“And why are your sisters holding you back? Unless they are whelps or whelping…they should need no extra protection. And unless they view you as a pack leader—you have no reason to offer your protection. Step up and make something of yourself; don’t wallow.” Silver chided, seeming a little irritated by the talk of siblings. Then her focus was completely lost on his other words. Her challenge had been issued—his response to it was all she awaited.

Her smile spread slowly. Ah, accepted. This would be interesting—testing a game the youngster had never played. How interesting. “Your move first.”

Her body was held low to the ground, her legs held at angles to the side and her paws splayed across the sand. She was ready—all he needed to do was move.

"My sisters, they're in need of no protection...but restraint is a better word." He nodded at this fact, it was true but he hadn't given her the exact reason why he had to stay near Belle and Poppi. "You're right though. I feel helpless; not knowing anything isn't in my vocabulary." He grinned. "But apparently I forgot traveling or meeting people in my dictionary, so how could I possibly look it up for a reference?" Jour paused. "Sorry for all the dictionary analogies..." He looked back up at the sun for a long moment then flashed a wolf-y grin at her, "You're on!" Quickly appraising her position, he centered himself between her and the sun. His pelt glimmered slightly in the sun and he felt warmed and powerful. Squaring his shoulders, but still lowering his body into a pounce his mind worked quickly. What would she not expect, what would she not expect? He chanted in his thoughts. His eyes in tiny slits, they flickered to every aspect of her body and position. I don't know! Closing his eyes for a moment he tried to picture anything he had read about fighting. Eyes flicking open, and a flash of newly required knowledge showed in them. He straightened up just a tiny bit. His posture was thoughtful, but as quick as a whip he lashed out, his speed blowing the sand in a different direction. He pounced only in the air momentarily. Paws extending into the air where she waited, he made a split second decision. He rolled in the air and landed next to her, going for the surprise technique. Just like running in a forest he leapt over her like she was a log, again with blinding speed. Then he began to circle around her back. He jumped again this time aiming for her vulnerable area.

Silver watched as he darted through the sand—clouds of the stuff began billowing into the air around them. Squinting to protect her eyes—she faded left as he….landed beside her? Growling as playfully as she could, she when to dive at him but he was quicker and over her in a second. She whirled around, now in a dizzying circle trying to keep her eyes on him.

She was scolding herself inside. You’re panicking! It’s just a kid playing around…focus. Focus!

It fell on deaf ears. There was a connection of both body and sand. Her face contorted into one of absolute disgust with herself as she opened her eyes fully. Her back was on the sand. The boy’s was not. She….had….

“No….” She breathed, staring Jour down in disbelief and something akin to madness. She pawed at him to move away, her facial muscles twitching with more real snarls. “This….this can’t happen.”

His hit was a bulls-eye! Gotcha! She wasn't expecting that, he could tell. Jour smiled hugely, I can tell she's a hard one to beat but, seriously?! Have I found my 'game'? He pondered that for a moment then quickly got off her. "Sorry, did I take you by surprise?" He smirked, "I guess I've found my game." The sun was hotter now that he was all worked up, but his thick pelt, oddly enough, kept him cool. He stared up into the sun and sighed. "That was fun!" He gushed for a few seconds. Sidestepping on the hot sand he chuckled, "Do you want to go again Silver? Or do you have to leave?" A torrent of dust and sand whirled up to his face, shielding his view. He stiffened as the wind blew the sediments around him. His golden eyes searched the area around him.

As he moved, Silv leapt up to her feet—fur bristled and looking slightly matted from the sand now clinging to it. There was irritation seething from her face, anger resting heavily on her mind. That brat! That little whelp of a…

She sighed quite crossly, shaking herself harshly before looking to Jour. Look at him there—looking around without a care in the world. Like nothing had just happened. Oh, he had no idea what had really just happened. He might as well call a jury to his side now—a restraining order might be what his future held.

“No, I’m going. Call it pride…but I’m not able to look at your face right now.” She growled lowly, more in frustration than anger. “But we will meet again—have no doubts about that. When I call you, I expect you to be ready for a rematch on my terms and the terrain of my choosing. I lose to no one easily.”

With a flick of her tail she turned—not really waiting for much of a response. It hadn’t been a question, after all. It was a flat out demand. One which Silverstreak was already plotting in her head…

He shook his pelt out for a moment, and then looked back at her. Her eyes where flashing with emotion, anger? Loathing? Maybe even further down...fear? His forehead creased, no not fear. "Hmm, okay then." He mumbled, "Trust me, you're on." With one last smile he turned and leapt down the dune, the sand sliding with him as he rushed to the safety of home. The sun still beat on his back and he began to grin more and more widely as the wind and sand smashed into his muscular body. He felt something truly was learned, maybe it was about himself, or the mysterious female that outright challenged him in this barren place, or perhaps it was that no one's that same. Nodding slightly he turned to look back at the female, but she was gone already with the wind.
