Malissa didn't usually leave her hive, especially not for something like a festival. However, something seemed different about this one, maybe it was because it was more laid back. Or, it was just an excuse to get away for a bit and mingle with humanoids. She had to take on a human guise of course, she didn't want any unwanted attention for being a cryptid or any odd questions why a giant bipedal hornet woman was walking about. Keeping a low profile was just fine.

She had wandered around, mostly just taking quick glances at the stands here and there. Nothing really seemed appetizing, save for any humans she came across. If she really wanted to fit in, then she couldn't go around sucking the bone marrow out of unsuspecting people. No, she would need to buy something, maybe a kabob or some other meat on a stick. Malissa approached a stand selling sushi, the sight of it reminding her of her mate that said it was a tasty snack. Why not, she was feeling adventurous tonight.

Malissa had received her platter of sushi, a selection of their finest in sample form. She sniffed it, finding the smell of meat appetizing and wasted no time in trying the first kind. Well... it was interesting, not exactly something she would rave about, but it was satisfying enough that she would finish the platter while she walked around the festival grounds. Her daughter popped into her mind, would she eat this stuff? Elusa mostly ate decomposing bodies, so would raw fish be appealing to her? Speaking of, where did that unruly child go?

Honestly, the absence of her daughter was beginning to alarm her. Usually that troublesome brat was hiding out in one of her old haunts, and while she did go out of her way to check each one, she just thought she had been out and about. As time went on, she began to wonder if she had gotten herself into trouble. "Elusa..." the hornet muttered under her breath. Had her mate even seen her? No, he would have told her if he did.

She couldn't keep her mind focused on her daughter through the whole festival, if she did, then she couldn't have fun right? Besides, Elusa could take care of herself, she was a big girl. That and... she was a cryptid, as soon as she revealed her true self any would be attacker would run away in terror. If they decided to attack her, then they would be attacking nothing but coalesced shadow. Malissa smiled, walking further into the crowd. At least she could put her nerves at ease with such comforting thoughts.

To further take her mind of her maternal worries, she decided on ordering a kebab from one of the various street vendors. She made small talk with the vendor before taking back off into the crowd, eating along the way. Hmm maybe she could get used to human food, it wouldn't be the first time a cryptid deviated from its normal diet. Vincent was more than enough proof of that one. Her mind began to drift back to her daughter, maybe she had been trying other food too?

Then, a familiar face stood out among the crowd. Could it be?

Elusa had been at the festival for some time now, mostly trying to get more experience in life as a whole. Much to her parents dismay, she had purposefully hid from them so she couldn't be found. To further hide herself, she had cast a human illusion upon herself. Nothing too fancy or beautiful by human terms, just rather average looking. No one would bother her or flirt her up, as she knew human males were prone to do.

"Yeah, I want to try that stuff... um...kimchi?" Elusa asked the street vendor, her eyes widening as she was offered the sample of fermented vegetable dish. The smell is what attracted her towards the dish, sure they said it was a side-dish for their other product there, but the main product served little to no interest to her. She took another whiff of the food before digging in, finding the flavor pleasant, but nothing compared to the sweet taste of decomposing bodies.

Elusa looked up from her meal, hearing a very familiar voice call out to her. Dammit! Was that her mother? How did she find her amidst such a huge crowd? Wait... pheromones, she must have been drawn to her because of that. Elusa groaned, darting further into the crowd to try to lose her mother, who she knew was in hot pursuit. Damn, she just had to come from a family of insects didn't she!?

"Elusa! Get over here! Don't you dare run away from me again little lady!" Malissa called, moving her way through the crowd. Damn that unruly daughter, she was hiding for so long just to show up at a festival!?

Elusa slowed down into a slow walk, admitting defeat since she didn't want to get into anymore trouble. Last time she misbehaved this bad, she was stuck in her mother's hive for weeks. "Ughhh! What is it mom!? Can't a girl have some fun away from home once in awhile?"

Malissa grabbed her daughter's shoulder, pulling her aside to scold her. "You know it can be dangerous for a young girl like you, who knows who could grab you off the streets! You should at least either tell me where you are going to be, or at least take someone with you next time."

She was just being paranoid, but... her words did carry another meaning. Since they were among humans, her mother needed to convey her message in a different way in order to avoid suspicion. If she was translating her mom correctly, she just wanted to know where she was if she left one of her haunts, or if she was out feeding. She wasn't so worried about her being kidnapped, just worried about her disappearing for months at a time. Then again... she did say she took after her dad that way. "I understand mom, you are just worried."

Malissa's expression softened, not wanting to embrace her daughter just yet. "Well, since I found you, why don't we enjoy the festival together. Surely you have found something good to eat."

Elusa smiled, pointing at the kimchi stand. "Of course! I mean, I do have some help finding just what I want," she gave her a wink, slyly pointing towards a couple flies. They were always there to help her, after all, she was a fly herself.
