With temperatures rising over 143°C (289.40°F) in most areas, the only relief is during the nights when it is much cooler. All travelers are advised to keep to the local towns on the desert's outskirts and avoid traveling too far from civilization. (+3 Endurance, +2 Defense)

As Many Sands as There are Tragedies and Questions (OPEN)

Postby Moofius » 06/10/2013 11:15 PM

(( Please read through this part and if you're interested in joining read the requirements! Thanks! -MM ))

The darkness was stifling, silence hanging heavier in the air than the dust and sand that permeated the space. The silence was in full swing when a circle of runes flashed into existence, revealing walls of what appeared to be sand and, on the surface itself a large, heavy metal door. As the bright flash of light faded there came a creaking sound as gears and mechanisms moved into place, fighting age and sand as they moved.

When that sound faded the door swung open on silent hinges, the small space bathed in a soft, blue light that seemed to fill the room on the other side, interrupted only by the person standing in the door way.

Nothing was said, he was all alone after all and the satisfaction of progress made didn't need words even then. Soon, he could feel it; soon they would have what they wanted.

---

Let Me Tell You A Thing...

Okay so this RP is going to have a bit of plot and structure to it, so I need people willing to follow me a bit here. There are THREE requirements for joining this RP:

1. POST OFTEN: There will be no posting order because this is partially for the scavenger hunt. I mean I want to do this anyway but we need to post pretty often because there IS a plot, okay? But don't leave people behind. I'm going to harass anyone who joins if they haven't posted in awhile and look like their being left behind, but I'm also not going to wait forever.

2. YOUR CHARACTER HAS TO BE A SERAPHIM UNDER ONE OF THE GODS OF EVELON*: (*We can discuss your character being something else, but I actually seriously just want Seraphim.)
I WILL HELP YOU MAKE A CHARACTER! It's okay if you know nothing of Evelon lore, I know enough to get me through the day, so I will help you construct a character you want. This story is very Evelon Specific but I will give everyone playing information and instructions (both publicly and privately) as we go along and as it's needed/comes up.

3.NO FALLEN ANGELS. These angels have been sent, from their respective God on a mission! They would not send fallen angels (and if you don't know what makes an angel fall in Evelon it's basically not following orders and having like... significant emotions. Doing things because you love or hate or whatever. Angels still have emotions, but they're very obedient usually).

That said! Your angel is totally allowed to fall while on mission. They just can't start as a fallen angel because that doesn't make sense.

And that's pretty much it. Please PM me before you jump just jump in, even if you have an angel character in mind. Cause yeah, we can decide what sort of information, if any, our angel might have to offer and we can actually make a thing of this.

Good talk!

---

Image

How was it that things happened around her so often? Last time she was informed of a mission, well that had not gone well. As soon as she had been given the message she traveled to see Yepha in person and confirm it.

It was true, there were strange happenings all around and Safi would be hard pressed to deny it. People were dying mysteriously but not horribly and from what the angels under Xai're were saying there was no sign of the soul, tormented or otherwise.

It wasn't enough to raise alarm, but there was a certain curiosity on the phenomenon and a wariness, too. Whatever was going on it couldn't be right, nor could it be good. Safi was asked to help in the investigation because of her knowledge of the area and her... skill at keeping people together and motivated. Safi felt this was a bit of a farce, but to say so would go against Yepha and she could not do that (nor did she even think to I mean that was Fallen talk).

Her home was in one of the the few settlements that were actually located in the sands of the desert (though still relatively close to the edge). She actually had her own home now, a place made of Clay bricks and mud, then smoothed over with more mud, but it was cool and dry and far enough away that she did not have to worry about being bothered.

Or questioned when she would have her own garrison of angels under her charge.
"Well," She said, doing her best to sound as though she was in control and not scared at all, "they won't stay long. We'll head out as soon as the sun is down." Or so she hoped. They were coming in from all over it seemed and she already had tea and biscuits ready. They would arrive today, discuss what they all know and then (hopefully) begin this mission during the night when travel was more possible.

((Not pet form yet so yeah....pretend this is a pretty picture of a mechanical seraph. Wee~))

The seraph had admittedly been a bit hesitant when ordered to go out into the field himself to search for lost souls. His job had thus far been only that of cataloging incoming souls of the deceased and making notes of the condition of the soul. So when he was told he would be leaving the Vault to head for the Wilt'no Desert he felt a bit surprised to say the least. But like the good obedient angel he was he quickly gathered his papers and headed straight to the desert. Thaxson admitted he was nervous but reigned in his emotions. he had to remain as emotionless as possible for fear of falling. After all no sane angel would want to become essentially human. To become that was a punishment worse than death in his mind.

Blinking against the harsh light of the sun he quickly ducked into the building he was told to meet his superior at . He smiled and nodded at the seraph and began to set his papers down. "I pray I am not late, ma'am. I haven't been out of the vault in a very long time and as thus I was unused to such a climate. My name is Thaxson and I serve under Xai're. Please let me know if I can be of any help at all."

She was so unuse to her own kind. Always interracting with people in the village she lived in, it was so remote and simple. The formality of Thaxson's speech was a bit of a shock. Safi smiled, remembered the blue scarf that hid all but her eyes, and pushed the pale blue fabric from her face, "Sorry. Hello, welcome to my home. Make yourself comfortable, stretch your wings. You're the first to arrive so there may be quite a wait." Safi flipped open her new notebook and placed a check mark next to Thaxson's name.
"Good, great, perfect. Ah so, Xai're and you... directed souls? Have you been briefed at all about what is going on?" She wouldn't say it aloud but Xai're wasn't the most reliable God when it came to passing on information (but then how could he be, that was what Yepha ruled over).

As she spoke Safi moved around her home, pulling back a beat up wooden chair for Thaxson to take if he so desired before bring out a green ceramic kettle and a plain white mug. She didn't live a rich life, but it was comfortable and simple and not at all eye catching. If there was one thing Safi would rather not be it was something that stood out.

"It's certainly not the gentlest climate, the Vaults are mild," Safi laughed, "The last time I was up there I felt chilled, if that's any indication of the time I spend up there." The desert was hot but the hut was quite cool, partially because of how it was made and a little because Safi had placed a few runes to create cool air to move about the house. She still had Dr. H's notebook plus she'd done more research on runes in her spare time; she wasn't even close to proficient in rune writing but she was better than last time.

"I, uh, never directed souls ma'am. I'm very low on the totem pole so to say. I only catalog souls and make note of their condition and location for the records. I'm in training basically." He smiled a bit nervously and stretched his wings wide, happy to be able to finally be in his natural state. He sighed contently before bringing his wings back to his body and sitting down in the chair.

"Ma'am I haven't been told much. I was told souls have gone missing and it is my duty to help locate them. Other than that I am completely in the dark." He watched her with the kettle and mug curiously. Was she going to make tea during such hot weather? He supposed it was cool enough in the house for it, but it still struck him as odd. Then again the way of life down on Evelon stuck him as odd most days.

"What are you making, if you don't mind me asking ma'am?"

Eivina - 121b2e

(Pretend that her outfit is more... pastel versions of the Lunar Matches' colors. =3 Also, she has a light cloak for protecting her skin from the sand and sun.)

This was all so new to her.

Eivina had only recently become a Seraph, and she was still learning what, exactly, it meant to serve Yepha.  Right now, it seemed that what mattered most was that she was hungry for knowledge--and that hunger for knowledge would eventually lead her to something that she could devote her life to learning more about.

So, when she was given an assignment from Yepha to meet with other Seraphs gathering in the desert, she had accepted the mission with an open mind.  Even if the desert didn't seem like her kind of place, if nothing else, she could learn more about the people, the area, the culture--everything that she could learn about.

Looking around, she soon found the hut that she had been told would be the meeting place, and quickly, she ducked inside.  The difference between the temperatures outside and inside was considerable, but not enough to convince her to shed her cloak just yet.

"E-excuse me... I was sent here by Yepha to assist with some sort of a mission?  I hope I'm not too terribly late," she said, removing her hood to reveal dark- and light-blue streaked hair.  "I'm Eivina.  I... I hope I can be a great asset to this mission," she said, offering a small smile.
Maybe I'm foolish, maybe I'm blind
Thinking I can see through this to see what's behind
Got no way to prove it, so maybe I'm lying
Take a look in the mirror, what do you see
Can you see it clearer, or are you deceived in what you believe?
Don't ask my opinion, don't ask me to lie
Then beg for forgiveness for making you cry
'cause I'm no prophet or Messiah
You should go looking somewhere higher

I'm only human, I make mistakes
I'm only human, I do what I can
I'm only human, that's all it takes to put the blame on me

Don't put the blame on me

"Oh," Safi said with a slight frown, "well no matter. You have knowledge of them and can check on their health which is more than I could do." She had no real experience with souls, maybe detecting the nature of a persons soul (to some degree) but nothing even resembling the important job that Xai're and his angels performed.

Safi poured the hot liquid into the first mug and slid it towards him, "It's my own blend of tea. This batch is quite nice, if that doesn't sound too much like bragging." Safi smiled at Thaxson, "You don't have to have any if it's not to your taste, I find tea relaxes me, helps to clear the mind and fit the pieces together a bit easier. Once we're out in the desert I can't see tea being something we bother with so... Our last chance for it." She laughed again and poured another cup just as another entered her home.

Safi couldn't help but beam. Another under Yepha.
"Welcome, Eivina. I am Safi and this is Thaxson. Would you like some tea? We're just waiting for the others to arrive." Another mark next to the name and her own little note, from what she had gathered, "I hope I can help you find your passion, Eivina. You'll have to tell me what sort of things you would like to experience.

(( I guess it's worth mentionning that Yepha has a pretty extensive library, so reading up on this that or the other is pretty common. Safi originally started by reading up on the enemy to try and find weaknesses, to help the cause, and it sort of went from there. And if there's anything you think she might have read a little about let me know Fire and I can tell you some basic things. Also anything released in the document can be considered pretty basic or common knowledge (the ones that were posted yesterday I think). ))

((She's gonna get a normal Seraph face in a minute. Promise.))

This had to be some kind of mistake! Not that Zu'hai made mistakes, but she was certain she was not supposed to be here. Maybe the message had been meant for someone else and the names had just gotten switched or something. Never been out of the Vaults, never interacted with humans, never been in a fight outside of training (and she wasn't even very good at those), Esatael barely knew how to hold a sword, let alone do whatever it was they needed her for out here. That was another thing, the lack of details. Maybe whoever was actually supposed to go on this already knew what was going on and would have been able to start right away. Whatever this team that was gathering was sure to be brought down by her, she knew it.

Deliberating, she stood outside the door to Safi's home, torn between stepping forward and turning back to go home. The desert winds pulled at the hems of the blue and silver cloak she wrapped around her face and shoulders. She really wished to go home, but, if those orders really were meant for her, that could be a dangerous idea. Plus this could be a learning opportunity regardless of whether she was the right Seraph for the mission or not.

She took a deep breath and stepped forward, poking her head into the hut. "Hello?" she said in a soft voice, slightly wide-eyed when she found three other Seraphs already there. "I'm Esatael, and I think I'm supposed to be here. I'm not entirely... sure though."

Ester was never asked to leave the vault. In all her time as a seraph she doubted she had ever actually been on Evelon. So when she had been asked to assist some others she was thrilled, and also very anxious. She knew that she wouldn’t fit in with other humans at all so if they went anywhere in public she wouldn’t really be able to interact with them as another human would. Ester would certainly try to do her very best if it came down to it. In all honesty she wasn’t very god at interacting with other seraphs either. Most of the time she was only there to heal them and they left without a word. If Zu'hai was asking her to do something she was not about to go against him. She knew her place and though it wasn’t a very high one she was content with it. Ester had a bad habit of snapping her fingers before zapping to the places she wanted to go around the vault. It would be different when she went to Evelon, a soft smile appeared on her face as she found were she wanted to go and snapping her fingers she appeared outside a mud hut.

“The desert of course,” This would be just the place she would be sent on her first outing. But she didn’t mind the warm sun was rather soothing. After a pause she realized that humans might be around to see her. Glancing around she was relieved to see that the house was stationed on the outskirts of the town and it looked like the people would not be able to see her and her soft blue wings that just appeared from nowhere. Hastily she stepped inside the hut and found she wasn’t the first to arrive. “hello.” She said meekly looking around the room. “I’m Ester I serve under Zu'hai.” Ester introduced herself but she didn’t recognize any of the seraphs to be under her god though she was rubbish at remembering anything.

Well she was going to have to get out all of her mugs (she didn't bother with tea cups anymore, they didn't hold near enough). Back in her tiny kitchen she opened one cupboard and gathered up a mess of mugs of all different shapes, sizes, colours and in different states of aging. There were chips in a few of them and some had very permanent stains from the teas they had held.

She placed them on her small table next to her kettle, just in time for the latest arrival.
"Well if you were told about this mission then it is very likely," Safi chimed, trying to keep the mood light, "it's hardly high profile." She said, again opening her notebook and going down the list. For a moment Safi wondered if this, Esatael really was on her list. Safi had put it in alphabetic order and, oh no she was the late entry. Bottom of the list and scribbled in hastily. A little note next to her name showed that she was inexperienced under Zu'hai and in training to be a soldier.

Safi smiled, "You are meant to be here, Esatael. This is your first mission? Seems we'll have a lot of first timers, which is good," Safi said, looking at the group already assembled, "that is usually a good indication that the mission doesn't expect to need expertise. A good starter mission."
That was a relief for Safi who was happy if she never had another adventure ever again.

Soon after Esatael entered Ester. Her introduction was quite abrupt but she too seemed to be a fresh face from the vaults. Safi smiled and dipped her head, "Welcome to my home, Ester. I am Safi and these are the other members of the mission so far." she said, going around and introducing everyone by and the God they worked under.

(( I'm going to make a list of characters in the story at the bottom of my first post. Name, gender, God, and a quick one to two words for what their job is in the vaults (or outside if that happens). ))

So there was another seraph under her god, how embarrassing. Ester gave a small bow and found a seat a little bit farther away from everyone else. She had never been one to socialize and in the vault she was ignored. “Your home is lovely Safi.” Ester praised noticing the runes placed around the room. And while the hut was made of mud it was quaint and neat. Compared to the vault Evelon had some noticeable differences. Ester hadn’t expected to be going to the desert she figured she would be sent to a city or something to assist healing humans.

Though she couldn’t yet say how she felt about Evelon considering she hadn’t seen more than a few yards of it. Ester was pleased that she hadn’t been chosen to work in the human hospitals. She much preferred the vault even if she was a faceless healer. Everyone seemed nice enough but they all looked like a sort of rag-tag team and Ester wondered exactly what they would be doing once everyone had assembled.

"It is a pleasure to meet you, Eivina." He smiled politely and got up offering his seat to her, and leaving the the tea in case she wanted it. Just as he was looking for somewhere else to settle down another seraph appeared, this one more simply dressed. "It seems we are not having to wait too long after all ma'am."

He smiled slightly at the new member of the crew and waved a bit. "Hello, ma'am. My name is Thaxson. I'm glad you could make it."  Then yet another angel appeared, and again female. Did female seraph outnumber males or was he just so lucky as to be stuck with mostly women? Not that it mattered much, besides that the quickly filling large number of people was starting to make him anxious. He was used to be mostly alone and only dealing with one or two people at the most and now suddenly there were four other people.

So she was in the right place. At least she had gotten that much right. Esatael gave a shy smile and edged over to lean on a wall, waving slightly to those already in the room. Everyone seemed so nice, especially Safi, so maybe this wouldn't be too bad after all. Part of her refused to get comfortable, though, which left her slightly awkward while propped against the wall near the door.

Another Seraph followed her in and said that she, too, served under Zu'hai. She assumed the other was in a different class than she, since she was an unfamiliar face. The one who introduced himself as Thaxon bore the appearance of one sent by Xai're. The others she could not accurately place based solely on what she could tell by looking.

"So... uh..." She felt strange asking this, seeing as how most everyone probably knew what was going on already, but she didn't want to go into this without knowing what was going on. "What exactly is this mission? The explanation I got wasn't exactly... clear." The explanation had been "none" anyway.

"The pleasure is mine, Thaxson," Eivina said, smiling as she took the seat that he offered.  She also took some of the tea that was offered, glad for the refreshment.  When two more female seraphim entered, she offered a slight nod of her head to them at first.

"Greetings.  I am Eivina," she said.  So, they served under Zu'hai--it seemed as though quite the group of them had gathered, with at least one seraph that served under each of the different gods.  In regards to Safi's question, Eivina smiled gently.

"Well... I've done some basic research on humans and Dwellers.  I know a little about the Chaos as well, but... not a whole lot.  I'm... more interested in folklore and culture of different areas on Evelon.  I was able to do some research into this region before I came here," she said, "...but some of the other seraphim said that I would be in good company.  I haven't been out of the Vaults much before this, so..." she said, biting her lip a little nervously.

Already, she was eager with anticipation to begin the mission.  What sort of things would they encounter and discover?  Regardless, she was going to be taking in every last detail as well as she could.

Ester was content with watching everyone interact. She wasn’t exactly needed and hopefully she wouldn’t be. She was also curious as to what the mission was, she too hadn’t been told anything about it. At the time she hadn’t asked any questions just assuming she was too low in the hierarchy to know about it, and since she wasn’t a fighter she wouldn’t be on the front lines so she wouldn’t need to know what they were going up against.

Ester was interested to know more about humans all she knew was that apparently they had very efficient medical techniques considering they didn’t use magic to cure their sick. Unfortunately ester couldn’t build the courage to speak up and instead just sat down on the cool floor with her back resting up against the wall. She would have gone for a spot closer to the door but the seraphim Esatael had beaten her to it.

"Sorry there isn't much space. Anyone else interested in tea while we wait for the others?" Safi asked, pleased to see that her home was starting to fill up with a small, but impressive group of seraphim. They all seemed a bit unsure and shy, a problem Safi had not encountered when she had last lead a group, but at least they had all come together quite willingly. That did make things much simpler.

Since the tea was there and it had been offered Safi took the opportunity to pour herself some tea before trying to go about and lead, or try. They all seemed anxious, unsure, and confused. Considering how little they knew and what experiences (or lack there of) that they had, this was understandable.

Safi made a point to push back the rest of her scarf so the darker complexion showed so her face could be seen so as not too appear to sinister or secretive. Her face was all soft and gentle curves besides her nose, which was almost beak like, and her eyes which were a pale, icey blue.
"So, from what I gather, this is the first time any of you have been outside the vaults?" She asked, her voice easily carrying in the space, "I suspect it will be a very gentle introduction overall," she reassured, "There are many interesting things in the desert, but they are spread out and hard to find so I hope none of you will be overwelmed by it." She sipped her tea and closed her eyes, "I understand how you must all feel. I felt similarly when I first left the vaults."

There was a beat of silence before the innevitable was asked, Safi nodded, "Of course. Well there's little known as it is, but from what we've gathered there have been quite a few mysterious, human deaths. They seem to have died in many different ways, murder, natural causes... Dehydration, really the list goes on." Safi looked to Thaxson, "but when Xai'res angels went to collect the souls of the dead there was no trace of them. They weren't lost, bound, tortured... they simply were not, as though the humans had never had souls. Yet Xai're knew that they were to be retrieved." Yepha sighed, the matter somewhat distressing, especially since it was happening in her back yard, "that is all anyone knows."

Another sip of her tea before she continued, "We are tasked with discovering what could cause this." Safi looked around the room, "We are not here to be heroic and stop what is occuring, simply to discover the cause and locate it if we can do so safely. We're not all here yet," Safi said, thinking back to her list of people, "we can discuss how to approach the mission once everyone has arrived. For now I think it would be best if we could all get to know one another. Our greatest weakness will be not knowing the support we have around us."

Safi looked around the room and saw just how spread out everyone was. The most any of them had offered for interaction were introductions. Safi hoped this didn't mean they would have a difficult time working together.
