He didn't know why, exactly, he was here. Only that he had to find his son. Navvi had never thought that his son would become what he was. Navvos, killing people? It seemed improbable. Yet here Navvi was, searching for his son, a fugitive from the law.

He had to find his son. Navvi just had to. Even if his son had turned into a killer, Navvi still cared. He would always forgive Navvos. Even now, Navvi was willing to give his life for his son. Hopefully, though, it wouldn't come to that. Still, if it did, Navvi would be ready.

The heat was beginning to get to Navvi. His steps were faltering. Sweat poured into his eyes, blinding him. All exposed skin, which was most of it, was burnt and blistering. Navvi had to get to shelter, and soon. The only problem was, he didn't know which way he could find shelter. He was a stranger in these parts. Sure, he had traveled a lot before. But not here - he was always too smart to travel here.

Navvi’s vision was becoming blurry. This wasn’t good, he knew. If he passed out here, he’d be dead. And yet he wasn’t sure he could keep on. He tried to keep walking, but in vain. He fell to his knees.

Even now, he couldn’t stop. Despite the burning heat of the sand, he kept on. His vision was obscured, but Navvi had to get somewhere. He had to find civilization. On hands and knees, he continued. He had known that this desert might kill him. But he had braved it for his son.

Suddenly, he spotted an oasis! It had to be a mirage, though. Surely an oasis wouldn’t magically appear just when he needed it? Still, it was the only place he had to go towards. He continued crawling. “Water,” he croaked. “Need…water.”

This couldn’t be happening. Navvi couldn’t die. His son needed him. He had to keep pressing on. Even though he felt horrible. He had to keep going.

“Someone, please help me.” Navvi continued calling. No one could hear him. But he had to keep trying. “I need help. I need water. I need to find my son.”

He just kept crawling. There was nothing left to do. He had to reach his son. If it killed him, so be it. He just had to find his son. He had to save him.

Navvi was dying. He couldn’t stop the inevitable. He wasn’t going to save his son. Even then, he kept moving. Even as he lost hope, he crawled on. He must keep going. He couldn’t stop.

The oasis was so close. It was too bad it was an illusion. Navvi was so close to living…in a dream. If only dreams were real. But if that were so, then he wouldn’t be in this situation. Navvos would be safe at home, and so would Navvi.

Well, that was odd. Navvi could feel grass beneath his fingers. Apparently this mirage was quite in depth. He didn’t know that you could feel mirages, though. And yet he did. The feeling of grass between his fingers was quite pleasurable. Again, he wished it were real.

Now, Navvi could hear water. The sound of waves lapping was so calming. Navvi almost wanted to lay down and sleep. But he couldn’t sleep. To sleep, was to die. He had to keep moving. Keep moving towards the mirage oasis…

This really wasn’t fair. Navvi was only trying to help his son. Couldn’t he at least die in peace? Why did he have to be tortured? Why the mirage? Wasn’t death enough?

Navvi wanted to cry. At any other time, he would have. But he had no tears, now. The heat had dried them all. He had no moisture left in his body, it seemed. He was going to die of dehydration.
