Return to Aldrect, the Holy City

They Follow (Kreepy & I)

Postby Sarah » 10/20/2016 4:48 PM

Two months she had been in the blindingly white city. Two months of absolutely nothing. No sign of her target, no word from her master, not even a date with the cute barista that she had been visiting.

Azuriel had been told to head to Aldrect and wait. She'd gotten to her new apartment easily enough, and she'd gotten a good hold on the city and its layout. No word ever came to her about what exactly she was meant to do in the city. After a while she got into a rhythm of working. Before she left she was given a book filled with names, a reaper's book of sorts, but not as magical or official. When she had settled into the city she began to take names off the list. It was the most she figured she could do with what she had.

Easily bored of the same routine Azuriel had tried to be social. There was a cafe near her house that she frequented. She'd become smitten with the barista that worked in the morning, and had come to know some of the regulars. It was nice to have others to talk with, even if she had to tell them lies about herself. They knew her as a solitary soul that worked in an office building downtown.

After a rough night of collecting only a single soul Azuriel was on her way to the cafe. She brushed off her paranoia of being followed. The feeling had popped up weeks ago, but she knew it was just because she had been out of contact with her master for far too long.

"I can handle this just. Damn. Fine. Go home." Kaiser growled over his cappuccino, glaring daggers at the woman opposite. He was mad, oh yes. He hadn't asked for this... intrusion, let alone from one of the most obvious, showy members of the organisation. How the hell was he supposed to be incognito with this woman around. He'd put so much time into his appearance, opting for a dull brown jacket, baggy jeans and he'd let his hair and beard grow out a little and no one had given him a second glance and then this annoyance had come along.

"If that was the case, then why was I assigned to work with you, huh?" The demon picked up a menu and raised it up high enough to cover her face. Not that it would have done anything really. The woman had pink eyes that she hadn't bothered to cover up with contacts and her bright red hair was styled in a punkish undercut. Kaiser's dishevelled look was contrasted with her neat, plain black leather jacket layered over a white shirt and dark skinny jeans.

"Because, I don't know. Lilith has it out for me. Because you have it out for me?" The werewolf hissed back. "It doesn't make sense why our IT guy is in charge of a critical mission. What did you, sleep with Lilith to get some time out in the field or something?"

"Hah, you think I'd need to go that far to get something I wanted? I'll have you know I'm her second-in-command you idiot, plus I've been the one feeding you intel. How did we know to be at this cafe? It wasn't luck, the security cams told me to be here." Anniki replied, eyebrow quirked in amusement. Kaiser shifted uncomfortably in his seat but made no comment. "I'm just here for monitoring the situation. This is something we've never dealt with and you're going to need someone who can pull any sort of myth or legend relating to what they are in a matter of seconds." In addition to being able to shift into a big obnoxiously bright, spiny lizard on cue, the demon was also a technopath and communicating mentally with technology made her one of the most useful and versatile members of the organisation. Unfortunately for the most part, she was stuck behind a desk and alternating between attempted hacks on the rival government organisation and monitoring massive amounts of data. "So, tell me the plan dog-breath."

"We wait. If you're right, then our friend comes in gets her order. Maybe she notices us, maybe she doesn't. It's no big deal. We wait til she leaves, approach her after." Kaiser stated nonchalantly, not allowing himself to be taunted by the demon. He wouldn't give her that pleasure. And he was sure that they'd be noticed. The demon wasn't exactly inconspicuous with that hair cut.

Stare in the darkness
Are you scared? Are you free?
I can be fair or a monster
Tell me now, which one do you need?

I can feel teeth tear into me
Rip me to pieces, rock me to sleep
I can feel eyes staring at me
Getting uneasy, ready to feed
I can feel teeth

Azuriel let out a soft sigh. She was almost to the cafe now, but something was troubling her. Why wasn't anyone telling her what to do? The absence of direction was absolutely infuriating. To get rid of her anxiety she flexed her powers. If this whole living on her own thing was going to work then she needed to control herself better. With no one to spar with it was difficult for her to let her bad energies out. They weren't anything especially special; her reaper form and scythe were in her reach, but on another plane. The plane was so close to Evelon's, and all other planes with life, that she could be in it and drag whatever soul she needed into it as well. They would be none the wiser as the plane took on the exact look of her victims reality, except when they saw her.

Reaper forms were already unsettling, being actual skin and bones with flowing robes or capes, and glowing eyes. Azuriel's form was slightly different. Along with the skeletal and 'Grim Reaper' look, she had great blue wings and her cloak looked to be made of the stars.

Azuriel let go of her power as she entered the coffee shop. A few regulars took up the majority of the tables, but there were strangers as well. It wasn't uncommon, but every time they piqued her interest. What were their stories? Where had they come from? Why had they chosen this place of them all to enjoy the morning?

Quietly she ordered a coffee and sat down near two very opposite looking people. She had almost wanted to sit with them, but at the last second decided against it, what if they were on a date? Normally she would sit with a group and chat, but she somehow ended up alone.

((Frig. I keep going to reply and then. FFF. I'M SO SORRY. It's a little short, but hopefully you can work with it))

Kaiser jerked his head over at the new arrival the moment the woman turned her back to order. Anniki tipped her head to one side and regarded the woman. She seemed relatively normal. Not that it meant anything. Kaiser, though he looked like a hobo, was relatively normal when unturned and even she could go to lengths to hide her hair and eyes, with dye and contacts.

'Hrm. She's noticed us.' Anniki had to make sure her eyes weren't wandering back to her mark, something that was very hard to do when she felt like she was being watched. Did she have a sense maybe? Or was it just curiousity? She wasn't going to get anywhere just guessing, but two people sitting in silence kinda looked a little odd, right?

"SO. Kai." Anniki blurted out, leaning across the table. The werewolf scowled and pulled his coffee away just in case the demon accidentally (or deliberately, you can't trust those things) tipped it down his front. "C'mon, what's the guide say? What sort of touristy things are we doing tomorrow?"

"I uh?" Admittedly, Kaiser wasn't used to being thrown off guard like that, so he fumbled around for a second, before fishing out his phone. "Dunno Nikki, there's a whole bunch of things. I thought that was something you were handling?" he growled, quirking an eyebrow at the woman.

(S'all good friend <3)

In the moment of silence Azuriel took a sip of her coffee and glanced outside. It was looking like it was going to be a nice day. Perhaps she would take a walk in the park or something. No, she needed to focus. For now her task was to fit in, and finish the damn book. It wasn't very big, but that didn't mean there weren't at least a hundred names written. Certainly her master had pulled names from other reaper's books. Was he trying to teach her to work on her own? There was a selfish moment where Azuriel felt like throwing her to the wolves was not entirely fair.

There were four pages of names in the little leather-bound notebook. The rest was blank, but recently she had been taking notes in the pages. It was useful for storing information about her targets. Having access to the other-plane made it easier for her to take out people, but there was a level of stealth as well. She couldn't just start killing and expect to keep the normalcy of city life. Taking notes, and observing those she was meant to kill meant she could be more subtle.

Near her the two opposite looking people began talking about where they might go in the city. There was quite a bit to do, although Azuriel did not know all of the popular places. It was a holy city, and the cathedrals she had seen were grand and beautiful and welcoming.

... Just like that her coffee was gone, and it was time for her to go. Azuriel got up with a soft sigh and headed for the door. Before she did she walked past the two tourists. "If you're looking for something to do I'd recommend the grand fountain in the center of the city, or if you've already seen that, there are a lot of interesting holy places that should be in the guide book of the city," she said with a smile.

With that done, she tossed her coffee in the garbage near the door and went on her way.
