Teddy watched them watch him. It was more than a little unnerving.

Ruach chuckled at their assessment of his claws.

[Jessari]

They liked Ruach, Teddy saw. That was all well and good for her, but he had a suspicion that they'd like to eat him if given half the chance.

Ruach waited patiently for their answer.

[Jessari]

Teddy saw the nod and the glance that passed between them. What the heck was that supposed to mean?

"Thank you for your trust," Ruach answered them. "You have our trust as well, Naasade and Charge."

[Jessari]

Before Charge moved away from her, Ruach gave him a quick stroke on the head. "He'll make a fine mate if you choose so. He seems very able."

Teddy couldn't help but stare as Ruach discussed relationships with a cat of all things.

[Jessari]

"We'll follow in the truck," Ruach told Naasade. "We aren't as swift on our feet as you are."

Teddy and Ruach got back in the truck, and they began following the two Khimera.

Naasade stood, brushing sand from her fur. She gave a small snort, shaking her head at Teddy as Charge lead the way. Humans. Charge blinked briefly at the contact of Ruach’s hand, but didn’t seem to mind it.

Naasade trotted in front of the car, keeping her pace somewhat slow. They could keep up easily. And Naasade was still able to speak with them.

She glanced at Ruach. ‘Good. Able. All same. Not choose for looks, choose for strength and mind. Good mind. Good strength. You choose mate same way, yes?’ Charge didn’t seem concerned with their talk. Naasade would wait until they stopped for her answer.

Charge was quite capable of finding the tribe. He could detect their faint heat signature. He took up a brisk pace, Naasade following behind.

It did not take long; they soon came upon a camp. Fires blazed, and people stepped out to welcome them. Charge and Naasade shied from their advances, waiting in the shadows for Ruach and Theo to find them.

Teddy tapped his fingers on the steering wheel, eyes fixed on Charge. He turned his music back on, but kept it low so Ruach could listen to Naasade.

Ruach could barely keep from bouncing in her seat.

[Jessari]

She knew that with Charge leading the way, they'd soon find the tribe. While Teddy followed Charge, she considered Naasade's response.

[Jessari]

She could understand the Khimera's way of thinking; things were different for her, especially since she was involved with the Clones and their battles. Strength played a huge part.

Teddy switched tracks on the CD player, careful not to swerve.

[Jessari]

But for herself, Ruach had different priorities. Corr was missing both of his real arms, due to an explosion. Had he not gotten prosthetics, she was sure she'd still have fallen in love with him.

Teddy glanced over at her, wondering what she was thinking about that kept her so quiet.

[Jessari]

And then they were there. Ruach and Teddy climbed from the truck. Teddy grabbed the bundles of trading supplies out of the back of the truck and carried them over to set them in front of the truck.

As he did so, Ruach took the opportunity to answer Naasade's question. "All humans are different. Some look for strength and ability, others look for appearance. I'm just lucky that Corr had all of those."

Then she stepped forwards to greet the people coming to meet them.
