With temperatures rising over 143°C (289.40°F) in most areas, the only relief is during the nights when it is much cooler. All travelers are advised to keep to the local towns on the desert's outskirts and avoid traveling too far from civilization. (+3 Endurance, +2 Defense)

Temple of Mysteries

The heat of the Wilt'no desert is stifling, it shimmers off of the ground in waves and there is no water or shade in sight, just dunes upon dunes of sand. It's a wonder that there is anyone out here at all, and even more of a wonder that you are out here braving the heat and burning sands for no apparent reason.

There is a particularly large sand dune nearby, and hoping to find some shade you come across some ruined columns and other masonry strewn about, a temple or building of some sort must have once stood here. Investigating further you come across an entrance which has been almost completely buried by time, it's not a main entrance though, it seems that it may lead into some tunnels or catacombs. On a mostly intact wall is a plaque that someone has kindly put up, it seems worn and the writing is archaic, it was probably mounted before the building fell, with some difficulty you read it:

Here stands Amunet Temple,
Temple of the Goddess of Mysteries,
Enter at your own peril,
Amunet is a fickle Goddess.

Hmm, that doesn't seem very promising, but then who believes in real life deities nowadays anyway?

Further in again you find a stone bowl with yet another plaque;

Leave your offerings to the Goddess here.

The bowl is stained red in places and you wonder what sort of offering this Goddess requires, still it is cool inside the partly ruined tunnel, it might be an idea to stay and cool off for a bit at least until the sun eases off, besides the footprints and scuffing of sand on the tunnel floor suggest that several visitors use the tunnel just for such a purpose, so what could possibly happen?

(Fear the mild god-modding XD – I'll try not to do it but I needed to set the scene)
ImageImage

Come down from the mountain, you have been gone too long

The world is alive now, in and outside our home

You run through the forest, settle before the sun

Darling, I can barely remember you beside me

You should come back home, back on your own now

Was it a mirage?  Too good to be true?  As soon as Kira came and sat in the cool shade, she knew that it had to be real.  It was such a relief to find somewhere to shade her from the sun, since she had been panting so much she was sure her tounge was about to fall out.  The beating sun had seemed to mess with her mind a bit and right now she couldn't seem to recall why she even came through the desert...  All she knew was at the time it seemed like a good idea, but now...  Well, she felt kinda stupid.

After a while of laying in the relaxing shade, Kira found herself drifting off to sleep...  She woke up some hours later with half of her body now lying in the sun whereas when she first fell asleep she had been completely in the shade.  Getting up and stretching, she looked around the ruins again.  She was a little bit afraid of the place, but...  It's not like anything could still live here, right?

...Right?

I think back to the time when my search first began,
I left behind those shores of sand
For the endless everlasting world out there.

I know that with this burning passion driving me
Someday, somewhere I'll finally see
The light I have searched for everywhere!

[The human form is for the Meji]

Words could not describe how Rowan was feeling right now. Actually, maybe they could.

Annoyed.

Although it could not have been more than 45 minutes that they had been traveling, Rowan's feet were aching, her brow was sweating profusely, and her throat was as dry as the endless seas of sand around them. And boy, they were endless.

Next to her, his buzz faltering a bit and his wings moving in a slower motion, Squig was struggling not to get left behind as his master trudged on. He did not think that there was any way he could handle being left way out here, in the unbearable heat, alone. That was a slow and painful death that he would not wish on the worst of his enemies. Then again, he didn't really have enemies. Angst balls didn't usually, now did they?

"Squig?" Rowan asked carefully. The Angst Ball's attention was immediately on his master. She was peering off into the distance, her eyes narrowed with confusion. When Squig followed her gaze however, he noticed the source of her quiet excitement. "Do you see what I see?" Rowan glanced at her companion, who nodded enthusiastically and dashed off to the large pool of darkness.

"Shade!" Rowan exclaimed, following her minion in happiness.

Looking back, she had wished she had just continued along with her business. But by now, it was too late.

ImageImage (She'll be in her human form)

It wasn't often that Adi had escaped the smothering grips of her tavern, and when Ve had told her to take a weekend to herself this was certainly not what she'd expected she'd be doing. Once more she'd gotten herself mixed up in using a map to get to the coastal town of Medicai City, sadly that same map had blown away from her some time ago. So here she was, wandering the dunes which oddly all looked about the same, hoping to find her way out of the desert. Then again Adi wasn't so sure this wasn't relaxing as she made her way over the large sand dune, a little thing like heat had never bother a half hell hound.

The whole temple, or at least what was left of it, was an impressive thing indeed. Adi gave it a second look over before she got close enough to read the writings, "Oh, dear..."fickle Goddess" has never ended well has it?" She mused to herself noting the bowl which demanded an offering. Her time spent with Ankita had taught her never to miss an required offering, and the bowl itself gave a hint to what it wanted. "Nothing lost, nothing gained." She murmured quietly removing the knife from her boot, with a scary kind of dexterity she slid the sharp blade across her palm; letting the blood spill into the bowl before her as she replaced the blade to its rightful place in her boot.

When the wound had stopped weeping bloody tears Adi maneuvered herself towards the entrance, a bit dizzy from the sudden blood loss. She took note that others had passed this way, odd she'd heard before that few traveled through the center of the desert. Now dizzy and on high alert in case the prints were left by something other than weary travelers, Adi moved just inside the doorway. Red eyes probing the darkness for signs of life, or movement; all the while she wished she'd brought Grom or even that annoying Gabe with her. Still the cool air was welcoming to her, and she decided it couldn't hurt to venture a little further and see what she'd made the demand offering for exactly.

Bottles smashed, I raised my hand
How can you all even stand?
And why is there joy in this poison? Oh
Faking smiles and confidence
Driving miles to capture this excitement
I can't take anymore

You're never gonna get it
I'm a hazard to myself
I'll break it to you easy
This is hell, this is hell
You're looking and whispering
You think I'm someone else
This is hell, yes
I am in hell

Creet
He had been walking through the Wilt'no for who knows how long. He was tired, he was just waiting for a moment where he could stop for a quick rest. As he approached the dune and noticed the columns, his heart jumped almost out of his mouth. Finally, he could take a quick breather, then get back to his traveling.
He then stumbled onto the plaque, queer it was. He had never seen such a thing in all of his travels, so there was no way he was going to pass up a chance to take a look.
He then noticed a girl cut her hand, allowing the blood to fill a stone bowl. He gasped lightly, but before he could call her to stop, she had walked into the temple. Shouldering his large bag, he ran after her.
"Madam! Madam please, you need medical attention!"

Grace had been wondering the desert for quite some time now. She had wanted to go out and explore after a long days work at the archeological dig, but her protector, Alastair, had advised against it, saying that it was too hot and she was too tired. But the ashen kuhna hadn't listened. She didn't like to rest, and would rather go out in the desert for a day than go to sleep. She could never have too much of the desert. She loved the heat and the sun, no matter how much she was advised against heat stoke and other heat related diseases...

But this heat was really extreme, nothing she had experienced for a long time. Maybe it was the lack of shade that was getting to her. She was usually near a building where there was shade, but out here there was nothing, just dunes... Okay, so maybe the bramble penticorn had been right, it was way too hot to be traveling in the desert. She sighed, plopping down in the sand. She rested for a bit and took a drink from the water she carried with her. The water was warm, but felt nice going down her parched throat. She closed her eyes, ready for a nap, but knowing that wasn't a wise decision. She stood up and looked around, trying to catch her bearings.

Wait, what was that? She squinted her eyes, looking at the figure. It looked like some kind of rune. Her eyes widened with surprise, even she didn't know of such a thing this far out in the desert. She had to investigate. She began to walk over to the rune.

When she reached the rune she immediately took comfort in the shade it offered, but didn't rest for long. She ran her hand over the letters, marveling at the way they were chiseled into the stone. If only she had brought her tools... Oh well, at least she could admire the handy-work of the ancient people.

As she looked around she noticed the bowl with the inscription. An offering? Well, she didn't really want to offer what the bowl wanted, but how else would she get inside and see what else this place had to offer? She took her pocket knife out of her pack and slit a thin line on her wrist, letting the blood tickle out and into the bowl. After a few drips she bandaged the wound and waited to see what happened. Would a secret door open up like they did in the movies? All she had to do was wait and find out...

And I was runnin' far away
Would I run off the world someday?
Nobody knows
Nobody knows, and
I was dancing in the rain
I felt alive and I can't complain

The next to enter were two humans, a man and a young girl. The man was tall, broad-shouldered, and even though his posture was relaxed, there was a sense of alertness about him that might have made the more astute compare him to a large cat or other predator. His hand rested lightly upon the shoulder of the girl, guiding her forwards into the relative coolness of the shade.

The girl looked to be 8, possibly 9 years of age. She was dark-skinned, slender, and barely came up to his waist. A strip of cloth was bound around her eyes, and it was apparent that she relied upon her companion for direction. Her face tilted upwards as she felt the air around her cool a bit. "Where are we, Vitya?" she asked, her voice just as tiny as her body.

"I'm not quite certain." While the child's voice held merely a hint of a Russian accent, the man's words were thick with it. He glanced around, red eyes seeing everything - the plaque, the bowl, the fresh blood, the tracks on the floor. "Interesting..."

Another child in her position would probably be impatient, pestering him with questions, but she simply stood there, reaching up with questing fingers to take hold of his hand. Viktor gave her hand a gentle squeeze, then led her forwards to the bowl. He hesitated for a moment, not afraid of giving what the plaque implied, but wondering whether it was wise to bring the child along. He couldn't leave her here, though. She'd be much safer by his side, as she always was.

Transferring her grip from his hand to the fabric of his shirt, VIktor pulled a knife from his pocket and swiped it across his palm. As crimson trickled from the wound and into the bowl, he dug with his other hand in the small bag swung across his shoulder and withdrew a bandage.

Kisa's head tilted again, and she sniffed the air curiously. "Vitya?" she asked. Her voice was pitched higher now, afraid of what the scent of blood meant. "Have no fear, little bird," he said soothingly. "It is only a little scratch, an entrance fee."

Her hand reached for her blindfold, ready to lift it, but his now-bandaged hand caught hers. "Net, zolotoi. You will not suffer for me, sweet. I am happy to bear this alone. Now, let us find out what mysteries my blood has bought us."

And with that, they ventured further down the tunnel.

Hakai walked into the tunnel without any kind of fear and sat down close to the entrance, happy to have found a place to rest. While he was no stranger to the desert, the heat still affected him and he imagined that it was even worse for Ashur. Not that he cared about Ashur or anything, but still.

Ashur followed his Spiritbond partner into the cool tunnel just a moment later, having a bit of trouble thanks to his size. He folded his wings as well as he could to fit inside better. He was glad to have found this place during his flight, even though he had never heard of it before. At least the people in the settlement closest to here had failed to mention it. "We should stay close to the entrance, Hakai. This might be a dangerous place, after all."

The Lucain scoffed. "Since when are you such a chicken, Ashur? Between my power and your healing abilities you like to use on every silly injury we ever come across, there should be little we can not face. That said, if you want to stay here, I certainly won't object. I, for one, want to go a bit deeper. It's bound to get cooler there." Hakai stood up and, without looking back, walked further into the temple.

Ashur, of course, followed close. "Have you not seen the plaque?"

"Of course I have. What do I care for a goddess I have never heard about? Should she step into my way, I will slay her. It's as easy as that." Hakai stopped in front of the stone bowl. "Now look at that."

"Hmm. It looks like blood." Ashur sighed. "Let's leave, Hakai, I don't like this."

"But I sure as hell do. I'm not leaving. This is just my type of adventure, Ashur." Hakai unceremoniously bit his paw and held it over the bowl, letting his blood stain it until it was filled. "There. That should do nicely."

Ashur sighed again and bent down, touching Hakai's paw gently. The injury healed and Ashur nodded, satisfied. "If I would leave, you would follow", the Seraphent stated. "Our Spiritbond forces you to, for separation would mean your fatal wounds would reopen."

"I'm not dumb, Ashur, I know that. That said, it's not as if you would leave anyway. You're too nice to just leave me to die here after you so graciously saved me in the first place. I know I'm stuck with you, if I want it or not." Hakai looked at his paw, by now long used to Ashur healing his wounds. "So let's see if something happens now."

Ashur sat down to wait. "I suppose we do that then", the Seraphent gave up and agreed. "Well, at least it really is not as hot here..."

I know my dreams are made of you
Of you and only for you
Your ocean pulls me under
Your voice tears me asunder
Love me before the last petal falls

However cold the wind and rain
I'll be there to ease your pain
However cruel the mirrors of sin
Remember beauty is found within

With much grinding and scraping a stone door slides quickly down behind the latest newcomers, closing off the open end of the tunnel and any hope of escape for the impromptu gathering. Everyone is plunged into darkness and silence momentarily.

Slowly on the right side wall of the tunnel seven symbols come to light above seven stonework doors.

Image
ImageImage

In the pale light from the sun-like symbols the far end of the tunnel can be seen choked with rubble. It seems that if you want to get out of here your only option is to choose a door and hope for the best!

Note: You don't have to choose a seperate door each, you may go through the same door as someone else if you want (though I will probably find some way of splitting you up if you do *insert evil laugh here*). Simply state in your next post which colour symbol you have chosen in bold (along with the required five sentences of roleplay of course). And please remember to stick to posting order, thank you. LET THE FUN AND GAMES BEGIN! :D

While Kira was preoccupied trying to decide whether to explore a bit or get the hell out of there, she heard a noise behind her.  Spinning around, she saw that the door was... closing!  With a start she sprang to try to get out, but stopped in mid-step seeing that it was already too late and if she tried to slip through she would be crushed.  A few seconds later she found herself engulfed in darkeness... too much darkness.  A chill ran down her spine as she turned back around to face the rest of the room.  For a second she thought she heard voices, as if other people were here.  Perhaps they had arrived when she was sleeping?  Or maybe they weren't people at all, but this goddess... what was her name... Amunet?  That was what it had said on the stone bowl...  Kira slowly got up and walked over to the bowl, looking curiously inside.  Her stomach lurched.  It was full now... it hadn't been before... with a mysterious red liquid.  She hadn't seen who had filled it and now she wasn't sure if she wanted to.  She tried not to think about what that liquid was.

Taking a deep breath, Kira decided that she should try to find another way out of there.  A fain glow caught her attention as she turned toward the right side of the tunnel.  The glow lit the room to a small extent and she could now see other figures in the room with her.  She almost screamed out loud but tried to control herself.  She wasn't sure if the others had noticed her yet, but she was a little scared of what would happen if they did.  After all, she didn't know who they were... or what they were...

Just find a way out of here...  Just find a way out... she continued to tell herself in her mind.  Slowly creeping along the wall closer to the strange glowing light, she directed her attention to the yellow sun.  It looked kinda like the sundancer markings on herself and was even colored close to that, so out of the doors in front of her, she decided that was the one she trusted to lead the way out.  With a deep breath she hurried over to the door, trying to avoid the other creatures in the room for fear that they might be zombies or mummies or something.  It didn't look like it, but... she still didn't want to stay around them.

Slam.

What. The. Hell?

Immediately Rowan and Squig exchanged worried glances, and at once her wand was unleashed and grasped tightly in her hand. She cleared her throat and waved it once. Feu sparks JE convoquer toi coup ton temple et me sauver!

Squig ducked behind a fallen stone pillar as the fire sparks shot out from his master's wand and towards the door. There was a small explosion and he shut his beady little eyes as tight as possible, wincing slightly as the hot wind swept over his fur and tormented his wings. His breaths got heavier when suddenly the thought of his master's safety came to mind, and he jumped up from his hiding place, wings drooping with shame by running away from his master. He was never supposed to leave her side.

The smoke was evaporating, slowly but surely. Rowan bit her lip in anticipation, feeling a little better when her minion's familiar buzzing was in her ear. She waited...and waited...and waited...

Nothing. Nothing?

"We're...stuck." She whispered to Squig, whose eyes were getting wider. Rowan spun around wildly, eyes searching for anywhere out. She could already feel claustrophobia setting in and her vision getting a little blurry.

Just another unfortunate effect of not being a skilled wizard.

"Squig look, a door!" She exclaimed, gripping her wand tightly. The door didn't look so safe, but they had no other choice. She bit her bottom lip. "Come on."

At the sound of a voice calling after her Adi stopped moving a bit inside the temple hall, spinning quickly she faced the man who was following after her. her dizziness had subsided, leaving her vision clearer than it had been and her step more steady. He didn't seem malicious, nor did he look like he could have had the intent to attack her. As he neared she gave him a friendly smile, "Ay, its but a scratch." She told him, extending her now scabbed hand for him to see. "I've seen worse than this." If he looked any further up her arm he would have seen it was riddled with scars and marks, reminders of her training as a creature of war. Truth be told she'd seen much worse, she thought to herself with a deep sigh.

It wasn't that long before the door slid itself shut, blackening the room around them. To her eyes though the lighting had changed little, as her pupils dilated wide to allow her vision. "A fickle goddess with a mind for games it would seem. Traps and tricks." She had to kept down the barking laugh she felt bubbling in her chest, this would be an amusing thing indeed. It reminded her of the demon castle she'd once called home, and the time spent out witting the guardsmen. Still if it was a game this lady of mystery desired then Adi herself was more than happy to oblige her, the faint light illuminated the symbols in her vision. Burning red gold eyes swept the possible routes, "Given and returned." She laughed as she casually made her way through the doorway, she would see if the gain was worth its price.

Scratch? Just a scratch? Creet shook his head, no simple scratch bled like that.
"I'm sorry, I must protest miss--" He wasn't able to finish what he was saying, the entrance slamming shut behind him.
Now he was trapped, and was going to be behind with his travelling.
"Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear..." He mumbled, reaching out into the darkness.
He bumped into a few of the others that were there, apologizing over and over as he did so. His stumbling was eventually stopped when a few lights broke through the darkness.
The lights were symbols above doors, and it seemed they were to choose one. This just had a bad feeling wrapped all around it. Creet shivered under his coat, and looked around as a few chose their door.
Are they nuts! He shouted in his head.
Creet wasn't one to let something fun or interesting pass up, but this was just to much. He looked back again, no way he could chicken out. He sighed, he would have to go forward.
Shouldering his bag again, he slowly walked through the door way and onto who know's what.

As soon as the walls around her closed Grace jumped a little bit. She had been expecting something, but maybe not that noise. She tried to feel the walls, trying to see if there were any ruins on these walls too. But, alas, there was nothing strange about these walls, they were just solid stone.

As she stood in the darkness around her she saw the seven lights appear. Each was a different color and probably had something different behind them. She watched the others chose their doors before choosing her door. She hadn't realized there were others till that moment. Well, she didn't want to follow any of them, as she liked her own adventures.

She stepped forward and entered a door. It was dark here as well, she hoped that was only momentarily.

Orange.

And I was runnin' far away
Would I run off the world someday?
Nobody knows
Nobody knows, and
I was dancing in the rain
I felt alive and I can't complain

At the ominous noise, Kisa shrank against Viktor's side with a quiet breath that was almost a whimper. He settled his arm about her shoulders protectively, eyes darting about the enclosed space in search of any possible threat. All the other occupants looked as if they had been caught off-guard as well, so he turned from studying them to studying the walls.

At first, he couldn't see anything through the darkness. Then several symbols began to glow, lighting up seven doorways. One by one, the other beings chose their doors and passed through them. He watched them go. Had it been only him who had given the goddess a 'donation' of blood, he would possibly have chosen to pass through a door someone else had already picked. But with other wounds walking about, he couldn't risk Kisa's blindfold slipping. He couldn't risk anyone else finding out what she could do.

"Pink or purple, sweet?" he asked, sounding almost as if he offered her a choice of candy.

"I think...umm...purple?" Kisa sounded a little confused, unable to see what he was talking about. With one smooth movement, Viktor lifted the small girl into his arms and walked through the door.

Purple
Feed me chicky nuggies and chokky milk.
