With temperatures rising over 143°C (289.40°F) in most areas, the only relief is during the nights when it is much cooler. All travelers are advised to keep to the local towns on the desert's outskirts and avoid traveling too far from civilization. (+3 Endurance, +2 Defense)

Storm of Change [Quest | P]

It had been so long since she returned to the desert, after Diablo's defeat she thought she could get some peace back home to train other willing monks. However, it was not the case. A new threat arose. Reapers, with the fallen Angel of Wisdom leading them. Malthael. She had briefly seen visages of him now and then, but not personally. Not that she wanted to.

Ishara stood out the outskirts of Caldeum, gaining reprieve away from Westmarch. She was more than capable of handling herself against the hoards of reapers, but she was only human... ish. Nephalem technically. Even she needed a break.

Leaving Urzael in charge was a good idea. The reapers gave him scant whispers that the Nephalem had fled towards the oasis by Caldeum. Granted, it was a risk to approach her in person, it would also show the monk what she was really up against. He was death itself, unable to be hurt by someone on plane of the living. There was nothing to fear, and there never was.

Malthael kept his distance for now, content with just observing her for now. He would bide his time until he saw a good opening to approach her personally. For now... he would send some of his minions her way, as a test.

Ishara made a spot by a small oasis, enjoying the slight warmth in the otherwise hot desert. It was humid where she was, but compared to where she was earlier, it was most welcome. She bent her arms behind her head to unhook her head ornament, letting it fall unceremoniously behind her. Next she removed her gauntlets and boots before slipping into the oasis up to her knees. Anything that came near her to pick a fight would be of little consequence, an exploding palm or fist of thunder would make quick work of them. For the monk, the scenario was one of inner peace. No monsters or demons... so it would be a perfect time to meditate.

Malthael watched as the monk removed some of her armor, becoming slightly intrigued of her confidence to shed any protective gear she had. Perhaps she was not afraid of being attacked in such a state, and knew she could take on anything without it. This was more than likely due to her training as a monk, using little protection, and relying on skill alone.

Part of him wanted to see her in person now, but decided to bide his time until a perfect opportunity arose.

Ishara lifted her head, sensing a dark presence looming by. It was a familiar feeling, not quite like the demons, or reapers for that matter but more like... an angel? That would be impossible... angels were creatures of light, not shadow. No matter what, she couldn't shake the feeling of it being a familiar presence laced with utter darkness. "Who's there! Show yourself demon!" she called out, quickly getting to her feet so that she was now standing in the oasis.

How perceptive of her to sense him before he even made his presence known to her in full. No matter, he would greet her personally now. There was nothing for him to fear, nothing the Nephalem could do to him. Malthael vanished from his position and reappeared in front of the monk, watching her nearly stumble back into the water in shock. "Nephalem..."

"An angel... no... Malthael," she hissed, taking a step away from him. The last thing she wanted was to be touched by him, and more importantly, those deathly cold wings.

He attempted to close the space between them, only to have Ishara continue to back away from him. How amusing, she was avoiding getting anywhere near him. It must have been out of fear-- she was educated in his power, maybe even knew the extent of his abilities. "You seem afraid, Nephalem, perhaps you already know the answer why."

Ishara felt her back brush up against a palm tree behind her, feeling her body freeze up as Malthael drew near. "Of course, Tyrael was more than helpful in educating me about you."

"Tyrael... my brother," Malthael repeated, studying the now trapped monk even more. She remained defiant, strong, and her body showed no fear, yet he knew some part of her was afraid. Her body language, the way she moved away from him, that was enough of a tell for him.

"Yes. You are a traitor, no longer the Archangel of Wisdom. So why, why would you abandon your post to become the fiend you are now."

"Telling you now will not yield any useful information for your quest, this is something you must figure out on your own, Nephalem," he said coldly, making an attempt to reach out to the monk, gauging her reaction.

Ishara tried to twist away from him, but was quickly seized by the angel, immediately sending a chill up her spine. "Unhand me..." she breathed, making an attempt to keep her nerves still, not wishing to show any fear towards him.

The Nephalem would prove to be a problem. She was brave, strong, and had a great sense of resolve. And yet, he had her in a cold embrace, her warmth feeling unnatural to him. He could easily kill her now and devour her soul, but something stopped him. His curiosity in her? This... monk was an enigma, and killing her would be a waste. She defeated Diablo, could she do the same to him?

Ishara pushed him away with an exploding palm while he was distracted, and even though it didn't hurt the angel, it got him away from her. "Leave. Our battle is not here."

"Very well. The next time we meet in person will be the deciding factor. Until then... Nephalem"

He turned away, melting into thin air in front of her eyes. Ishara braced herself against the tree, feeling weak in the knees. She had escaped death, for now.
