She felt a strong hand clamp around her shoulder, guiding her roughly to a dip in the ground. Rhyket lied there, looking mildly amused. “Hello my wife, it is nice to see you again.” He growled, forcing her to sit in his lap. “It sure has been a long time.” He chuckled, it was a sickening sound. “Oh boy will you be in a lot of trouble when we get home; it’s almost too exciting for me to have to wait.” He said shaking his head, disappointed.

[Sarah]

“You know, I was waiting for you in the church, and when you didn’t arrive I was just heart broken.” He said sarcasm dripped heavily through his words. “It was quite a show I made for those… commoners.” Disgust plain on his face. -Yeah, because they don't know who you are, not like I do.- Vella kept silent, this was no time to comment. She knew what was good for her and she wasn’t particularly in the mood to get beat.

[Sarah]

“Speak woman, you must have something you would like to say.” Rhyket yell whispered. Vella flinched, “please don’t make me go back.” She whispered defeat heavy in her voice. A smirk lit the man’s face. “Come here you, let’s get some rest.” He said pulling Vella close to him, encompassing her with his warm scent.

[Sarah]

Vella was very confused, he hadn’t acted like this to her since they had first met. She wasn’t complaining, but it felt odd. He should hate her, and be trying to kill her. Shouldn’t he? Was he? Still, she rested her head on his chest, allowing the pattern of his breathing lull her to sleep. After years of torment and broken dreams she was at the beginning of finding answers, yet somehow she had a feeling she would never find them.

Groggily Kat woke up, the sun was shining just over the horizon and the sky was painted in a pale pink. She yawned and rubbed her eyes. She was a little stiff from sleeping on the ground but she stretched out a few times and she was better. She looked up to the tree and saw that Scarlet was gone. But when she looked around the place she had slept she saw that Vella and Rhyket were sleeping soundly nearby. At least Vella was, Rhyket was just staring at her, his eyes filled with a sort of softness. Kat smiled and turned around, not wanting to disturb the two.

She headed towards the tuskow who were still tied safely to the tree. “Good morning.” She said happily, patting each one. She placed some carrots on the ground and allowed them some room to eat. Yawning again Kat covered her mouth and stretched, throwing her other hand behind her back, trying to get her bones to loosen up. She wasn’t as tiered as before, but she could do with a few more hours of sleep in a warm bed.  The fog had cleared, and she could see the vast plain was fast approaching, the wide fields of rolling hills stretched out before her.  She stuck her tongue out annoyed. She did not want to travel in open air under the hot sun all day.

“How was your night?” rhyket’s deep voice sounded behind her. She whirled around, coming face to face with the angel. “Oh goodness, you frightened me.” Kat said laughing. Rhyket shot her a grin and turned back to Vella who was trailing just behind him. “How about you my dear?” he asked addressing the fragile looking woman.

[Sarah]

Completely the opposite Vella that Kat knew just a few days ago. “Warm.” Vella said softly blushing a little. “Lucky.” Kat teased trying to lighten the mood. Rhyket laughed a little and then moved on to check out the kart. While they passed her Vella shot her a quick smile and rolled her eyes. Now that was the Vella that Kat was used to. Vella felt a little better now, knowing that the real Vella was still with them.

Scarlet came back to the little area they had stopped at. Everyone was awake, and looked eager to set off again. Everyone but Vella, though she hadn’t been acting like her normal self so she didn’t really count. “Ready to go?” she asked, grabbing the map from the kart. “Unfortunately there is no way to get around the vast plain, but it shouldn’t take too long to get through there.” shooting an apologetic look at Kat. Who just shrugged, knowing she would have to just put up with it.

Kat and Vella got into the kart, sitting across from each other. Rhyket untied the tuskow from the tree, and carefully knotted the leather strips back into place, handing Scarlet the ends so she could steer. Scarlet climbed into the front bench and waited for Rhyket to get into the kart. He sat close to Vella, putting his arm over her shoulders.  “off we go.” Scarlet mumbled turning the tuskow as they started walking down the dirt pathway again.
