City Dog (Private, Amellina and I)

Valentine, Female Dalma

Cities were wonderful places. So full of people and smells and sounds and life! But also a few two many cars. The Dalma had a huge problem with cars. But if she stayed away from the roads, they wouldn't hurt her.
Valentine lifted her nose to the smell coming from inside some bakery, tails wagging. A nice, fresh scent wafted from the place. Nice and warm on this winter day.
Turning again, she trotted down the side walk, avoiding the feet of humans and larger creatures, and accepting petting from what young kids would give it.
Yes, she could live as a city dog. She was never the outdoorsy type, though was very happy with where she lived and who she lived with. But so many people! So much to see and smell and hear! This was an odd paradise for the puppy, but a paradise none the less.
You may call, you may call
But the little black cats won't hear you.
The little black cats are maddened
By the bright green light of the moon;
They are whirling and running and hiding,
They are wild who were once so confiding,
They are crazed when the moon is riding
You will not catch the kittens soon.
They care not for saucers of milk,
They think not of pillows of silk;
Your softest, crooningest call
Is less than the buzzing of flies.
They are seeing more than you see,
They are hearing more than you hear,
And out of the darkness they peer.
With a goblin light in their eyes!

Image Voltage Sahound

Kaiya stood, paws apart, in a defnsive stance. A growl shot through the dark alleyway, making her fur stand on end. If only someone would help her. The dark animal flitted through the darkness, as Kaiya still didn't know what it was. She decided to make a break for it, taking a deep breath a shooting out of the puddle-filled alleyway, screaming for help. The dark animal ran toward her, and Kaiya broke into daylight.

Hard as hard as it can be
Holding on to what we believe
Accepting fact and realities
In the darkness of our soul
Strength is what we need
Hard to receive or to hold on
Waiting to disappear
In the ocean of your dreams
No matter how hard we try
It will always hunt us
You'll know that your dream is over
And your strength you will take with you
Achieving what you want and living free forever

Valentine flicked her heavy ears. Was something approaching? That was what it sounded like. The happy Dalma turned to the sound, tails wagging. It appeared to be another canine, but it was hard to tell with just the blur of movement. And voltage breed, too? They were normally friendly.
"Hi!" The Dalma said before the other got time to stop. "What brings you here?"

Kaiya hears a canine voice squeak, and screeched to a stop. "AHHHH! I need someone to help me!!! There's this thing... it's chasing me... it has big teeth and a dark tail... tuffed fur and... aw geez, another one of those?" she turned, seeing a small kid's balloon float off into the sky.  "Anyway, I'm Kaiya... I live here, always have... I don't specifically love it, but... there's no place like home, y'know? Sorry I didn't catch your name...?"

The creature turned out to be a voltage sahound, Valentine found when it skid to a stop. Almost instantly the stranger burst into a contiuous string of speach, most of which going over the Dalma's head. Help? A dark tali? Huh?
Slowing down after watching something in the sky, the stranger introduced herself and claimed to live there. "Kaiya, huh?" Valentine answered, remembering to add the wag to her tail for such greetings. "I'm Valentine. How could you not like living here? Its beautiful! And it is a holy city after all. And whats all this about a evil tali or what ever?" Valentine tilted her head at the end, signalling her confusion to the sahound, who was already considered a friend in the care-free pup's eyes.

"I never said it was a tali, did I? Oh, well, there goes my memory." Kaiya giggled. "I'm just not a people-person... more of an animal person..." Kaiya explained, side-glancing at something. "That's a cool name... Valentine... wadda people say when they do  Valentine's day? A valentine for a valentine?" her voice suddenly cut off, and she twisted around quickly. She chased her tail until her tongue stuck out, panting. "Fooie. I hate being tired..."

The Dalma ignored the sahounds joking question and tilted her head at the stranger's odd behavior. Surely no one at the Meadow where she lived was so... random. Yes, that was the word. Random.
Shaking off the confusion and setting on 'thats just what kinda person she is,' She settled on returning to a previous conversation that she didn't seem to be part of anyways. "I'm named Valentine 'cause of my nose!" It was true, that was a possible namesake if not the only one. Her wet, black dalma nose was oddly shaped, looking more like a rounded heart than a triangle.

Kaiya glanced at the Dalma's dark nose, which indeed was shaped like a heart. "Well, I'm named Kaiya for... for... I have no idea." she sighed. Her tail drooped. "Actually, I didn't even get that name from my parents, or owner... I have no idea why that's my name... huh!" Kaiya studied the Dalma carefully. "I like your bow." she wagged her tail vigorously. "So why did you ever come to the city?"

Didn't get her name from her parents or her owner? How odd. Surely someone must've given her the name. She hadn't thought it was in sahound culture to be self namers. Ah, but it didn't affect her.
The sahound spoke on, complimenting the Dalma's ribbon and asking why she came.
"Uh... Thanks." Valentine said to the compliment, "Yeah... I came 'cause I am a people person and I wanted to see people. So many nice kids who'll give you petting here." The dalma's tail wagged lightly at the thought, and she opened her mouth to a pant. "But there are too many cars here. I've come to dislike cars.."

Kaiya cocked her head as Valentine spoke. "You actually like the kids who come around and pet you? They hate me for some reason... maybe the sparks flying off my back and the shocks when they pet me have something to do with it?" Kaiya blinked dramatically. She tried to turn her head to see her back, but she couldn't. She rolled her eyes as her tail landed in front of her, still frizzed up by the scare. "Stupid balloon."

"Yeah" Valentine laughed. "The 'tricity probably doesn't help. And maybe you don't let your self stare at them cute enough. I'm sure a few find it fun when their hair stands on end. 'Specially little boys. Trust me."
Half 'cause the kids were there and half to show her new friend what she meant, she ran over to a group of human youngsters and wiggled between two of them, looking for attention. The girls instantly squealed and hugged the adourable dalma, and a slighty older boy who was with them, probably a brother stuck with the baby-sitting duties, even scrached her ears a bit.

As Valentine got scratched behind the ears, Kaiya sighed. She rolled her eyes and gamboled over to the children, scooting the Dalma out of the way. The boy's eyes instantly lit up, but the girls inched away, their faces contorted into ugly expressions. Kaiya sighed, and ran between the boys legs as the Dalma had done. He scratched her behind the ears, but quickly pulled away, and slapped his finger in his mouth. "OWIE!" he cried. Kaiya sighed heavily, and stumbled back to where she was before. "See!" she cried out, slapping a paw to her forhead. "AW, who needs humans." she drew out the sentence. "I like four legs, not two!"

Valentine made a low sound, something between a growl and a huff. A canide equivilent to rolling her eyes. But then some hint of memory, a random fact she had heard once and tucked away in her brain never to be found again, resurfaced. "You know what?" The Dalma said, turning to face the sahound and sitting, "Most volts don't give off more than a static charge, not a full on shock 'less its on purpose. Or so I heard. Judging by that boy's reaction, yours seems quite stronger than that. I wonder why?"

"Yeah, maybe he's just a wimp." Kaiya groaned. She sat up, glaring at Valentine, "Are you accusing me of trying to shock that kid? I'm not that mean!" She hopped up, and ran over to the little boy. She sat at his feet, whimpering loudly, as he glanced down at her. He looked disgusted, which really hurt her feelings. She pawed at him, and he jumped, running in the opposite direction. Kaiya laughed, "You know what? Maybe I'm just sassy!" she chuckled.

The loud whimpering on the sahound's part was pretty pathetic, but the kid's reaction was even more so. " Didn't mean you tried to shock him." The Dalma explained after Kaiya mentioned being a sass. "I just think it seems like your electricity is stronger than the average. Thats what I found odd."
She flicked a tail in a way equivalent of a shrug and started trotting down the side walk again, wagging her tails and sniffing the air as restaurants, buchers, and bakeries were passed. Occassionally she'd glance back, hoping her new friend was still following.
