With temperatures rising over 143°C (289.40°F) in most areas, the only relief is during the nights when it is much cooler. All travelers are advised to keep to the local towns on the desert's outskirts and avoid traveling too far from civilization. (+3 Endurance, +2 Defense)

Wow, it was hot. Shadow walked over the sand, fanning herself. She was a tall girl with long browh hair, which would be quite a disadvatage in the heat. She wore a green sleeveless shirt and light shorts. At hr side was her Kuhna companion, Kai.

"Well, now we just have to wait for Swimmy," Shadow said to Kai. Kai odded. What a great place for war training. She and Shadow would be joining the Purines, to help defend Barakka from the Imperials.

Shadow stared over the horizon squinting; Swimmy would be here soon.

"Ah, yes," Shadow said after a few minutes, more to herself than to Kai. "She said she might be a little late. Maybe we should ready, anyway."

Shadow reached into a white bag she had been carrying before, and pulled out two water bottles and a plastic bowl. She poured a large portion of one of the water bottles into a bowl for Kai, and placed it on the desert floor.

"It's really important that you stay hydrated, especially out here," Shadow said to the Kuhna, drinking some water herself.

Kai began to drink the water. Ah, how nice, clean, and cold it was, especially compared to the overheated temperatures of the desert. What is the usual temperature of the desert? Kai wondered. It has to be above 200 degrees! She thought, lapping up the last of the water. Mmm, it was a good idea to have brought it.

"It doesn't really look like she's coming," Shadow said, looking at her watch. She looked at Kai, pouring more water from her water bottle into her mouth. Mmmm, it was really nice and cold. Shadow reached into her pocket, and pulled out some treats for Kai. Kai ate them, delighted. She swished her tails happily, although really hot.

Shadow stared into the distance for a second, her eyes going blank. Something's going to happen soon, she thought. Maybe we shouldn't train now here and now. Kai looked at Shadow, sensing that something was wrong. She lapped up the last of her water, and looked at her trainer, purring to try and comfort her. Shadow reached out a hand to pet her.

A sound rang from inside Shadow's training bag, which Shadow recognized to be her phone's ringtone. Kai jumped back from the bag, hissing. She had always hated it when Shadow's cell phone rang. The high-pitched ringing noise could cut through almost anything. Shadow picked the phone out of her bag, and flipped it open. "Hello? Oh, hey..." Kai purred. The "evil" ringing of Shadow's phone had stopped.

Shadow finished her conversation. "Swimmy can't come," she said to Kai. She stowed the cell phone in the training bag, and picked up Kai's bowl and water bottle. Even though nothing had really been done, it had still been somehow beneficial... somehow. "C'mon Kai," Shadow said. "Let's go home." Shadow picked the bag up off the ground, and slung it over her shoulder. She walked away towards the breeding center, Kai following her...
