Return to Wilt'no Desert

Postby Missy » 06/08/2008 8:17 PM

When she woke up, she was shocked to have fallen asleep. The sun was just beginning to inch over the horizon. While she admired this, a second, more urgent thought came into her head. She was in a desert. And the sun could kill you out there.

Chi woke up as well, but with a very cheery chirp. The sun was rising, he was safe and he thought he could see food. The little spider looked edible. Which was pretty far from him, all the way on the ground. Leaping from his branch, he dived for it.

The unnamed one was still sleeping. Or at least it seemed to be. It had no concerns about the light. And all it needed to do was escape, so it dreamed. About what though, was unknown.

Where would be the best shelter from the sunlight? The shade of the scattered trees was an obvious choice. But the leaves didn't look like they would provide much shade. Chi hadn't seemed to mind, but the other might. She needed to choose as soon as possible.

Chi caught the small insect in his meager talons. He then flew back up to the branch, the legs of his prey waving. He would have preferred a worm, but that would work. He ate it in several bites. Happy once more, he sang.

The song woke it up, lights in its' eyes flaring. Was he out yet? No, it didn't seem like it. But he remained motionless. The larger creature was right next to it.

Ah, there was that lovely song again. It was too bad she had no time to enjoy it. As she scanned the area quickly, she saw the rocks. Yes, something might live in that pile. Yes, it might manage to kill her. But it was her only option.

Chi was confused as he finished his meal. Why was the girl moving into those caves? Was something bad coming? Then he could be in danger too! He took off, flying towards her.

The thing really had no reason to wonder about what was happening. It was odd that the girl was cramming into a pile of rocks. And of course, that he was being dragged along as well. Not to mention the bird who had joined them. It was uncomfortable though, all crammed so closely.

The heat wasn't the only thing that could kill in a desert. There were sandstorms capable of scouring flesh from bone. The few creatures who lived there had evolved to be ruthless. Water was a precious commodity, and blood could be subsituted. The girl was more concerned about the little creatures she had brought out though.

Chi, luckily for the girl, could control his flames. That was why he didn't burn her alive when he landed on her shoulder. Not that he had planned to. He just wanted to be as high as he could. And if the little shelter was the safest, he would be there.

Reaching out of its' cage, the thing managed to snag a pant leg. It brushed the clothing at least. However, it was unable to reach the flesh. Only then could it do damage and escape. But it seemed to have exhausted all ideas.

In fact, a sandstorm was coming now. She could hear the wind whipping about in the distance. Almost like a roar, really. But from something that was not alive. How much protection could the rocks give?

Chi heard to sound and cowered. That sound was something bad. Even worse than the monsters before. And no, he wasn't going to sing and make anyone feel better. Maybe if it didn't hear him, it would go away.

Perhaps the least worried of all was the thing. It did not see the storm as a bad thing. Instead, it would help it escape. Something that powerful could break the cage. That it would be killed did not cross its' mind.

(Must. Make. Ten. More. Posts. X.x)

A new, and more troubling thought entered her mind. Even if they did survive, what would happen to the water? She hadn't brought any of her own. If the pond disappeared, she was doomed. And so were her lovely pets.

Chi squawked loudly as the wind reached him. It was trying to pull him out of the safety. He really did not trust the flying sand. So, he wasn't going to allow that. Ignoring that on what her perched was alive, he dug his claws in deeper.

It was ecstatic. Already it felt the cage begin to move. But the foolish girl was refusing to let go. It wouldn't do anything about that. She would be killed by the storm hopefully.

She really needed to eat more. She made this little mental note as the howling wind managed to drag her out. Well, since she had failed to stay in relative safety, she made a new plan. She threw herself to the ground and attempted to worm under some sand. It was better than her bones being scoured of flesh.

Chi let go as the girl was dragged out. He wasn't going to risk himself to save anyone. As he was also forced out, he tried flying away. He was only successful as not allowing the storm to suck him up completely. This wasn't good.

The cage was quite heavy, for the wind had yet to drag it away. The creature inside was thrown about though. Both were for the same reason, that the cage had bars. The wind could pass right through it. But the thing wasn't being so lucky. And all happiness and hope quickly evaporated.

The girl was dragged for a few feet. Then the sand began to cover her. At the moment, she had the most safety out of the trio. Not that she would have thought of it that way. She still believed the other tow were by the rocks.

The storm was moving towards Chi. With the suction getting stronger, the body quickly tired. And when he gave out, his body caught completely on fire, a minature sun rushing to the center. He had been over-due for his rebirth. And the sand started to become glass.

It wouldn't be able to take much longer. It wasn't meant for this type of enviroment. That it had lasted so long was a suprise. If it made it out, it vowed to change something. Though it was not entirely sure what that 'something' would be.

(The 'girl' shall be ignored for a little while, as there isn't much to say about what she is doing.)

Even the sandstorm couldn't prevent Chi from enjoying his death. It happened only once every two weeks sadly. And considering his contant death by fire, it wasn't as bad as other would think. After all, if you drowned every day, only to get up the next with no problem, you kind of wouldn't care anymore. Heck, the death might even become tedious.

The wind began to slow as it hovered in it's cage. This had not been a good day for it. All the pain, all the suffering, and it still was trapped? It just wasn't right. It should have been out a long time ago.

The only problem was, as Chi burned, his ashes were scattered. He couldn't even comprehend what might happen. He didn't even care, too busy thinking about his revival. Once he came back, he would feel great. He might even decide to stick with the girl.

It was extremely close to throwing a tantrum. It would get everything back for its' horrors. After all, it was anyone elses fault it was still trapped. Nothing had let him out. And when he got out, he was definetely going to bite their ankles or something.

Chi's revival was going to be a bit of a puzzle. In most cases, the ashes would have stayed together. And out from the mound, he would come. Now the ashes were sprinkled over the sands sparsely. Exactly how would it come back?

The thing sneezed as it breathed in sand. Another indignity to itself? When was it finally going to will? This certainly was no fun. It almost wished the girl would return, to let it out. It wouldn't even nip at her.

Well, one would think the area with the most might drag him back to the lving. Not that he could care, being dead and all. The ashed seemed pretty evenly spaced though. And around them were a few  shards of glass that had been sand. Actually, it seemed like one of those things has ashes in them.

It wanted to cry, and did so. It hated this, this odd fate. It would be trapped forever. The girl, the bird, both had left it. And now it missed them.

The crystallized vessel almost seemed to glow. Though that may have simply been due to the sunlight upon it. Then a slight quivering, which might have been wind. Chi was going to be reborn. It didn't matter he was going to be trapped in glass.

It refused to wait any longer. Waiting was what had gotten it into the situation in the first place. It prepared to ram the door once more. The thing backed up as far as it could. Then it rushed at the door, hoping it would finally giveaway.

It smashed free, quite suprised. Had it done that? Rather than give it anymore thought, the Tainted wandered about outside. And stepped on a piece of glass, which broke. It jumped into the air, staring down at the thing it broke.

Ah, so it all worked out in the end. The bird now had the space to revive. Or at least not come back in glass. That would have been exceeding painful. The ashes began to smoke, and a small peep came from the pile.

It watched the pile of ashes as a tiny head poked out. No, was that the same bird? No, it was sure that couldn't be right. Although it did look quite similar. The Nemuwit floated closer, so it could see.

Chi hadn't felt so good since two weeks ago. He was completely rejuvenated. He even felt as if he could take the floating monster down. Wait, the floating monster was back? He tried to duck back down under the ashes.
