Roux did think for just a minute. Yes, there was a chance that this could all work…that he could help bring two people together against all odds and be a hero in the background for once in his life. But that was a slim chance he wasn’t sure he wanted to take. “Devi this doesn’t feel right. That’s a lot of money…”

“And Xander is coming into fame, his contract alone will provide those funds. If he wants Ianthe he needs a grand gesture. Just like Ianthe needs a grand makeover.~” Standing up and walking towards her robe, Roux again looked down to his toes in the water.

“I don’t think I can do this.”

Devi paused in her seaweed garb and looked back at Roux. Putting on her robe she walked back over to the tub her friend was in and put her hand on the side. “Roux, this would mean so much to me if you would help. Even if Xander doesn’t want to get the robot…he needs to be warmed up. Make sure Ianthe is on his mind so when they meet there will be absolute fireworks.”

Roux slowly looked up at her.

“Roux, you’re the only one I trust to ask for this favor. Please please?”

With a sigh Roux gave in. “Alright Devi…I will do it. But not for you. For Xander and Ianthe…and maybe those kids who will call me Uncle.” He gave a sheepish smile as he grabbed for his own robe just outside his bath.

Devi squealed and gave a little hop, and before Roux could fully pull his robe on she tackled him in a hug. “Oh Roux, you are the best friend ever!.” ikewise, Roux went from ghost white to blood red instantly.

Roux stayed very still for a moment, then carefully tapped Devi on the shoulder. “This is…really awkward. Can you be…less grateful?” The young woman instantly released him with a laugh.

“Oh, don’t be so silly Roux! It’s just the spa, how long have we been doing this?”

“A while, I guess.”

“Then you have seen me enough, stop being so sensitive!”

Still flustered, roux pulled his robe tighter to him and just nodded. I-I know. We should go—that convention isn’t far away, right?”

“Oh, of course!” Devi said before grabbing his arm and ushering the both of them down towards their separate dressing rooms.

Roux gave a shaky smile as he let go of Devi’s arm and went back into his own dressing room. His stomach was in knots, his heart pounding, and he had a splitting headache. He couldn’t let her down…she was his only friend. But how? How was he going to just waltz up to Xander and remind him that he had once loved some girl here? Much less buy some robot for her to show his affection…

Devi, however, was very much free of these feelings. As she whisked herself back into her dressing room she was next to giddy with glee. Oh, everything was going to go so perfectly! First reunite Xander and Ianthe…then have some of her work end up in Xander’s comics…and then watch her own fame skyrocket thanks to his fans. Oh, it was all going to be so marvelous!
