With temperatures rising over 143°C (289.40°F) in most areas, the only relief is during the nights when it is much cooler. All travelers are advised to keep to the local towns on the desert's outskirts and avoid traveling too far from civilization. (+3 Endurance, +2 Defense)

Dragons in the Desert (training/P)

Postby amapup » 06/28/2010 6:54 PM

Image

A puff of green smoke appeared out of nowhere in the desert, and was quickly replaced by a Drakelph. She had heard of the Battle tournament that was going on, and had begged Aussie to let her go out and train. She had finally accepted, so now she was here. This tournament would give her good practice at battle, and would probably help her out when she went on her Moonling Hunt. For now, though, she was focusing on the two most important areas of battle; endurance and toughness.

She had never been here before, and knew many complained of the heat. She actually enjoyed it, though. It warmed up her fur nicely, and she flicked her tail happily. This felt nice.

Not all that far off, a large Paragon landed, lifting her head as she drew in a bit of the desert air.  She had heard of this place from Aila and Taliña; Tali pegged it as a magnificent place to train, and Aila said that it was marvelous for strengthening one.  Alas, Tali was too strong to participate in the tournament, and Aila did not need as much training as she.

After a few seconds, though, she noticed the Drakelph.  Naturally curious, she walked over to it and looked down at it.

"Training as well, I assume?"

There was a thump, and the Drakelph looked up as the breeze from its wings brushed past her. "I am indeed, actually." she replied, nodding her head at the Placid. It was a bright red, standing out against the desert sands. "Doesn't the heat feel nice?" she commented, trying to strike up a conversation with it as she fluffed out her tail to gather more warmth. It was known that Drakels liked the desert, and she was no exception. The Drakelph climbed up one of the sand dunes, so to keep the Paragon from towering too high over her. That would end up awkward.

(Nyera's a Rockbeak. d=)

Nyera gave a slight shrug as she said, "Eh, I don't care for it, but I know that my friend, Aila, would love it here.  She's a complete and total pyro, but I suppose that goes with being a Lavamancer, in her case."

She sat down here, trying her best to not stand too tall over the Drakelph, but after a few seconds, she shook her head and took her human form, her outfit perfectly suited for a little bit of desert training.  "I hope you don't mind me using my human form.  I'm more adjusted to it anyway.  I'm Nyera," she said, smiling.

(riight..... :P )

She shrugged at the Rockbeak's reply. Not all pets cared for heat, though a Lavamacer definetly would. She watched her change into a human. "No that's fine." she said, waving her tail. Now there wasn't as much of a height difference, which suited the Drakelph perfectly. And besides, it looked like her human form was more prepared than her Paragon. "Nice to meet you." she continued, being polite. "I personally don't have a name, I prefer it that way. To me there's not much point in one." She turned her head, scanning the desert curiously. There didn't seem to be anything else besides sand dunes. The sun was starting to get higher, she knew it was truly high in the sky she'd probably be sweltering. But for now it was at a comfortable level.

"I see," Nyera said.  "I can understand that.  I mean, why is somewhat beyond me, but I can understand that.  I know several pets that have no designation at the home I live in, but surely it must get a little confusing when one wishes to speak to you."

She tilted her head as she said this, thinking about what the Drakelph meant when she said that there was not much point to her in having a name.

The Drakelph shrugged at Nyera's comment. "Usually it's the other person that gets more confused than me. But the thing with names is, they have to be Just right. If you don't like it, you have to find one you do. And then you have to make it be just right, because if it means something you don't like, or sounds just a little bit off... and it has to fit your personality, too. Or your personality has to mold to fit the name." She shook her head. "Too much hassle for me." She conjured a small witchlight, and started to toy with it absentmindedly.

Nyera nodded slightly.  "I see.  And I can understand the benefits of that; I mean, it took a while for me to declare my name.  It needed to be something that rolled off of the tongue as well as sound fitting of a someone of my position... back in my other realm, I mean."

She smiled as the other conjured a bit of witchlight; it had always been a curious thing.  Ekal had his Shadows while Aila had her fire.

"So you can understand what I mean." She twisted the light around her 'fingers', before it vanished, leaving no trace. The Drakelph looked at Nyera, curiosity sparkling in her eyes. "Your from another realm?" she asked, interested. She'd heard of pets here from other realms, like the ones the Gods lived on or the Dreamsnares left to, but she'd never really met someone from a realm besides the Evelonian ones. It had always intrigued her how they came here, what there worlds were like, why they left. The topic wasn't quite as fascinating to her for study as moonlings, but it had been a small interest anyways.

"Aye--all twenty-one of us are from a different realm.  There are twenty-one of us that came here from Re'klet, and there will be twenty-one of us for ages to come, methinks," Nyera said, chuckling slightly to herself before she looked back over at the Drakelph, her smile soft and kind.

"If you have any questions for me," she said, stretching out her arms as she said this, "feel free to ask away.  It is uncertain whether or not we will return to Re'klet at all, though."

"Twenty one?" She said, intrest showing in her voice. The Drakelph cocked her head, curious. "Re'klrt, you say it's called? Why did you leave it for Evelon?" She sat down on her haunches, getting into a more comfortable position.

"Aye, twenty-one," Nyera said, chuckling slightly.  "I know it's a lot, but I've heard of realms with more gods than that."

Why did they leave?  Now that was harder to answer.  "Well... it was more like an accident.  Aila and Ekal were working on their elemental powers and they accidentally opened a portal.  We all got dragged through it somehow, and I suppose that it was for the better, in some ways.  Evelon is such a curious realm."

Questions just started bursting out of the Drakelph all at once. "You are all gods? What kinds of gods - like did you have any special abilities or things like that? What kinds of powers do Alia and Ekal have where they can open portals? What sort of forms did you have on Re'klet? And what is Re'klet like?" She was no longer sitting but rather on all fours, her tail bushed out. Excitement shone in her eyes. "Sorry if I'm getting ahead of my self, I've never met someone from a different realm before."

"Whoa, whoa!  One question at a time, my little friend!" Nyera said as she laughed.  "Yes, we are all Gods; I myself am the Goddess of Love.  Aila and Ekal have powers over Music and Darkness--it was some freak accident that allowed the portal to open.  Other Gods include the Goddesses of Fire, Earth, Festivals, Fortune, Light, Harvest, Trickery, the Moon, Wisdom, and the Gods of Life, Death, the Hunt, the Sun, Water, Thunder, Ice, and War--oh, and Storms."

She paused here, thinking.  "Actually... Re'klet and Evelon aren't that different, in terms of our forms.  We all had dragon forms and human forms, although... most of the Pantheon have rather varied forms now, from a Staigovald to a Beetanke to a Carpetfang to even a Polly." Nyera said, laughing.  "And Re'klet was a beautiful place..."

(She'll describe it in the next post.)

The Drakelph listened closely absorbed in what she was saying. "Twenty one gods is a lot." she commented. Her posture became more relaxed, and she leaned back again. She was interested in the description of their forms, though. She could understand most of the forms she listed off, though the Polly seemed a bit out of place; perhaps it was one of the more lighthearted Gods? She was curious as to whether the forms had anything to do with their personalities, but decided that she had already asked enough questions for now.
