With temperatures rising over 143°C (289.40°F) in most areas, the only relief is during the nights when it is much cooler. All travelers are advised to keep to the local towns on the desert's outskirts and avoid traveling too far from civilization. (+3 Endurance, +2 Defense)

Tracyn dipped her head submissively, but muttered something dark under her breath as she turned away from the council and went to her bound, blindfolded and gagged prisoner. Drali gave a snort and shifted on her feet; feeling the unease and anger of her rider as the woman approached and grabbed the man by his wrist bindings.

"Your fate's decided, walk," she growled to him as she yanked him onto his head and led him to Drali. The Rathril lowered her head and grabbed at the bindings Tracyn held, picking the man up and laying him across her back as if he were a saddle bag. Silas hissed and groaned as his shoulder's threatened to dislocate under his own weight, grumbling when he came to rest on top of scales once more.

"A firing squad would be kinder than this." He could only imagine the look on the woman's face, she must be loving every minute of this. "You savages were never worth my time..."

"You have no idea what's in store...you should have requested to be fed to Drali," she replied dryly before the trio set off towards the heart of the desert, leaving the council to murmur amongst themselves.
"I have been hidden, scorned, adored, worshiped, forsaken, coveted and banished more times than I care to count. But the one thing all those experiences cannot steal from me is the gentle soul I was born with, the kind heart I have molded, and the bright ideals for the future that have lit my way through the darkness of the past."

When they were finally out of sight of the little tent village, Tracyn pulled her goggles from her face and looked to the man who lay all but nude across Drali's back. She touched the bridge of her nose lightly, wondering why it was that she was feeling badly about all this. The guy had tried to loot her home, he's shot her and wounded Drali and yet she felt bad about leaving him defenseless in the desert. She closed her eyes--just how long had she been living here? How long had she lived with this tribe and helped keep them afloat as a bounty hunter? She sure as hell knew that her bosses didn't just want to have a tea party with the people she had hunted down for them.

Drali looked over her shoulder, snorting at Tracyn while she nodded and tossed her head like an agitated equine. Tracyn smiled and reached down to pat her side, reassuring her old friend that she hadn't forgotten. The tribe...the tribe of shifters she had once employed some soldiers to help rescue after realizing her mistake. Drali chuffed, pleased to see her rider remembered that she wasn't heartless, and continued loping along the sands.

"Just where is this joyride going?"Silas finally growled out. Tracyn reached forward and tapped the skin that was already brilliant red on his back to elicit a howl from the man.

"Quiet, we'll be there soon enough."

Drali picked up her pace, lowering upper-most two arms so that her lope included all six limbs to carry her across the sands. As she did this, lowering her neck in the process, Silas began to slide off and let out a sharp yell as he did. Tracyn shot a hand down to grab under his arms, hoisting him back up into place and closer to the saddle where he could hook his elbow over it.

"We'll be there soon enough, I suggest you take a nap. You're going to need your sleep with that eye and your head wound," she said, letting the man shift to expose his chest to the sun instead of his back.

"What's your endgame here lady? What's the point?" He snarled, turning to where he could hear her voice coming from. "You've got me, just go ahead and get it over with."

Tracyn felt herself bristle, but did nothing in retaliation towards the helpless man. "You're sentenced to die out in the desert. If you're lucky I'll untie you when we get there so you can at least try to defend yourself before the wild animals try to pull you apart at nightfall."

The rest of the journey was quiet, and soon the afternoon sun began to fall into it's evening position and Silas breathed a sigh of relief despite the fact that his skin already harbored large blisters filled with oozing stuff and pain. He had the blindfold yanked suddenly from his face, and as swiftly as Tracyn worked her knife to slice the bindings at his wrist Drali also sliced the bindings at his ankles and they both shoved him unceremoniously onto the still-hot sands. The man let out a howl of pain as some of the sun blisters could take no more abuse and promptly burst at the rough contact.

"You bitch, what am I supposed to do now?" Staggering to his feet, sand and slime clung to his mostly bare skin, his body only covered enough to be considered decent. He didn't dare rub at his wrists though they ached, but he did touch a hand to the massive knot on the side of his head from her staff blow earlier in the day.

Tracyn leaned forward on her saddle, looking unimpressed and unyielding to any plea. "You are going to try and survive. Three days...four nights beginning now. If you're still alive by that time...we'll talk more. If something hasn't already ripped your throat out by then." Even through her callous answer she regarded him coldly. Still...

"This is all you get. One half-full canteen. Make it last, looter." Drali snorted, turning to allow her rider to chuck the canteen into the sand in front of the man's feet. She snorted and raised back up to free her arms for defense should the man get violent.

Silas kept his eyes on the rider and giant lizard, but reached down and snatched the canteen out of the sand. He glanced at it, considering tossing it back at the woman staring down at him. "I suppose this is full of poison, isn't it?" He snarled. Tracyn shrugged and rolled her shoulders as if the ride had simply made them a little sore.

"What fun would that be if I told you. You'll just have to get thirsty enough to find out. Well, have fun out in the giant sandbox...maybe we'll see each other again." Taking the cue, Drali turned and began walking, Silas following them. Tracyn watched him, both amused and heartbroken, as she snickered outwardly. "Oh, that's cute. You think you can follow our tracks back? Let's show him, Drali."

The Rathril lowered back down to utilize all her limbs once more and took off in a sprint. Silas began to follow after only to look down and notice that, for such a large beast, there were no tracks. He looked back up to find the reason--the large tuft of hair at the ends of Drali's tails. Each beat against the sands and effectively erased any trace that the huge beast had even been there. And for all he knew, they were headed in the wrong direction for now and would turn and go around him later. He was officially abandoned.

Alone. He was alone in the desert with no shade, no shelter, and no weapon. The possibly-poisoned water was his only ally in all this and for that the man cursed and kicked furiously at the sand all around him. This was absolute torture, that woman and her clan were insane! He should have aimed better when he shot her the first time...stupid hippies and their empty tents. Those damned Skags could all rot on the sands too.

That very thought drew him to stand a little more straight and look around. Skags. He'd never taken that into full account...but that woman had dropped him right in prime territory for the nasty things to be lurking at dusk. Looking all around him there was nothing but gently rolling sand hills. "Guess I'd better get digging..."

Sand, sadly, was not a very cooperative building material. Nor was it exactly the best when digging. The sun continued to bake Silas' skin, threatening to cook him from the outside in if relief wasn't obtained soon. More blisters rose to the surface and would burst at any strained movement the man made, making him hiss and curse. But finally, he had dug himself far enough into the sands to protect most of his skin, save for his head. But if he got buried further than that...he would truly never be able to dig his way back out. The coolness of the deeper sands was welcome to his weeping body despite the abrasive nature of the sand itself.

Night was beginning to fall, and soon the coolness that he was coveting would serve as his saving grace by becoming a heat source. He could only hope this part of the desert was going to be void of more of the desert lizards tonight.
