Yoshi waved her hand, her smile widening. “Then the monocle is yours. If you don’t want the spirits, that’s fine. They’re incredibly handy for getting rid of pesky enemies and such.” She shrugged and looked unconcerned, but when she saw the symbol on Morwena’s hand, her smile faltered just the slightest, and her brow furrowed. “Interesting,” she murmured, her smile instantly back in place. “I have never heard of something like this. However…I may have something you could wear that would allow you to be able to touch things and not feel pain.”

She skipped down the lines of pillars and stopped at one, grabbing something from it and skipping back over. “Here!” She held out what looked like sheer, shimmering material in the shape of two gloves. “There’s two of them, but you probably won’t need them both. After you put them on, they will disappear into your skin, and only you can remove them. When worn, they will allow the user to perform advanced healing techniques and spells without any knowledge of the healing arts. They will allow you to send healing energy to your hand on a constant basis, making it bearable to touch.”

"Thank you kindly!" The monocle and the bracelet would already serve him more than well and with having one item more to pick and two for Morwena, Bentner wondered if he could maybe even manage to murder that pesky king who was ruling Pandovia right now.

"My, what useful things you have here! How much magic do these constant spells drain, though?" Morwena asked. Then she picked up the gloves. "Oh dear goodness, they're not green! Deary, do you have those in other colors? I only wear green because my Dear told me I look best in it!"

"Years ago and I wasn't even thinking about it...", Bentner mumbled. Why was that woman so bothersome? He would simply order her to try on the gloves if it turned out that the magic wouldn't be too draining.

“You’re very welcome, of course!” Yoshi exclaimed, throwing her arms wide. She turned to Morwena. “They do not require any magic. They simply require the user to have a sufficient life force. As long as you are alive, the gloves will work. They won’t put a strain on any of your energy unless you’re performing complicated healing spells or techniques. But for what you want them for, they’d take about the same energy as you use to bat an eyelash or sneeze.” Yoshi blinked; Green? “Oh, well, if you want, I can paint them for you. Humans might be weak, but they certainly have strange things. I found this amazing magical item they use called ‘finger paints.’ They're so fun to play with! Humans use them to create artistic masterpieces, so I do too! I’ve made so many beautiful art pieces to hang all over the walls of Hueco Mundo! Haven’t I, Halibel-sama?” She glanced over her shoulder, and the blonde woman nodded, though when Yoshi turned, she looked vaguely amused. Those ‘beautiful art pieces’ were crudely finger painted stick figures that were supposed to represent the residents of the castle. “I bet my finger-paints could make those green!”

"That sounds amazing!" Morwena beamed. It would be so nice to not have to watch if something was about to brush against the curse anymore. Then, she paused. 'Finger paint'? That couldn't possibly be what she was thinking about, seeing as Yoshi had called it magical and Tia seemed at least agreeing - surely, a ruler wouldn't allow a child's drawings in her hallways! So it was probably a magical item from another world and the name just happened to be the same. "That would be so wonderful! I would love to have them green!"

"I wouldn't even be able to see them, woman", Bentner commented. If Tia and Yoshi were already so nice to them, putting extra work on Yoshi would hardly do.

"But you would know that they are there, Dear! And Yoshi just said that she has fun using this magical paint and I'm interested in seeing all magical items. You taught me to be!" Morwena looked at Bentner, a bit confused. Bentner slightly shook his head, but well, since it was probably some item from another world, seeing it would probably be useful even if it was paint.

“Oh great!’ Yoshi exclaimed, bouncing happily and clapping her hands. “I’ll be right back!” She disappeared with an audible pop, and there was silence for a moment before the quiet was punctuated by the sound of Tia slapping her forehead. “You have no idea…” she muttered, and from the way her eyes crinkled, it looked as though she was grimacing behind her jacket. Before she could elaborate, Yoshi reappeared, her arms laden with paints of all colors and brushes and papers. “I brought some of my beautiful art to show you!” she said excitedly as she laid the paint holder on the ground and started rifling through brushes. She held up a few pictures for Morwena and Bentner to see; they displayed stick figures of different colors, with their names written above them and arrows pointing to each person.

There was a crude drawing of what looked like a house, with the words ‘Las Noches’ painted above it, and a giant circle that just said ‘the moon’ behind it. “Aren’t they beautiful?” Her cheeks puffed up with her smile. It was obvious this paint was nothing more than average, ordinary paint. She held her hands out for the gloves. “I can make them green now, if you want! But you have to let them dry before putting them on! Halibel-sama doesn’t like it when I get paint on the white walls.” She lowered her voice to whisper conspiratorially. “Of course, I think the walls would look better with my beautiful art on them, but Halibel-sama says it’s better if everything is white.”

Having already been a bit confused by Tia's behavior, Bentner and Morwena, keeping their magical items behind steel doors and magical shields to make sure they are safe, both felt like someone had slapped them when they looked at the 'beautiful art'. Both were also very aware of the fact that displeasing Yoshi would not do, since they wanted some more items.

"Oh...my. This is really exceptional art, deary!" Morwena commented after a second of thought (which she hoped to mask as absolute awe). "In no museum in our world have I ever seen something like this!" It wasn't even a lie...

When Yoshi held her hands out for the gloves, Bentner wasn't sure who he wanted to strange the most: Himself for having believed that a dragon who loved weird silver wrapping paper was an artist, Morwena for her dumb wishes which had caused this all, Tia for letting her subordinate potentially ruin a very valueable artifact with paint or Yoshi for thinking that dousing a magical artifact in paint was a good idea. "Lady, will this be good, though? If there is paint on the gloves, I would imagine that Morwena couldn't wear them anymore. The paint would not be part of the original item and just be a layer on top of the fabric, so not only would it potentially not get invisible or even block the glove's magic, it would also cause Morwena's tattoo to trigger and make her faint at the touch."

"O-oh my, s-so smart, Dear!" Morwena was very, very glad that her Dear was such a quick thinker. She also had the suspicion that for potentially causing the ruin of a magical item, she would sleep in the kitchen for a long time. But still, this wasn't her item but Yoshi's and as such, she couldn't just stop the girl from her idea if she really wanted to go through with it. Unhappily, she did hand the gloves to Yoshi, hoping that the dragon-girl would see how wise Morwena's Dear was.

“It is, isn’t it?” Yoshi beamed, observing the ‘artistic masterpieces’ in front of her. “I really outdid myself with this one.” She pointed at the picture with four separate stick figures. One was painted in purple, one in gold, one in brown, and another in green. The labels above listed them as Sung-sun, Tia, Apacci and Mila Rose, respectively. “This was my best work yet. It looks just like Halibel-sama and the Tres Bestia!” She cooed over the picture for a second, before picking up a brush. She was halfway to dipping it into the green paint before Bentner’s words stopped her. Her face fell briefly, and she sagged back to the floor. “Oh…well…I guess you’re right…” She set the brush down and stood, looking at the gloves critically.

“Well…I can paint you a masterpiece if you want one!  Portrait of the two of you! I can’t guarantee it’ll be as good as that one-” she pointed at her masterpiece of the king and her subordinates. “-but it’ll be good.” Halibel cleared her throat. “Why don’t you find them another item first? Something that channels their magic.” Yoshi looked thoughtful for a moment, before she skittered off and returned holding two barrettes shaped like little stars in her hand. “I got these form the human world. They help to channel your magic…or in our case, your spiritual energy, into a defensive and healing form, as well as a bit of offensive. The offense isn’t entirely that great, but it makes a neat, nifty shield and can heal people and stuff.”

"I would love a picture with me and my Dear on it", Morwena commented at once. She was just glad that the gloves were spared right now. Of course, the idea that someone would dare to draw her most handsome Dear as a stick figure didn't sit well with Morwena, but if it was the best that Yoshi could do, then maybe her Dear would be an...extremely handsome stick figure.

This still left Morwena wondering what to do with the gloves, though - even if she would wear them, she had the idea that putting them on before they started working might result in them touching her skin first and therefore lots of pain. But that idea was pushed back when Yoshi came with the hairclips. "My! How cute they are!" Morwena picked one up. It - again - wasn't green, but if they were meant to be worn in hair anyway, contact with other things wouldn't ruin them and she could just attach a green pearl to hers. "We have no healing magic so far, so these could really come in...oh my..."

"Dear, of course we wouldn't wear them at the same time! I would never dare to wear something you are wearing, it's not my place and the last thing I want is others believing that we are going for a partner-look when we are not...oh." Morwena turned to Bentner, who looked at the barrette as if it had personally offended him and immediately understood the real problem. "Dear, I'm sure it would look wonderful on you!" she commented at once. "And you could hide it under your hat? I- oh, don't worry, Dear, I'm sure you have enough hair still to wear it...probably. Ah..." Even Morwena had to admit that the idea of her Dear wearing something like that was slightly funny. Slightly. She would never make fun of her Dear, after all.

Bentner sighed. "Do they have to be worn to work?" he asked simply.

Yoshi grinned widely, but when Tia cleared her throat, she decided the drawing could wait a little while, at the very least. “Those barrettes cannot be separated. They can only be worn by a single user,” she instructed, pointing at them. “You have to channel your magic into them to activate their powers. By saying ‘I reject,’ you will be able to heal, attack or put up a shield at will, depending on which you choose.” She stared between Bentner and Morwena, as if wondering what the problem was, before she finally understood. “They have to be worn, but you can clip them to your sleeve, or your coat, or even your hat. They don’t necessarily have to be worn in the hair, if that’s what’s worrying you.”

She giggled slightly, twirling in a circle. “I have something else you might liiikkke!” she sang, flouncing off and reappearing with a small, tidy looking book. “You said you were researchers, right? Well, this book will write down anything and everything you find and tell it, as well as allowing you to…record practical demonstrations. You simply need to place your hand on the cover and allow it to absorb the thoughts and imagery you want it to contain. Simple enough.”

"See, Dear!" Absolutely relieved, Morwena clapped her hands. "And magic items that need to be used in pairs are so rare in our world, too! They would make a good subject not only for use but also for reasearch!"

"That is true." Bentner was still not thrilled by the idea of having stars anywhere on him, but he could just leave them to Morwena, after all. "How strong is the healing spell? We are able to use magic shields already, so this would probably only come in handy for the restorative magic." He took the hairclips to get a closer view, but then looked up more than interested when Yoshi came back with the book and handed her the barrettes back to look closer at the book instead. "Now this is something that sounds really interesting! How much can it contain? That would indeed make our work much easier. The amount of papers on my desk is horrifying."

"Indeed, Dear!" Morwena was really interested in the book as well. If this had a bigger amount of information storage than it appeared to have from the outside, this was probably what her Dear would love the most! She beamed happily for a second - and then froze. Quickly, she looked around, remembering the paint. "Deary! With you running around here, we should get both the gloves and the paint out of the way! Imagine you or any of us would accidently spill your precious paint over the gloves or even over your masterpieces, ruining them!" She dragged Yoshi down with her, then slowly pulling the brush out of the paint. "Deary, listen", she then whispered to Yoshi, making sure her Dear was still busy with the book and couldn't listen in. "Do you have any item that...well..." Morwena hesitated. But well, even though this girl painted stick figures and called them art, she had also not even flinched at the mentioning of sex toys and blowjobs, so... "My Dear, he is a bit older. He's amazing in bed, but thanks to his age, he, well, he can't have sex as often as he could a few years ago anymore. Do you have any item that would help with that problem without giving him a heart attack or higher blood pressure or anything? I would love to have him over me every day again! Or maybe even more than that..." She giggled and grinned happily at Yoshi. This was clearly what Morwena wanted the most of all.

“Well, I’ve never seen it used personally, but it’s supposedly powerful enough to bring back missing limbs and heal just about anything except well…death.” She took the barrettes back, holding them in her little hands and peering over at the book. “Infinite,” she said simply. “There is no limit to what it can hold, and it will never get bigger than what it is now. It’s rather intriguing. I don’t exactly know how that can work, but that’s the gist of it.” She smiled happily, but when Morwena mentioned the paints, she nearly recoiled in horror at the thought of her beloved, magical paint being spilled. She allowed Morwena to drag her down, and as she gathered the paints in her arms, setting the caps back on tightly, she leaned in to listen.

When Morwena explained, she giggled brightly, not seeming concerned by the topic. “I do indeed have something sort of the like!” she chirped in a quieter voice. “Come help me put the paints over on the pedestal over there,” she said, nodding her head towards the far wall. “I can’t carry them all and my masterpieces!” She led Morweana towards the wall, setting her paint tubs down on one of the pedestals and reaching out to take something from one on the opposite side. “This is…the closest thing I can give you, I’m afraid,” she said quietly, holding out a ring.

“This ring allows the wearer to revert to the age of their youth when they were the most powerful - around the mid twenties or so. As long as they wear this, their body will, essentially, be in it’s twenties, and function like a normal adult, instead of an older human, so no worries of blood pressure or heart attacks or anything old humans suffer from.” She set the gold ring, carved with intricate details and set with a red stone, into Morwena’s hand. “Will that work?”

"Now that is impressive..." Healing limbs was nothing any magic in Pandovia could do. Suddenly, Bentner felt far more interested in these clips. The book, however, was still the most impressive thing to him. He wondered how it would work - how the book would display whatever the user would wish to re-read - since the amount of pages was clearly limited, but if it recorded by thought, then probably somewhat like this... This was clearly something Bentner could figure out.

Morwena eagerly helped to carry the paint and so-called art and set them down where Yoshi led her to. Then she eagerly took the ring and looked at at. "So my Dear's appearance would stay as it is now, but he would feel like being twenty again?" That would be amazing! Morwena loved that her Dear was so much older than her, but she also knew how much his age bothered him. "My Dear has so many back pains because of his age. I am sure this would make him happy~" She even had the perfect excuse to give it to him if it would get rid of all of Bentner's health problems. "This sounds so wonderful, deary!...Oh, I can pick two items! Do you have anything that works like an aphrodesiac as well? Maybe only towards me? The last thing I want him to do is getting another mistress again if he feels younger once more!"

Yoshi shook her head. “No, he would change appearance as well, I’m afraid. He’d not only feel twenty, but look twenty as well. But on the bright side, no more back pains!” At the mention of the aphrodisiac, she frowned. “I have something but it’s…very powerful.” Her smile didn’t waver even as she beckoned the women to follow her into the darkness of the room, deeper into the stores. When she stopped, it was beside a pedestal encased in glass. Within it sat a small vial of purple liquid. “Humans call them love potions, but there’s no love involved,” she said quietly. “If anything, they are ‘lust potions.’ They do not make the user fall in love, but make them desire the woman or man who gives this to them. It’s very powerful, but it’s effects only last for a day or two, sometimes three.” She blinked up at Morwena. “Does that sound like something you’d want?”

Meanwhile, Halibel was standing quietly, her eyes closed as her sensitive ears picked up the sound of Morwena and Yoshi’s conversation. “Tell me, Bentner,” she said at last. “Do these items please you? I take it the book is something you are interested in.”

Morwena stared. "H-he would look younger than me, then? A-ah, that's not good! I cannot be his...superior in age! And all these dumb females would flock him again! Oh my...but I suppose he might want it still..." She sighed. Her most perfect item was suddenly very much less perfect. "Wouldn't that be bad for his body? Switching back and forth between ages? Would he live longer?"

She followed Yoshi to the vial. "My..." That did sound like something she wanted indeed - the idea of her Dear all over her was amazing. "He will notice afterwards, though, right? If something works so strongly and not in a subtle way, he would notice that I gave him something like that. Who knows what he would do then? My Dear doesn't trust others easily, he only trusts me because he knows I'm loyal to him by fate because he's my Chosen One. If I do something like this to him, he might actually reject me or even have me killed." Morwena sighed. "My, how upsetting. So many amazing items! And so many drawbacks to all of them!"

Bentner meanwhile looked up at Tia. "Indeed. This book would help my research immensely once I would understand how it exactly works. Not only because of the ability it has, but also because something like this doesn't exist in my world so far. Understanding it could lead to new spells and maybe similiar items, with that faster research and earlier results, saving a lot of time. These hairclips, too - I am not sure if anyone short of our white god could replace limbs of humans through magic. You have an amazing collection here. It is hard to believe that these things don't help you to solve the problems of your world, whatever those might be."

“No. I don’t think so. Besides, he can use it in the bedroom and then take it off after, if that’s what you’re worried about.” She giggled. “I sometimes forget humans make such a big deal out of age. He might live longer, but it won‘t shorten his life. The last human to wear that reached an extraordinary age of 230.” Yoshi reached out and pressed a hand against the glass; it dissolved almost immediately. “He wouldn’t be aware that he had been slipped anything, no. But he would be aware of the effects. I’m told it’s untraceable.” She waved her hand, and the vial appeared in it. Her grin turned almost wicked as she glanced up at the older woman. “If I promised to give this to you and make it so that he was unaware that he’d ever ingested anything and even unaware of it’s affects, would you take it?”

Tia nodded. “Indeed, those hairclips are something special. There was a human here, once, long ago, who could utilize powers similarly. She was not a God, but she was on par with them. If anyone was a mortal deity, it was her.” She closed her eyes, dipping her head down slightly. “We have many problems that cannot be solved with healing. It has been a long time coming, but I am slowly changing this world from one of death and destruction, into one of peace and diplomacy. It was not easy, and it continues to be a difficult task, but I am confident in my abilities. And the abilities of my subordinates.” Her gaze lifted and she glanced at Yoshi. “However deceitful they may be.”

I love adventurous tales like that. That uplifting feeling that comes from seeing unknown lands and the knowledge that you came across—nothing can replace it! It opens a path from which self-confidence, experience, and important friendships—from the sharing of life or death situations—are born! But hearing it just isn’t the same. I want to create my own magnificent story!

A great adventure!
