped her. How odd. Was there some danger going on here, something he and Kubari should try to escape from?
Most likely not. It smelled like an adventure to Trigger.
"No, nothing specific. Just exploring." He paused for a second, thinking through what he was about to do. Might as well be where the adventure was. "May we join you?"

Kubari nearly snarled at Trigger's question. Man, he may be fun to be around, but he sure can be stupid sometimes. Kubari gave a nervous laugh and turned to Nosakhere, still not feeling comfortable talking to Lucy. "That's an idea, I suppose. Where exactly are you two going? Anywhere in mind?"

Join them? Nosakhere almost laughed aloud at the question. Join them? That could mean so much more than the simple question fore told. Join their little quest, or join their 'cause? Do the lesser and you may as well be doing the other for what help you'd be too it. But he mentally shook off the thoughts, simply keeping his neighborly smile, "Of course, if thats alright with your Sahound friend, of course."
The Sahound didn't actually seem too happy about it. But he seemed to go along. At least as far to inquire about their destination.
Where were they going? Such a question required more thought to answer than was put into asking it. Nosakhere was the kind who didn't put much thought into these things. He knew it in his head, but couldn't translate it out into any sort of speach.
Lucy saw that he was having this trouble. Figured. Big 'oh I can one day be second in command in the Master's army' didn't really put any more thought than that in stuff. But then again, she hadn't either. She'd just been following him. Trust was a funny thing. You claim to have none, but you end up having a leash of it tying you to some one. "Just foward, I guess. Untill we've seen what we need to." She whispered shyly.

Stupid, stupid, stupid. Kubari was kicking himself for playing along with Trigger. But he had thought the two Kuhnas, obviously on a quest that summed up to more that just exploring this cursed place, would have refused the request. But no. Instead the big kuhna, Nosakhere, had accepted. There was definitely something strange going on here. Kubari gave a nervous grin to hide his confusion and nodded at the two kuhnas, showing he would go along with them. Because if he didn't, Trigger still would. And Kubari didn't trust Trigger to be with them by himself. Or rather, he would be scared for them. Trigger was smart, and could be observent, but he was gullible, and loved to be in the middle of things, sometimes in the worst way possible. So if Kubari didn't accompany his Kamo Kuhna friend, it was possible that Trigger could get drawn in to whatever dark deeds Nosakhere and his friend were shooting towards. For there was no doubt in his mind that they were up to no good.

Trigger, oblivious to his friend's raging thoughts, wriggled with delight. "Great! So what can we do to help you two?"

Nosakhere did not trust the sahound. The canine wasn't the best at hiding what was drilling through his head, and the lykuhna could see his suspicious thoughts swirl in his eyes. But the dog still grinned and went a long. Wonderful. Nosakhere would have to loose him or something. But right now it didn't matter. Can't find guilt in one who has nothing to be guilty of, and looking for an oasis in the middle of no where in a desert was nothing to be guilty of.
The kuhna on the other hand...
Lucy was excited that he was so quick to come along. She had similar trust issues as Nosakhere, but still loved to surround herself with others. So this guy was just another 'friend'. And what could he help them with? "We may wanna find an oasis. One of those big ones that water creatures can like... swim in the water! Some of them might be with us!" She said, her tails high and her voice shrill once more. Nosakhere glared at her, but she made no move to slump back into her submissive pose. No, if these people were going to travel with the small kuhna, they were going to learn the consiquences.

"Oasis. Right." Trigger immediately went off to look for one.

Psssh. Trigger was so easily controlled. Kubari shot one last glare at the two kuhnas and padded off after him. "Oasis, my tail. They just want us out of earshot so they can discuss their evil plot or whatever."
"Plot?" Trigger looked confused. They never said anything about a plot."
"Well of course they didn't, stupid, that would be giving it away."
"Awwww, chill out, Kuba."
Kubari snarled at that. "Shut it."
You really hate that, don't you?"
"Yes."
"I'm sorry." Trigger glanced at his friend to see a crease between his eyes as his brow furrowed in worry. Kubari wasn't always the best person to have along with you. He wouldn't have been in Trigger's top three of who to hang out with, anyway. He could be overly perceptive to the point of paranoia. That was something Trigger was going to have to cure. "Cheer up. We're on an adventure! That's what you wanted, right?"
"Not like this. Something's going on."
"Nothing's going on. You'll see." He grinned unexpectedly. "The little kuhna's kinda cute."
Kubari smiled in spite of himself. 'Why don't you go tell her that."

Nosakhere watched as the others padded away. They were helpful for the time being. And that was good. As long as they were helpful they could stay. If they remained helpful, perhaps Master Nafarious would find some favor in them, as well.
"Well... Aren't we gonna go help them find it, or send them off into the under-worldish heat all by themselves just to do something for us? We wanna be likable, right?" Lucy said, braking the male out of his thoughts.
"Lucy..." He said, starting something else. "You gotta be careful. We can't trust them or tell them a thing. We don't want more enimies. No one can become our enimy if they don't know what deeds they are fighting against."
"You don't trust anyone." The blood kuhna pointed out.
"And neither do you, but you know what I mean. Now remember that warning. Are we going to catch up to them?"
She nodded and bounded off. He waited a few seconds, watching her go and finishing his thoughts, before running after her, tongue lolling in the heat in an almost canine manor.
