Return to Aldrect, the Holy City

Taking the Family Sightseeing [Done]

Postby SkyWolf11 » 05/07/2010 9:38 AM

Many people of all different backgrounds, looks, and shapes and sizes filled the streets of
Aldrect this day.  Being such a place, and being so small at that, it was a chore just to make it 3 steps forward without being trampled into the pavement!  Weaving carefully, yet quickly, through the sea of legs, a shimmering silver Kuhna padded along with a small faintly green kit sticking close to him.

"Stay close, Nuala." the new father warned his baby girl.  The tiny kit, just old enough to begin showing the beautiful markings of her Minty species, smiled at her father and giggled playfully.  "I will, Daddy!"

A few more dodging steps and some quick turns and sign-reading later and the father-daughter pair finally made it to their destination, the beautifully crafted marble fountain that stood so elegantly in the center of the city.  Not only was it the main thing they had hoped to see here, but it was also the meeting point for them.  Today they, meaning Silva, Mirabella, and their two kits, had decided to get out and about and do a little sightseeing.  Silva and Nuala walked over to the fountain and claimed a seat on a small bench nearby.  He looked up at the fountain in awe, his eyes glistening with excitement as he watched the shimmering waters fall.  He fought the urge to flatout jump in and swim around if only to set a good example for Nuala.

"Isn't it beautiful?"  Nuala, who had been happily chasing a small roley-poley on the ground, quickly turned around and looked up at the fountain.  She tilted her head as she smiled, quite empty-mindedly and laughed.  "Yeah!"  She ran up and fought her way up onto a small ledge on the side and stared into the water.  She giggled at her wavy reflection and began pawing at it.  "Ah - uh, Nuala ... be careful!" he moved behind her, ready to catch her should she fall.  'I never thought being a father would be so ... worrisome!'

He placed a paw on her back to help steady her before he turned to scan for a familiar face.  "I wonder where your mother is?" he sighed, hoping she hadn't gotten herself lost in such a huge city.

A few blocks away walked Mirabella (Bella for short) and her tiny male Translucent kit.  The tiny yellow Cayetano was happily content just checking out everyone walking around him rather than the actual buildings or monuments.  "Mama, look!  That lady has a funny hat!" he giggled, his eyes drawn to a vibrant orange hat with odd feathers and colored bands.  Bella giggled and dipped down to nuzzel his neck lovingly.  "She does, doesn't she?" she laughed.

Keeping a steady pace forward, and well out of the crowds, the pair closed the gap between them and the fountain fairly quickly.  In a matter of minutes, they came upon the fountain. Cayetano had hitched a ride in his mother's mouth as he couldn't muster the stamina she had for all of the walking.  She had a tough time holding him by the scruff as he continuosly wiggled and squirmed as his attention was drawn by everyone they passed.

She spotted Silva and hurried over to him.  "No worries.  We've made it in one piece." she laughed in a muffled voice, observing the worried look on her mate's face.  She put Cayetano with his sister before she jumped onto the wooden bench and slumped with a sigh.  "Whoo!  So many people here today!  Maybe we should have choosen a less busy day." she mewed softly.  Her gaze drifted onto her two kits, who were now finding amusement in wrestling with each other.

Silva sighed in relief and greeted the rest of his family with a smile.  His guided his playing kits carefully to the ground with a gentle nudging from his paw then joined Bella on the bench.  As he settled down beside her, Nuala chased Cayetano under the bench where they continued to wrestle playfully away from the danger of being stepped on.

Silva shrugged.  "It's pretty much this busy all of the time."  Bella chuckled and leaned against him, purring softly.  Silva embraced her move and returned the affection.  He rested his chin on her head and let his eyes trail after the many odd persons here in town.  It was a bit of an lovely odd change for Silva; becoming a father and having that bond with Bella seemed to really mellow him out some.  His usually nervous and jumpy attitude was roped in a bit now, save for when he was left to deal with the endless energy and recklessness of his kids, then he was more of his old self - all jumpy, nervous, and worrisome.

Suddenly, Nuala shot out from under the bench laughing, then began jumping up and down, trying to get her mother's attention.  "Momma Momma!  Play tag with us!"  Cayetano soon joined his sister with: "Yeah Momma!  Play tag with us!  Play tag with us!"  Bella seemed to snap into her 'child mode' and jerked up, startling Silva into scooting back a bit from her.  "Errr! I'm gonna get'cha!  Rawrrr!" she laughed with a soft growl.  The two kits squeaked happily and took off around the fountain.  Bella jumped down and gave chase, though not running full speed as to let them have more freedom.

Silva raised up with a happy sigh and watched the trio running circles around the fountain.  That was usually how it ended up.  Bella, being the more energetic and childlike much like kits, was constantly engaging in little kiddy games with the young ones.  And Silva was left to be the overseer; keeping an ever so watchful eye on them all.  Bella hadn't changed much after having kits, though Silva was sort of thrown into 'caution/parental concern' mode ever since.  It wasn't that it bothered him much, oh no... It was just that he wished he could let his worrisome ways about them all rest for a while so he could join them in being rambunctious.

Bella slowed to a giggly stop, letting the kits barrel into her and push her to the ground.  After a few minutes of all of them laughing (and getting many weird stares from the human-humans walking by), she gently rolled out from underneath the two kits and sat up.  "Oh, alright now kiddies." she huffed, strangely out of breath for such a minimal amount of running.  "Whew!  Momma's ... tired!" she laughed, her gaze drifting back up to Silva.

Silva smiled then shook his head.  It seemed he wasn't the only victim of parenthood.  Just as his attitude had morphed, Bella's trademark energy was a bit on the drained side.  He chuckled a bit.  'Surely we'll be back to our old selves as soon as we can trust the young ones to stay out of trouble.  Eh?'  'Ha, yeah.  I hope you're right, hun.' they conversed secretly with their thoughts.  Another advantage discovered through their newly formed bond.  Though they lacked the much needed link with their childrens' thoughts.  It would prove ever so helpful if they could make that connection, though it was somewhat up to the kits' abilities once they matured.

Nuala pulled her brother to the side with a devious grin.  "Hey Tano!" she mewed in a raspy whisper.  Tano was the name she often used for her brother as she became rather tongue-tied trying to pronounce his full name.  Cayetano looked curiously at his sister.  "What?" "I dare you to jump into the fowntain.", her pronunciation sounding a bit babyish as she fought with the last word.  Cayetano looked up the fountain then looked back at his sister with wide, surprised eyes.  He frantically shook his head no and tried to back away.  "No! No no no!  We'll get in trouble!" he whined pitifully, shifting fearful eyes onto his parents a few feet away.

Already their personalities were shining through.  And already Nuala was starting on an adventerous streak, while Cayetano prefered to stay out of trouble's paths.

As Silva and Bella cuddled up together back on the bench, the kits sneaked closer to the fountain.  Well, Cayetano was more of the un-reluctant party in the matter ... as Nuala was shoving him from behind, with quite the devious smile plastered upon her face.  "Oh come on, Tano!  It won't kill ya!" she huffed, giving him another rough push near the fountain's edge.  Cayetano dug his claws futilely into the pavement with resistance.  "No no no no NO!  Stop it!" he cried.

Silva's ears twitched as he caught wind of Cayetano's cry and he quickly stood to attention.  This time, Bella was the one taken back as she almost fell off the bench from his sudden movements.  "What?  What is it?" she too perked up, looking around frantically.  Silva laid eyes on his kits with a tired sigh.  "Huuuhhhh ... it's our lovely daughter again plotting evil trickery upon our son." he joked with exasperated hand movements and facial expressions.

"Nualaaaaaa~  What do you think you're doing?" he sung out, causing Nuala to stop abruptly and duck down pitifully.  She knew she'd been caught.  She looked back slowly at her dad with sad eyes then looked at the ground.  "Sowwy daddy ..." she mewed cutely, hoping her charm would be enough to avert any punishment.  It worked, more or less, for Silva settled back down with a sly grin followed by Bella.  Bella laughed tiredly at their life now.  She was finally able to carry out life as a mother ... and it definitely had it's ups.  "Never thought I'd say this but .. kids will be kids, right?" she laughed again at how old that comment had made them sound.

Silva chuckled and nodded.  "I suppose."  Whilst the parents had averted their gaze, Nuala turned off the charm and huffed madly for being caught.  Cayetano scampered away from the fountain and stuck his tongue out at his sister.  "See I told you.~  Troublemaker."  Nuala huffed snottily and turned her nose up at him.  "Well, at least I'm not a party-pooper."

Cayetano glared at his sister and blew her a raspberry.  Nuala rolled her eyes and suddenly pounced at him.  "Gah!  Hey!-" "Rah!  Ha!"  Nuala flopped ontop of Cayetano and the two began play fighting.

As the two rolled about on the pavement, a low rumbling of thunder in the distance rang out.  The two stopped immediately with frightened squeaks and quickly scampered towards their parents.  Both Silva's and Bella's heads shot backwards as they turned their eyes to the darkened skies.  The clouds were dark and heavy with rain ... so much for the weather forcast of sunny skies, now huh?  Both stood and gently hopped from the bench.  Another low rumble sounded, though much louder than before.  The storm was upon them.  In a matter of seconds a downpour of rain fell from above and quickly drenched everything in it's reach.

"Ah!" Cayetano squealed and rushed to find shelter underneath his mother.  He didn't feel the same pleasure his parents had for the wetter weather.  In fact, he couldn't even stand a simple mist that floated about after a good rain.  It just made him feel ... icky.  However, Nuala had seemed to inherite those odd traits.  Whilst the rain fell in sheets around them, she happily pranced about in it, laughing happily at the cooling sensation it gave her.

Though many of the people out and about on the streets had different thoughts as they ran for cover.  Those who had came prepared with umbrellas merely continued on their way.  Silva closed his eyes lightly and took in the rain thankfully.  'Thank you gods of rain.'  Bella, on the other hand, found it a bit hendering.  She preferred the cold touch of snow to rain, though they were essentially the same in a way.  But she was picky in her preferences.  "Um Silva?  Might we not stand in the rain like statues?" she laughed lightly, shaking a bit to rid her pelt of the collected rain.

Silva snapped from his thoughts and glanced over at her.  He blinked then smiled with a nod of understanding.  "Yeah, I suppose we shouldn't." he sighed quietly in disappointment but quickly dismissed it and decided it for the best.  "Maybe that's our cue to head back home..."  Bella nodded.  "Perhaps.  Don't worry though.  I'm sure we could always try another outting!  Preferably on a ... er ... more weather predictable day." she chuckled.

The two took their leisurely time as they padded down the slick sidewalk.  Cayetano stuck to his mother's underbelly like superglue, fearing the rain.  And though a bit disgruntled at having to cut their trip short, he would rather be at home nice and dry.  Nuala hesitantly followed after them, wanting to stay longer and play in the rain.  But her father's questioning glance kept her in line...  What a way to start .. and end a family trip.  Thanks a lot rain ...
