No, he wasn't getting away from it that easily. It lowered itself until it was a mere inch above the ashes. Then it reached out with one small paw, and brushed some of it away. It wasn't interested in hurting the other. Maybe play with him a bit, but that was about it.
It was so close Chi almost tried to run. But that thing would no doubt just follow him. And then he would be dinner. He tried to dig through the sand for more protection. The monster would eventually get bored and leave, right?

No, it really would never get bored. It was already too bored to leave him alone.The Tainted almost giggled as it zoomed past the pile, it's tail brushing more ash free. Now it could see him. It tapped the head gently, then seemed to leap back.

I nots hurt cha. Whya scared? it asked the bird, then opened its eyes wide. How had it done that? Well, that probably didn't matter. It was more interested in calming down the birdy.

As it stared, Chi froze. It had spoken in his head, so could it mind read? He was practically dead meat if it could. Then it would eat him. Even if he flew, so could it.
It was annoyed now. Ya no wanna fine'er? it asked. That would be sad then. A duo wasn't nearely as much fun as a trio. It took a step towards Chi, head tilted.

It had read his mind! Chi's eyes widened, and he hopped back. There had to be a way not to be eaten. But if the monster could read minds, he couldn't. It would know what he planned.
It noticed the rising temperatures, and turned its' back to Chi. Where had the water gone? That had to be it, the dampness in the sand. He jumped to it and began to dig. Yay for water and coolness, he thought.

Water sprung out as it dug. After making a small pool, it laid in it. That was abosolutely wonderful, wasn't it? It now could stay cool. And then it could look for the third.

It was pretty sure it had never had a name before. so it would have to take really good care of it. The Nemuwit wouldn't want to lose it. Especially after having done so much work to get one.
